Advice on building.....a Stonehorn/ Thundertusk

original thread ↗

Hi
so, ordinarily I wouldn't ask this kind of question, just get on with it an see, but I thought what the hell...why not use the resource of experience from you guys so I can get this model made without any slip up's.
so;

What are the pitfalls of making either of these models? That is to say, if I embark on making a GW Stonehorn/ Thundertusk what are the areas I should look out for or what are the bits/ parts that have caused you some headaches when building or assembling this model. Absolutely all advice is golden and well appreciated. Tips on building with/ without rider, which bits to put where, mould lines to watch for etc etc, all are welcome as I have never assembled one of these models before and I would like to get the thing together right the first time.

Thanks in advance

Well, first of all, if you can do it, magnetise the heads; that way, you save yourself $50 from having to get two kits (which is what I didn't do,  :roll: ).

I found that the parts for the Stonehorn's saddle were a tad troublesome for me; the bits of rope between the two large "lower jaw" segments that jut out the back of the saddle broke off (on both kits that I purchased, mind you lol). HOWEVER, IF you have the spares, I discovered that the cage from the Giant kit (y'know, the one you could put the screaming human in or not) fits that very gap perfectly. I accustomed mine to have some spare meat bits inside of it, and a quiver affixed to the bottom of the sideways-tipped cage. It looks pretty good IMO, and it fills that gap that happened to me.

Another part that I personally had trouble with were the reins on either model. However, due to my heavy-handedness, I think I broke most of those particular bits without even realizing I had done so before it was too late lol.

As for mould lines, well, I don't recall any that were THAT noticeable on mine, but I do know that sometimes the back and body segments of either beast don't quite fit the gaps perfectly, so if you're a perfectionist, be prepared to have some GS in some ridges.

Other'n that, If you do choose to build the Stonehorn over the Thundertusk (or, again, if you build one of each from two separate kits), you end up having a leftover Ogre rider body available, if you wanna be creative with that. ;) I actually clipped the legs and GS'd them a bit to create a foot Hunter/Maneater conversion, because I never let a good Ogre body go to waste :D
