getting back in to 40k

Hi guys im getting back in to 40k after jst over a year out and im liking the look of having allies but not had the chance to look at in depth, so i thought id ask on here if i was going to do a allied army list how would i set it out

You should be more specific in what you are interested in methinks.

Well allies are like a can of worms. Some can be fun and propper, others can be downright cheesy.
Cool Ones:
SM&IG
Orks&IG
CSM&Daemons
GK&SOB

Cheesy Ones:
Tau&Eldar
SM&Tau
Eldar&DE
CSM&IG
Necrons (Anybody is cheesy with them!)

I was thinking of Orks & CSM but never thought of Orks & IG as im already a Ork player so how many HQ, troop an so choses do you get per allied force

Well it goes like so;
Under 2000pts, your primary detachment (Orks) you can include:
1-2 Hq
0-3 Elites
2-6 Troops
0-3 Fast Attack
0-3 Heavy Support
Over 2000, you can double that detachment size.
When you ally, you can take
1-2 Hq
0-2 Elites
1-4 Troops
0-2 Fast Attack
0-2 Heavy Support.
And if you didnt double your primary detachment at 2000pts, you can double your Allied detachment instead

So if i was doing a list under 2000pts my primary detachment would contain

1-2 Hq
0-3 Elites
2-6 Troops
0-3 Fast Attack
0-3 Heavy Support

so what would my allied detachment have to contain

Allies need at least 1 HQ and 1 Troops. Then you can go up to what Brainfreezer mentions in his post.

So iv fallen for csm as I've got some old models iv for kicking around iv got one more question so far as iv not had a chance to look at the new csm codex what are the upgrades weapons an so forth for csm troops

Weapons are your general flamer, melta, plasma and then you get heavy weapons which include H.bolter, multi-m,, p.cannon l.cannon and reaper autocannon (i think)
They can take Vets of the Long war which gives P.E Space Marines.
They can take marks of daemon gods which give different bonuses.

Ok thanks brainfreezer time to get working on a iron warriors themed force as my orks are speed freaks and it should balance it out well
