Terrain: The Maw Pit

original thread ↗

So I am trying to come up with some ideas for terrain to include in a Ogre Camp. This is the first one I have come up with. What do you think?

The Maw Pit: This pit is built in any ogre camp as a place for challenges and offerings to the Great Maw. Any character involved in a challenge within 3 inches of the Maw Pit gets no armor save of any kind against close combat attacks.

You should also give them frenzy!!!  :D  After all, it is a life or death gladiator match, things are gonna get crazy!!!
The enemy of my enemy is my double enemy.

Gut magic:  The art of eating what nobody else wants to eat, just to see what happens.

That could be interesting but I don't want to put too much in there, or it will just be ignored.

Perhaps just making people re-roll all successful saves near the Pit then? The Maw hungers for blood and bone, so would stop saves being useful in the hopes that it can have a sacrifice.

It seems harsh to handicap some armies/ models (Dwarves particularly), seeing as some characters don't put any points into defence... A 'Blender Vampire' would still be incredibly deadly, because he can do his thing, Skaven/ Gobbo/ Savage Orc characters would be inconvenienced completely, whilst a Dwarf Lord would get cut down because he couldn't use one of his chief features (good armour).

How about something equally useful for all races, such as any challenge within 3" which results in a Draw (equal wounds scored) means the Maw Pit does one wound to both challengers, no saves of any kind allowed.

Representing the Pit being both slightly/ magically sentient and very angry at the lack of offerings from boring fights? :glol:

Their tears will be a perfect addition to the Butcher's cauldron.
Although in hindsight the No Armour Save rule would be fluffy for the 'guts-out' fights that Ogres have in the Maw Pits.

Yeah that is what I was aiming for. The point of this for me, is to have some terrain options that work with the Ogre Fluff.

You could emphasise on what happens when you win the fight, to make people want to fight there?

The Maw Pit is a sacred part of any Ogre tribe's encampment. Full of "offerings" to their God, stinking piles of meat and bone, it is here where Ogres decide upon their chieftains. The winner of a "guts-out" fight for Tyranthood will become the leader, devouring the broken remains of the loser to the bellowing support of his newfound Tribe.
The victor of a challenge that takes place within 3 inches of the Maw Pit gains a permanent +1 modifier to his Leadership, to a maximum of 10. In addition, the victor's unit gain +1 to combat resolution for this round.
I miss the Tenderiser...
I used to be called "Ghlezgar", if you want to know.

And I will be taking that, thank you very much!
