New SM out there...

... And unlike the awesome starter box they aren't pretty.

Me no like!  :|

Y'know, for someone who's never played 40k... I gotta admit, those Centurions... They just don't look right. They look very, idk, static, like as if they're statues. They almost look like chess pieces lol
33 Gnobs! Over 3 Packs of Trappers! Woot!
Gibblet, Nibblet, Crunchybit (from Slaughtermaster achievement)

New book WLD: 20/10/2 - Yay tourney wins and random game win!

The AA Rhino is fantastic, lovely, blocky, riveted etc... Sazel's right about the Centurions, but that's not my only bugbear - these guys are clearly going to be treading on the toes of Termies in regards to role.

'Yeah, these are our elite Terminators, the last word in impregnable armour and the heaviest man-portable weaponry possible... except these guys we had all along at the back which you never saw'.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
I thought Space Marines were monks.

But somehow a Terminator and a Dreadnaught got it on...
My hood is my castle...
I think GW needs to look at the stuff Forge World is putting out for Space Marines, their stuff looks a lot better than GW's recent attempts IMO.
GW's highest grossing army (as far as I'm aware) and they come out with those? That being said, I know darn well people will buy them, but still...

The AA Rhino looks great though!
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!

From the awesome dino release for fantasy to this Lego feast and for their flagship line?

They do not need to look at FW, they need to fire the dude that OK'd these.

Speaking of Forge World:

The robot's fine as long as it stays in 30k and as far away from my lovely, blocky 41st millennium as possible (it's got the most acute case of Warmachine-itus I've yet seen in a GW model), but the Magos is gorgeous and I hope it's the kind of thing we'll be seeing in this rumoured skirmish game.

With the new Centurions it looks like you got what you wished for...

Seriously I agree, the Dreadnaughts are awesome, the FW Transformer robots not at all.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Centurions... Really?!? They don't fit at all with anything in the world of 40k... Except with the Lord of Skulls... Which is another horrible kit... With a horrible price... Glad I'm playing Dark Angels!

I don't mind the Lord of Skulls as it has the excuse of being an idol in the likeness of the god in question, not just a fighting machine. It perhaps looks a tad too humanoid (arms with dimensions similar to those on Titans would have been better over what it has) but that's my only real complaint model-wise. If it was useable in standard 40k I would have been seriously tempted to pick it up to serve as a big centrepiece for my force.

A. Curse. It's.

Dreadnaught and Helbrute = Awesome!

New anti air craft rhino looks nice as does the new machanicum stuff.  But those centurions well.... as everyone else feels they just don't fit.  Even the name centurion isn't right for what looks like a fortification breaching specialists.

It surprises me to be honest considering the GW did go out of their way to make terminators look more dynamic from the older versions that suffered from the static pose syndrome (as well as many other models).

I like the new Whirlwind variant, especially as they haven't just created a new turret and stuck it on top of the old chassis. The chassis has had a total overhaul, and I absolutely love the stability struts on the side.

I really like the Sternguard/Vanguard Veterans in plastic. They are a very nice kit, and will lend themselves very well to being converted. My only concern is that despite only getting 5 in a box, and them being plastic, they will be stupidly priced.

The Centurions are an abomination. Honestly, from a model perspective that are ghastly, and so very poorly designed. From a canon perspective, it is even worse. As has already been said, GW have made a very strong point of making Terminators the pinnacle of personal armour systems, only for these guys to have been around all along. Yes, because of course you would just forget about them... :/

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
The Vets look very sexiful. I can imagine the Sternguard getting plundered for the combi-weapons by CSM players quite often.

Agree with everyone on the Centurions making my eyes bleed.... will be interesting to see where they put these guys considering the prevalence of 2+/3++ TH/SS Termies as it is. Unless they nerf the Storm Shield back to a 4++ which I'd be happy with, but if these guys maintain the same level as the old TH/SS Termies then we'll be seeing them all over the place.

Luckily, no-one I play against has regular Marines so I don't have to worry about all of this.

Unfortunately to my knowledge Storm Shields remained as they are in the Dark Angels book, the only thing we can really hope for on that front is a price hike (Chaos Termies took a negligible increase so I would expect a sizeable one here).

You'd expect, other than this is Space Marines and GW dare not make them worse! Considering Marines used to (not sure if they still do) count for over 50% of the total sales for GW doesn't make sense for them to take stuff off them. Anyway, I'll restrain myself from being all vitriolic about the poster boys.

