Mr Horrible's Ogres...

original thread ↗

So i bought and painted an Ogre army back when they first came out a few years back.  The came out sort of meh and the army was really sub par in terms of performance, so i shelved them.  The new(ish) book and some free time has got me jazzed to spiff them up and get them on the table again.  My club runs an escalation league through the winter (in the US) and this year i am going to play the fatties....Now a component of the league is paint as you go, so i wont have any painting done for a couple of months (i think we are starting in October) but i have a ton of models to strip and prime, as well as bases to make and paint to prep for the league (no restriction on that type of stuff -hur, hur, hur) so without any more blathering, here is my initial list for the 500 pt tier:

Firebelly
4 Ironguts, full command
3 Leadbelchers, musician
Sabertusk
Sabertusk

Total is 498

I have all the models already and everything except the firebelly needs to be stripped so that's where these posts will be heading initially....

thanks for reading.

ALright so after a brief work-inducved hiatus, here is my first update.

Ironguts are all stripped, As are the sabertusks. The Leadbelchers are next.  THe bases for all 500 pts are assembled and i'll rattlecan prime them tonite, humidity allowing....

Once i get the reamining models stripped (hopefully by the end of the week) it will be filling the seams and prime (r)-time.

Once i start actually painting something I'll put up some pix.  maybe of the bases????

I've got a campaing move coming up this weekend and a store run event the following weekend, so my hobbytime is getting limited, hopefully i can squeeze in enough time ( and the humidity drops long enough) so i can get this all done for the monthly challenge....

Next installment:

Bases are all Primed and about halfway complete.  Should be able to have them done tonight.  2/3 of the Leaddies are stripped, unfortnately, i dumped my bowl of strip goo out and now have to go on a quest to find more     :x

I'll post some pix of the bases when the are done.

I've got an in-store tourney this coming weekend so i am going to be spiffing up my O&G for that...should take a day or so, then back into the maw

So i completed my Monthly Painting Challenge for July and have my initial 500 pts prepped for the clubs upcoming escalation league.  it looks like:  Firebelly, 3 Belchers, 4 Guts withMus and std and two Tusks.

I also did the bases, all assembled and painted purty....i'll post some pix tonight, if the baby cooperates.

This past weekend there was a little instore tourney...24 players.  I ran O&G and finished----poorly  however, they were apparently painted well enough for me to lock down a best appearance award, and 75 bux in store credit, which i turned around and picked up a box of MFC and an ironblaster.  So, i got that going on...hopefully some pix tomorrow ( at least of the bases, the models are just primered black, can't start the paint until the league launches in Sept....

Ok so after successfully completing my July monthly challenge, which is basically the prep work for the  initial list for my upcoming escalation league, I am moving on the the next 500 pts.  After looking at the list, however, the next 500 pts is a whopping 8 models.  5 Maneaters and 3 Ironguts.  Stripped, assembled, primed and the bases done.  I also have to pry the camera away from Mrs Horrible, so i can get some pictures of the progress up (although TBH aside from the bases its just a pile of black models).

Anyway, so i started on assembling the new (for me) maneaters:  Golfang and Bragg.  I opened up Bragg, began to clean him up and assemble when i noticed that his pole-hook thing is bent.  Grrrrr, stupid finecast.  Ill have to heat and treat it.

I move on to Golfang and, much to my dismay, his axe-club thing in the right hand is bent too, and more importantly, his left (sword) hand is not included.  Now I am really annoyed, and i get on the phone to GW.  They apparently are shipping me his hand (im sure someone is flagging this post right now) and i have to borrow the wife's hair dryer to try to straighten out these two weapons.  Finecast RULES!  To be honest, i think its GW's Quality Control that sucks....

After my Finecast rage, i stripped the two crappily painted metal maneaters and assembled the third, stripped the three iron guts and assembled the 8 bases.

So for my escalation league prep, i am almost done up to 1000 pts...

As for my August Paiint challenge, that is almost done as well.  I'll Probably get my add-on of my Skullvane manse terrain assembled / primed as well.

Much to my surprise, when i got home from Work Friday, the replacement for Golfang's missing hand was there.  THe customer service guy from GW told me a week or so, it took 4 days.   So good on them.  The weekend had minimal outside commitments, so i was able to get the ironguts and 3 maneaters primed.  I got 8 bases assembled and primed, i fixed (straightened) the two resin maneaters and built and primed the Skullvane Manse as well as its base.  whew.

I figure tonight, i'll prime the last two maneaters, and start painting the bases for my monthly challenge before tackling the terrain bit.  oh, and post some pix,  i know i keep saying that, but it WILL happen tonight.
