List concept legality question

original thread ↗

Hey all,

I'm considering putting together an allied Minotaurs/Carcharodons list, as the new codex space marines allows you to take two detachments from it as long as they're using different chapter tactics (Moloc and Tyberos grant their own unique chapter tactics, so this part is fine), specifically stating that you treat the two detachments as though they were from different codexes. Having said that, I'm not sure if I can legally run both Asterion Moloc and Tyberos in this list because of their "you can only have one Chapter Master in your army" rule (which predates 6th ed). Google searching has not led me to enlightenment, unfortunately, and it probably doesn't help that all of the FW Imperial Armour FAQs have been removed from their site.

Basically the question I'm asking here is: Would using Asterion Moloc as the Primary detachment HQ, with Tyberos as the allied detachment HQ, be a legal list?
As an allied detachment works as a completely separate part of your army then I'd say yes, but that's based on my opinion and has no factual evidence to back it up.

I think it's safe to run both of them. 'Army' is pretty much interchangeable with 'Detachment' nowadays.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.

Actions speak louder than words, unless your eating a mime of course.
In which case, I present to you draft 1 of the intended list:

Primary detachment, Minotaurs Chapter, 1298pts

HQ - Lord Asterion Moloc (235)

Troops -

Scout Squad, 4 Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher, Melta Bombs, Camo cloaks (89)
Scout Squad, 4 Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher, Melta Bombs, Camo cloaks (89)

Elites -
Terminator Assault Squad, TH/SS (225)
Sternguard Veteran Squad, 3 Combi-grav, 2 Combi-melta, Power Weapon, drop pod (220)

Fast Attack -

Stormtalon Gunship (110)

Heavy Support -

Devastator Squad, 4 Missile Launchers (130)
Stormraven Gunship, Multi-melta (200)

Allied Detachment - Carcharodons Chapter, 700pts

HQ - Tyberos, the Red Wake (190)

Troops - Terminator Assault Squad (200)

Fast Attack - Stormtalon Gunship (110)

Heavy Support - Stormraven Gunship, Multi-Melta (200)

I'm considering swapping out one of the Stormtalons for a Thunderfire Cannon, since they're kind of awesome now that they have Barrage. Having said that, four flyers is going to give pretty much any list a headache (except missileside spam, obviously), and that's before you get to the walking blenders occupying them. Thoughts?
3 Troops in 2000pts seems mighty small. You're not going to be claiming a lot of objectives with those squads, in fact, you've only got one that is really mobile (the termies). If you're moving to get objectives those sniper rifles aren't going to be all that great.

This is not a list that is intended to take objectives. The main idea here is to butcher the enemy wholesale, or at least wipe out their Troops to put them in the same position as me. Ideally the Scouts would infiltrate onto objectives, which I would place in useful positions, in or immediately next to cover, for them to cover large areas of the battlefield with their Sniper Rifles.
Is Tyberos an actual special character referenced somewhere?  I'm just wondering how you have assault Termies as your allies' troop choice.
He's in Imperial Armour 10, Page 177 iirc. Has a special rule called "The Red Brethren" which lets him take a unit of LC-Assault Termies as Troops.
