Maneaters ROCK!!

original thread ↗

Im playing against dwarves for the first time this saturday and Im wondering whether the scouting MEs would be a viable tactic against them.

Will I be able to place them anywhere near where they could do some damage without them getting pasted by organ guns????
Scout/Posion + brace of pistols = maybe shoot the organ gun before it shoots you. Just hop inside the 24 inch range and pray for 6s. Its not remotely guaranteed unless you bring a ton of maneaters, you have to do 3 wounds in one round and hope its outside of Grugni bubble.

If you notice, there's a lot of 'maybe' 'pray and 'hope' in that sentence. It certainly could work though a scouting unit of maneaters will mess with his deployment (just make sure to deploy outside of the range of the organ guns unless you're going for the above hail mary)

Maneaters will chew dwarves up though if you can keep them alive long enough to get into combat.
Yeah, Leadbelchers would push Bulls out of the game if they were Core. I think this forum as a whole underrates Leadbelchers, because they tend to leave out that they are a bit better at shooting than equal points in Maneaters thanks to sheer volume, and the gap only widens when magic (particularly the Heavens variety) is taken into account. Plus, bodies are bodies, and the Wound count is pretty high on Leadies.

You do get about 12 extra wounds which is much better against shooting but in combat the lower damage output, WS and lack of stubborn means that in combat the extra wounds won't matter much.

Really? Is this  really what we are talking about?
I fought dwarves last thursday, with an organ gun.
The way I use maneaters is immune to psychology, swiftstride and the banner which gives +1 to movement.
I was in combat at the start of my turn two - I charged the organ gun and beat it to a pulp  :D
Personally I'm not a fan of poison pistols with scout, it's to much a gamble on such a large points unit.  And if you don't get first turn, they are to exposed to a world of pain early on in the game.
I'm a Swiftstride fan for sure. Scout is obviously a great rule when you get it for free or only have to pay a pittance for it, but with ME the cost of giving up another special rule is tad too high considering there's rarely a truly ideal sweet spot to stick them in. Swiftstride helps catch many opponents out even when I've informed them of it at the start of the game and those D3 Impact Hits per guy are just disgusting.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.

Those D3 impacts sure are great and I used to run my ME with it but I've recently been using them with poison and scout with brace of pistols and flaming attacks.  The way I treat scout is that yeah if your opponent is not careful you can deploy them in that sweet spot across the table, however, far more often I use scout as a way to get that perfect matchup every time.

Poison+Flaming pretty much means instant death to those nasty regenerating creatures out there (Chimera, Hydra, Vargulf etc...) by creating the perfect matchup for me it makes my opponent either try and fight it out( disadvantage for him) or adjust his battle plan to you.  Any time you can steal the initiative away like that is a win for you.  This is the true strength of the scout rule for this unit.
Horses for courses I guess. For me scouting maneaters are just to exposed, and without the first turn are open to chargers. I'd use a firebelly for taking care of regen.
Poisoned, flaming shooting is far more efficient than anything the Firebelly can put out there. Scout seems flashy, but I'm of the opinion that it's not optimal. Give me a brick of 8 Poison/Stubborn Maneaters with the Flaming Banner and a Brace of Pistols, and watch most things they fight melt into slag. :)
