Ogres contrast army

original thread ↗

A little bored at the moment and trying to think of an army that is most contrasting to the ogre army book.

Ogres are predominately small units of high toughness but low armour melee

We have 1unit of cavalry and 1unit of ranged and nothing that is airborn.

So what is our opposite?
Currently leaning towards wood elves
Those who live by the sword, get shot by those who don't.

Elves of any kind, skaven and tomb kings all pop out. Stay away from Warriors, Beastmen, Lizzies to avoid the most similar armies, Empire and Bretts do the same thing as ogres but in a very different way, but aren't polar opposites.
Great weapons make Great weapons.
NEVER YIELD!
Tomb Kings or Vampire Counts and Skaven all come to mind, the latter especially. WElfs are less armored than we although Forest Spirits may bring you too close to us for your liking. Still they have flying troops, massive shooting potential, Life Magic, glass cannon cc units, and hardly anyone expects them ;)
Game's the same, just got more fierce.

Skaven... Never actually seen a rat army, not in my meta however they intrigue me a lot.

Have been tossing up lately starting a second army, never have mainly because I love the appeal of wood elves but they need an update. Might give it another 6 months and no update in sight shaven could be a go.

GW are on a good roll this year updating a lot of armies so who knows

Well, I heard a rumor that WE should be updated by either the end of this year or the beginning of next... more like beginning of next :P I think the order for WHFB will be lizards, dwarves, then we?? or something like that. Only a rumor :P
33 Gnobs! Over 3 Packs of Trappers! Woot!
Gibblet, Nibblet, Crunchybit (from Slaughtermaster achievement)

New book WLD: 20/10/2 - Yay tourney wins and random game win!

The order is apparently Lizards, Dark Elves and then Dwarves. I wouldn't get hopes up for WE anytime soon.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.

I know lizards and dwarves I can totally understand as they need an update.

Dark elves however? They are a very strong army did not think they need an update.

The logic behind book updates in no way depends on the power of a given book and the most accurate means of predicting it is by scrying bird entrails. Dark Elves do, however, need bringing into line, especially with their magic. So far 8th has seen some significant limitations on the ability of armies to manipulate the magic phase and elements such as the Sacrificial Dagger, Power of Darkness and ability to use more than 6 dice to cast are prime candidates for a look-at. *Fanciful speculation ahead* Personally, I'd let all DE wizards channel power dice on a 4+ but make them take a wound if they roll a 1 when doing so.

Clan Skryre-themed skaven, most def.

I started playing Fantasy with a shooty skaven army with lots and lots of slaves, giant rats,  cannons, flamethrowers and mortars. That's cheap, high-number, high initiative, low S and T units.

Gave up painting them halfway through after four months when I realized I had about a hundred more models to go.

Switched to ogres, painted up a 2400 pt army in two months. :p
Game record:
15W 1D 7L
I've just picked up my second army, and am slowly assembling them.  I went with Bretonnians just for the difference in Cavalry, but really for the difference in painting.  Gonna paint me some filthy peasants and glorious knights.
Most recent result: Defeat.  2400 Points Swedish vs Tomb Kings
