original thread ↗

Well since I am new here and returning to warhammer, I figured a new army and a new approach would be awesome.   I am doing something I never done before in warhammer building a army based entirely on being a fun theme and just trying to have a blast, in the past I have played in alot of tornaments and frankly that style of play simply drained me.   So 'ere we go with a new army, new approach and frankly It seems like alot more fun.

On the off chance your drunk or bored enough to read this, I apologize for my rambling posting style.

Thoughts first on the book -

WOW the Tyrant is a beast, He seems good enough to stand Gut to toe with anything thrown at him.   A friend who plays Chaos Mortals was none to happy to know soon the Ogres would be on the march and this is not a army his bully style of play can push around with ease.

On that note I changed the name of my Ogre tribe and the general story behind it,  I really liked the idea of a army of Ogre's from the Icespewer region, I like the idea of big shaggy paleskinned ogres and Yhettees.  So thats where it is going...oh plus knoblar pops ( frozen knoblars on a stick.  I am trying to use a list of names of either legendary giants and ogres and/or famous bullies for the army.

Well I will try and update this at least once a week, if only to keep track of my thoughts and my ideas for the army.

Keep it easy folks

Welcome to the Stronghold! :) I look forward to being able to follow the progress of this army...

The Tyrant can be pretty beast, but he really doesn't match up to most other Lord choices in other books. For fun and fluff reasons though, there really is no better choice :)

Hey Just Josh,

Thanks man, I hope it does not disappoint.  I dont care much if the tyrant isnt the best I must have faith in his gut lol.   But I know between the large amount of chaos players and dwarves in the area he will be hard put.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting note, I had to change up my buy list for the month as I happened upon a Harry the hammer 25th anniversary model unopened and I traded him to the manager at GW for two boxes of mournfang cav, which  really helped me out.

I have some questions in arming them. I like the idea of great weapons, but I have a feeling I should do the ironfist, just for the 2+ save.  The other question is should I build a second unit.

Week 1 Ogres -
Book and my now FREE Mournfang Cavalry,  this puts me really a little bit ahead of what I wanted to be, I was going to pick up the battalion box but with life and bills the box was put off, the Cavalry have really helped me move along.

Week 2 Ogres - Ok so next week I will purchase new paints, primer etc and the battalion box. the box will not be opened until the Mournfangs are finished being painted.
There are two ways to arm Mournfang Cav, and it depends on how you intent to use them (funnily enough!).

1) Give them great weapons in a unit of 2, send them monster hunting (possibly with the flaming banner)
2) Everything else!

Seriously, I find Ironfists are worth it nearly all of the time, as you can seriously deny the enemy CR due to their high armour. Throw Spinemarrow on them and they'll hold up nearly anything for a couple of turns- and I'm only talking about a unit of two. If you take 4 or 5 of them in a single unit, they'll blow through most T3 or 4 enemy units, with very little retaliation. The only things to look out for are hits which ignore Armour saves (Sepulchural Stalkers shooting and Warmachines) or which might make them panic, as they're only a pitiful Ld.7

Look after them and they'll annihilate stuff for you :)

Their tears will be a perfect addition to the Butcher's cauldron.
Thanks UltraMegaBob ( Love the name btw)

I went with the ironfist, ogres are short on good armour saves and I think the mournfang are going to be the real heavy hitter in my army so I want them to be durable for the long run. right now I have four I will be adding two more after thanksgiving holiday, I wanna concentrate on my core right now.

I have two special units ( maneaters) and Mournfang

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week 2 - with my second week of Ogre Kingdoms already behind me.  I once again went against my head and sided with my gut, I got a few pints in me and traded a skaven screaming bell and a doomwheel for ogres, box of bulls and a box of guts.  I converted 3 of the bulls into the ironguts command and then made the rest of my ironguts..well ironguts. I also used the great weapons from the mournfang on my ironguts as they are big and impressive.    I took the remaining bulls and made them into maneaters arming one with two ironfist (pit-fighter style) and two pistols on his hip.  One with a pistol and a ironfist ( pirate) and the third I need to finish.

All the ogres ( but the last man eater) are now built and based and going to be primed this weekend.  So far I have spent 50 dollars on my new army (the book) and not a dime on any models yet. HOWEVER I need to start painting before I get overwhelmed.

Wow!  He must've wanted that model a lot! :) Always nice to get a few models that you wanted out of a trade.

I like the list, but it could be optimised a little more. Before making suggestions though, are you going for competitive or for what you like the look of? :)

Hey Just Josh!!

right now I am making this army just for fun, I am building a competitve army but that will not be ogres, I do not want ruin the fun I see in them for myself.  Most likely for a competitve army I will do Wood Elves or Dark Elves, I do however have bout 1800pts of skaven sitting here next to me lol.

Harry the hammer is a really nice model especially the limited edition, it just does nothing for me.   I would also like to point out that that list is actually out of date, I need to post the newer one.   But by all means toss in your suggestion
Okay, so for fun I think the list is pretty solid. With only a Level 1, its going to be outclassed in the magic phase more often than not, but that's not really too worrisome in a fun list :)

I'd be interested to see the updated list :)

So I made several small mistakes on that list, this is my fun list I redid it , I am also using this as my buy list.
The idea is to get in as quickly as I can ( yea I know thats always the plan) but I am hoping with my 3 big monsters in a 3k game ( that is the standard size in my area) that they will draw some of the magic and firepower towards them

A couple of things really... As you've said, you are playing this list for fun, so it doesn't need to be uber-competitive, but I would consider a change of banner on the Mournfang Cavalry. Personally, I always use the Dragonhide Banner.

Also, if you can, split the Sabretusks; if one dies, the other could panic and flee. If on their own, they don't have that issue, and are only there as redirectors and chaff. They are more than likely going to die, so you might as well make them as efficient as they can be :)

One last question, I notice the lack of a Ironblaster. What's the thought behind that? :)

Hey hey

Ok so I will try and explain me thinkin lol.

1) The Mournfangs - I Like the dragonhide banner as well, I think I will change up between the two if only for the sake of keeping things fresh. I listed the razor standard because in this verison of the list it was cheaper.  there are some other options I would like to experiment with on them as well.

2) I was hoping to use the sabertusk to hunt down enemy warmachines and lone characters. on the note of chaff and redirecting, I am gonna try a bull rush tactic, I am going full steam ahead every turn. as fast and far forward as I can.  I considered putting a hunter in with them if only to add the extra fighting power.

3) haha I love the Ironblaster, and it will see alot of play in my list but first and foremost I am giving big stompy a try. again its the bull rush tactic I am going for, get stuck in as fast as I can. If I remember the Ironblast can not march and fire so it will fall behind I am hoping to be in charging range on turn two.
