Returning player Rhinox question

original thread ↗

Hey guys, returning player after an absence from WFB completly for 4 or 5 years at least, instantly decided i want to re-collect my Ogre army from the past, that i regret selling but anyway that does not matter now......

Basicly im not a fan of many or any of the new kits the army has received other then the plastic Scraplauncher in my absence so was wondering if Rhinox Cavalry can still be somewhat effective, as im not a competative player but still don't really want to spend a £100 on a unit of 3, painting and converting them only to discover they don't really work at all anymore?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.
The rules for the Rhinox Riders can be found on the Forge World website last time I looked, and besides from being pretty easy to bait around the place due to their Frenzy, they are probably the most powerful/hard-hitting unit in the game. Only the Chaos Dwarf K'daai Destroyer comes close outside of Storm of Magic games. They are brutal.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
I completely echo what Eg said. Most places local to me don't allow them to be used, arguing that they are OP beyond the expected norm for GW/FW (Banner of the World Dragon anyone?)... I used to have 10 of them, but sold off all but 3 due to never getting to use them anymore :(

I would definitely consider buying them, but maybe just checking with your local gaming group before you waste your time/money? :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Cool thanks guys, appreciate the help.

Maybe i will be able to slide by with them considering i wont be taking any of the new army book stuff which im guessing some must be much more powerful then the old options?
Maneaters got a whole load better, and Mournfangs (new entry) get a good outing in most circles :)

Most of the old stuff is still as good, if not better, but tends to be overshadowed by the new stuff :) You should be okay fielding Rhinox Riders if you aren't planning on running the nastier Maneater builds, or units of 4+ Mournfang :)

Yeah, im not a competative player at all, just want to field my old school ogre army, still remember being the first person in the store the day they got released as an army :D

So my force will in general be a Tyrant, Butcher or two & a Hunter for characters, a unit of Ironguts plus a few units of Bulls(im still calling them this) backed up by Leadbelchers, Rhinox Riders, Scraplauncher & a Giant.

Only newish thing i may try is a horde of Bulls every now and again as i love the image of it. :)

Sounds like a plan to me! The best part is that you won't lose as much as you would've with this list in our last book, with some canny generalship :) Good luck, and think about starting a gnoblog to charter the progress as you recollect your old army :)
