Conversion and Finished Painting - Ogre Kingdoms Butcher, Hunter, ?? not sure

original thread ↗

I wanted to make this a Counts as Butcher, because I hate those models. I think it is definitely a hunter though. Maybe a Bruiser. I am going to do an entire unit with the shields because I hate the iron fist. The pictures were taken with my iphone. The phone takes good pictures, but they always make the paint look thick with alot of brush strokes.

Also, what do you guys think about this. I am thinking of hitting the ribs on the back with gloss varnish to make them look fresh. I had a hard time painting them and picking colors. Not sure if im really satisfied with how they turned out.

I think you are right - could be a hunter/ bruiser but failing to see the butcherness I am afraid...  Maybe a weapon swap for a staff could make him look more magical (thinking Beasts caster look).

But nice looking model!  Brilliantly painted and how on earth did you do that shield!?!?!?  Looks Pimp!

Hmmm I think you should use the minotaur shields, they would look more fitting, but whatever.
I don't know what he did, but if I was going to make an ogre sized kite shield I'd start looking at PVC pipe and if that was too thick I'd take a sheet of PVC of the appropriate thickness lay it across a toilet roll and pop it in the oven for a few seconds at 100C. Milage may vary, I assume it would work, but I havn't tried it.
Actions speak louder than words, unless your eating a mime of course.
To make the shields, I used plasti card. I cut it to shape and then used a pencil to give it a slight bend. Once then bend was in place, I glues it to the arm and made sure the glue points made it keep the bend. Then I cut a small piece of plasti card to look like a strap and cut some small bolts / rivets to looks like it was held in place. Not too bad to create.

To make painting easier, I paint the arm / shield off of the model. They can be hard to paint under. I have a big unit of these underway.

As tozon said, a staff would make him look like a Beast caster. Perhaps, placing something else in his right hand, like a horn or animal skull?

But he could be a Bruiser from a Nomad Ogre tribe.

Where's the egregious amounts of blood that Butchers like to be soaked in? :P

Kidding aside, this truly is a great model, but it does lack the look of a Butcher. Maybe add some meaty bits hanging from the gutplate (or even on the shield?), or put a boiling pot in front of him.

However, as it is, it can definitely be a Hunter/Bruiser, or even a Maneater champ (I mean, imperial-esque shield with an imperial-esque mace? Screams Maneater to me!).

Well done!
