Byronic's Tutorial Thread

original thread ↗

Hello ogre guys 'n' gals, I wrote my first ever tutorial on this forum a year and a bit ago :). Since then I've been writing new ones whenever I can get a moment, and have a suitable subject.

I've finally taken the time to do some actual organising, and as a result my ever growing selection of tutorials should be more simple to have a nosey at.

If you'd like to see them presented in a more photogenic way there's a gallery format available here[/b], which may be easier to navigate.

Wow!

Would you mind if I posted a link to this in my Tactica? :)
It would be immensely helpful to any Ogre player here at the Stronghold.
Thank you for posting this! :)

Edit - I have amended the credits and have added your tutorials just below the "buying guide". If you would allow me would I be able to copy your "Painting Ogres" and add it to one of my reserved sections? :)

Would people find it useful if I made this topic a sticky within the Butcher's Cauldron? :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Most certainly JJ :)

Hi guys, apologies for the monumental lack of updates recently, once very hectic job in a growing business, and two dead laptops later I have finally returned from my hiatus! ^_^

Thank you very much Byronic!

Hi Chris, you're welcome mate, go for it, that's one of Tom's (Dreadboi), but go for it, he's a lovely chap and wrote them to help others, so I'm sure he'd be glad to have it spread about a little more!

Consider it done :)

Awesome, this has made my day! I will now endeavour to make it worth it by posting a slew of recent tutorials up! :D

Here we go:

"
I've added a dipping tutorial, my subject was Paul the Plaguebearer:

I've not dipped anything in years, but it's how I learned to paint - i must say I really enjoyed it, and had forgotten how fast it is!"

Your techniques on sculpting chain mail and scale mail are brilliant. Exceptional work man, the way you've explained them seems relatively simple to do yet nothing nearly as effective has even crossed my mind before. If you get the chance, please post more tips on working with greenstuff, I'd really love to get some advice on how to fabricate swords n shit with greenstuff. I've attempted in the past and made complete abortions.

Seriously man, awesome work.
Hello all, you may have noticed that I've been away for..well nearly forever since my last post. The reason for this is that apparently opening up a B+M store is a lot of hard work! :).

However it's now up and running and going really well, so I'm going to squeeze in some time to bring out some more content.

This is my first attempt at a video, no need to go easy on any criticism etc, I'm all for it, as it'll help me improve things and get them up to speed faster. The obvious faults, (apart from my lack of experience with being recorded :)) are the volume of the commentary, and me needing some pictures of the finished product in there at the end, and possibly beginning also.

Anyway, my

How to build a textured base tutorial

is done, and I'd really appreciate all feedback, cheers chaps :).

Also if people would like to see a few photos and words about the process of kitting out the shop scroll down a little >Here<

I'm starting off with simple things, and will move on to more complicated subjects later (to give myself a bit more of a chance to get used to recording/editing etc), but all requests would be most welcome :).

Hi guys, it's not quite a tutorial, but this may be of use to some people, today's blog posts is a quick overview of my thoughts on one of my favourite hobby products, the lovely Vallejo Glaze Medium:

It really is a fantastic product, a lot of people coming into the store haven't ever used it, or even know what applications it has.

My voice is still pretty shot after the weekend, hopefully it'll be fixed enough to finish the commentary on the tutorial Friday or so.

I've written another blog post on how I go about choosing resin bases

As ever any questions fire away :).
