The Ogre Stronghold will be 10 years old roughly a year from now, and I'm excited to announce that to lead up to the celebrations we're hosting a year long painting event starting right now!
The goal of the event is to have a fully painted Ogre Stronghold Ogre Kingdoms army by July 13th 2014, with all of the models painted by the community. There is no size limit to this army, and both experienced and less experienced painters can take part. We're going to focus on one element of the army at a time over the coming months, starting with Ogres/Ogre Bulls!
Every model should preferably include the colour red somewhere, as that's the Stronghold's main colour and it'll help unify the army a bit. Standard GW Ogre skin colour scheme might be best too. Feel free to make use of the Stronghold's symbol too (posted above), or even just use the red Maw's Tooth mountain on its own if you prefer!
Painted minis are to be shipped directly to me at this address:
17 Derryboye Road Killinchy Newtownards County Down BT23 6TP United Kingdom
I'll take photos of the minis I receive and hopefully make some unboxing videos throughout the year for our YouTube channel, but you're also welcome to contribute to this Gnoblog with your painting progress!
The really cool part: after the July 13th deadline, the entire army will be awarded to one lucky Stronghold member!
Submitting models gains you entry to the competition for free, and you'll also be able to purchase additional entries closer to the deadline next year. Money received will first go towards shipping the army to the winner, and any remaining money will be put towards supporting the website in the future. The winner of the army will be chosen at random.
Hopefully we can build something awesome together, an army fit for the Stronghold!

Fantastic idea! I'm getting some Bulls next weekend that I'm not going to use in my eventual army, I'll begin painting them Stronghold colours as soon as I can!
I miss the Tenderiser... I used to be called "Ghlezgar", if you want to know.

For sent-in minis, do you mind if they're not glued to the base, but have the base sent with them? I may participate, but I've received minis that broke off their base during travels... However, I understand that the gluing would get monotonous after a while if that became an issue.
Eitherway, this is an amazing idea, and I'd love to contribute if I can!

Oooh, I'm tempted to participate in this! I'll see if I have enough time to finish a bull.
Here there be ogres.
Hragged02 Aug 2013
Have to say I'm really excited to see what arrives! I've got a video camera at the ready. Just make sure to include your Stronghold username somewhere in the package please so I know who has sent what
Theik02 Aug 2013
Are we going with any sort of unified basing theme as well, or just whatever-floats-your-boat?
Here there be ogres.
Hragged02 Aug 2013
Good point, perhaps it would be best if I based them all so they look the same?
Shadowlord02 Aug 2013
Yes, either standard dull with green static grass, or something more akin to The Mountains of Mourn - scorched earth, stones and maybe for those wants, a GW classic -> skulls.

ooh, and some snow too! Not a ton, but maybe bits of it, as if they're at the foot of their mountain dwellings!
I haven't done any basing yet for my army, so if I do add something for the project, I'll hafta learn fast

Im in, ive no bulls at the moment but i will see what ive got in the house.
heres a link to my more random models and paint projects, my ogre army can be found by following the other gnoblog link.

It goes without saying that I am in on this too
On the topic of basing, I think the standardised grey stone/earth, with a smattering of snow is the best bet

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Hragged08 Aug 2013
Could this be our first Ogre?
I'll record an unboxing video tonight!

You have until July 2014 You paint an Ogre Bull however you want, including a little red colouring to tie it to the Ogre Stronghold colour scheme, and send it to the address in the original post

I have been away from my ogres for a bit, dealing with my apoc orks, but I am back on my ogres again.
Are you still looking for Bulls to be sent? I was checking the dates for posts here and they seem to have gone a bit quiet. If you still need bulls, then I can paint one up and bang it in the post if you still want them? G_H

Sorry to boot a dead horse, but this seems amazing. Are we still on Bulls?

I'm new here but would love to partake in this! I'm in the US so if I mail you something as a gift, you shouldn't have to pay for taxes right? I'll be sure to mark the value at $0.01. Cheers!

Please guys, check the dates on this thread before posting.
The (I have to say brilliant) idea for this project was first posted up in (roughly) Aug 2013. Since then input and further info on how this project is going/ what is next to amass/ how many bulls are collected so far etc etc has virtually dried up.
I would suggest that until Hragged has posted an update I would tend to suggest that people hold-off sending stuff.
I would add though, I think this is an amazing idea and we should really run with it. If Hragged is otherwise engaged with other stuff, maybe another one of the mods would be prepared to take this on? G_H
just-josh18 Jan 2014
I tend to agree that we should hold off until we know where H was with this. Unless someone else is happy to take up the mantle?
It is a great idea, and certainly one I wouldn't wish to see go the same way as past projects (Stronghold dice as an example!)...

Enthusiasm is always appreciated here at the forum. However, as mentioned this one just seemed one tooth too far for the maw and we couldn't get everything together.
My hobby life is so limited at the moment I would love to take on the project but just don't have the spare time!
I agree, wait for Hragged to continue if at all.