Having now seen the new rhino variants it is nice to see new body work on them.  I particularly like the bracing pistons on the lower part of the tank to secure the tank from recoil of its weapons.  A nice practical touch.

Also seen the centurions with ranged heavy weapons and though still not great, slightly more plausible then their assault variants.  At least they would be akin to chaos obliterators despite still looking far to bulky.

Every first founding chapter not covered by its' own codex now gets a pair of special rules. Whilst I'm happy for those who play the cool, typically-swept-under-the-rug chapters like Iron Hands, the Chaos player within me is seriously narked. The lack of Legion-specific rules was fine as long as it was a core design paradigm of 6th to not distribute such things (just as one of the paradigms of early 4th was to apparently gut books of 2/3rds of their content) but that's very quickly gone out the window for the poster boys.

*Sigh*

Any moment now I expect them to turn into cars and drive away...
Here there be ogres.

Oua brothars teh Blahk Tehmplars are rohlled in to oua boook! And wiht new Storhmravehns, we will finally portray Steel Rehn!

Well, the way it looks:
Chapter Specific SC only. Successors must choose their origins, like Apocalypse for SC.
Black Templars are in the book. They will see a little enlcave of rules near the end of the bestiary.
Centurions will be Heavy Support, regardless of Type.
Stalker is heavy support.
Sternguard and Vanguard are Elites.
Robbin Cruddace is writing it.
Crimson Fists are to get a supplement. Then it's between Ultramarines and White Scars.

So, Space Marines seem to be looking pretty good. Atleast, Ward is not 3++ everything Ultramarinish.
SPASHE MAREENZ?! IN METAL BAWKSHES?! SINDRIII!!

*Ahem*

Yeah, my CSM are going to be collecting dust for a while now. The one-upmanship, intended or not, really bites.

As a Black Legion follower I couldn't be more happy.

Lots of starting SM players where I live, including two previous Orks or nothing at all players.

Good to have VotLW coming to use.

Pshh, GW are continuing with this Limited Edition Army Book thing. Seriously, who pays £35 for a cover and a ribbon?

If it were a faction I really cared about, I'd go for it. An Ogre LE would be snapped up in a heartbeat. Potentially an Ork one, too.

I love my Ogres, only Fantasy army I've ever played. But I couldn't justify the LE book, not on my budget anyway :)

To boldly go...

I'm going to say it. Against all my better judgement and normal hatred of such things....

I like the Centurions.

They appeal to the ten year old in me that just wanted bigger, badder armour with bigger, wackier, less plausible guns. And that is exactly what these are. They are in no way plausible (knee joint annoys me considering that is near the actual marines foot) but they are big. They are status looking a la Lego...but they are basically immovable manned firing platform suits.

I am not impressed with the new captain sprue. BORING. And £18 for one plastic man sized miniature!? I could buy squads for that 5 years ago!

Friend bought the Centi box yesterday, built one in about half an hourh, and saw how small they were. They're nowhere near the size GW was making them look to be.
Stalker/ Hunter kit is fabulous, with extra pannells for other tanks too.
Libby+Cap are way too expensive for a newer version of AOBL Captain.
Book rules are really good and fun, not broken but I can see some combos to be abused. (Grav Weapons are Salvo 2/3 and 3/5!)
Reclusiam Command squad will save you the most money, (€78 - €18 - €32 - €35 = €7 saved)
Special characters got a needed boost.
- Marneus gets to roll 3 times and pick one Warlord trait. He can use combat doctrines twice. Still has God Of War. Orbital Bombardment. Termie armour for free. Same points.
- Khan became rediculosly cheap, being 150 WITH moondraken. Havent looked at rules yet.
- Vulkan makes all Meltas in army Master Crafted. Flamers get twin linked. No TH reference though.
- Kantor got 10 points more expensive, but gives +1 Combat res, +1 Attack, Stubborn, Preferred Enemy (Orks) Hatred (Orks), still has Hold The Line!
-Lysander got more expensive. Haven't seen rules though.
- Sternguard and Vanguard are Elites. Small points deduction in both.
Tac marines got reduced in points.
- As did scouts

So it is a fairly nice codex, with what seems to be a lot of tip-toeing to keep GW fans staying in the game.
