Empire Ogres!

original thread ↗

So nearly three years ago I started an Empire Ogres army, went to a tournament, lost and put them on the shelf in favour of some DoW. After 2,700 points of DoW and another lost tournament I'm now thoroughly sick of the sight of pikemen and single model infantry and have decided to go back to the old Ogres! I'm not too bothered about losing games but I'd like to at least put a very nice army out there! The benefit being that chances are in the new edition I can mix them together anyway for Empire/Ogre armies of mercenaries!

So with this in mind, I have painted a couple of the old ogres up to a new scheme. I'm still thinking of how to do their bases, I really need to do something impressive and eye catching without being generic!

A regular bull.

An irongut. He may lose his sword for another at some point.

I have also discovered that my workplace actually has a pewter casting machine and I happen to own a 3D milling machine! I think I'll be making some great weapon casts soon enough!
These look awesome! :) I always enjoy seeing a break from the norm, and Empire-themed Ogres is great to see! Looking forward to seeing more :)

If you don't mind me asking, what list were you running with the DoW? I have a good 5,000 or so points sitting in cases at home, but never field them :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Thanks! I've made quite alot of progress quickly because I did alot of the sculpting before for the bulls. It's the Ironguts that will take lots of time!

I ran something like this:

Empire Wizard Level 4 Shadow - Ward
General - AoMI
BSB, Protection
49 Spears (alacanti)
39 Spears (leopard)
28 Spears (leopard)
20 Crossbows (miragalino)
10 Knights (araby dogs)
5 Knights (Kislev)
3 Demi (converted Kislev)
Cannon (galloper)
Cannon (galloper)
Helblaster (dwarf gun)

It wasn't particularly effective because you seem to need a steam tank really. Or the pope on his pope mobile.
They are superb! How long is it taking to sculpt up each one? :)

That list looks fairly solid to me, but I do feel that an effective Empire list requires either a STank or PopeMobile these days, sadly... :)

Luckily I had already done all of these before so no time at all! Mostly I've just repainted and updated them with the better skill I have now.

Thanks for the kind words!

My list came second to last in a big tournament so I'd say that is probably fairly accurate! It can hold alot up but kill nothing.
hi mate, shameless plug-have a look at my gnoblog for some empire themed ideas as were building up a similar style army, feel free to copy any of the work. good luck with the build

Wow your guys are very green!

I'm dreading doing the giant. He already has facial hair but the puff and slash will be a task.

Update! Some fancy bases and four Ogres. Next up, another 4 and a banner!

First bit of work on the giant, new face and some slash and puff clothing. I need to replace the tree but I'm not sure how I'm going to do so yet!

The work so far, the shirt will eventually be white but stained because you know, giant!

Also! Looking forward to painting this beast!

The beginnings of the knight and his armour! I'm somewhat intimated by the idea of a helm..

Looks great so far! Can't wait to see the finished article; I really enjoy watching your sculpting for the clothes and extra gear :)

Their tears will be a perfect addition to the Butcher's cauldron.
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it! Some work on his helm. Probably needs something on top though!

Update!

The army so far and the rider for the Stonehorn.
