Luck or skill?

original thread ↗

Hey I'm interested in hearing the most amazing one sided jaw dropping victories (or defeats) your armies have experienced. Was it all the luck of the dice, or are you that good ( or bad :p) of a tyrant? These aren't limited to your ogre armies, any are except able? I'm lookinig forward to reading some of the best and funniest moments on here!

There's little subtly in war. You have no winners and losers, you only have those who have sunk to there lowest only to emerge on top. That is why the most respected in times of crisis are the dirtiest of us all
my first ever game of warhammer.

my friend and i had just built 500pts. Ogres for me (of course) and vampires for him.
second round magic phase he tried to res some ghouls double 6's and his only wiz goes to the warp on snake eyes.
army crumbles and i win.

obviously pure skill on my behalf  ;)
Those who live by the sword, get shot by those who don't.

First round old skaven book.
He rings bell: triples and loses his unit with all characters in it.
Pure skill on my part of course.

Though the most fun games have been, where both players have the same amount of luck, and have a close game based on skill

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

Ogre achievements: 41/101
In one turn I managed to demolish half my WoC army with a miscast, panic most of my units, and accidentally blow up the rest with a wayward hellcannon shot. Good times!

Had a unit break from cannon fire and cascading failed leadership checks saw most of the tribe flee the field.

I had my gutstar fleeing due to a panic caused by a sabretooth getting hit and killed by a fireball.

It failed the Ld9 reroll test... first turn...

Freak accidents happen.

My first ever game, 2007 with the Skull Pass set, I was Dwarfs he was Goblins. First turn shooting phase my cannon (which had to guess the range) took out his shaman and troll through a failed LOS, lucky bounce and a failed regen... I've loved cannons ever since
Game's the same, just got more fierce.

First ever game of 8th edition ogres (first game back since 4th ed) back in September.

Read through the army book and played a game against Dwarves. He shot up my gnoblars they ran, made my gut star run and I lost the game in turn 2 because it ran off the table. After the game I realised Gnoblars don't cause panic in ogres!

Ogre Kingdoms Tactica - http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=26888.msg354223#msg354223
First turn of the game, I was playing as Tk against high elves.

Took a screaming catapult and placed the center of the template on a bunkered Tecis. Figured I had a 1/6 chance of him failing a look out sir so I said screw it I'm a gambler.

Rolled a direct hit, he failed his look out sir on a one and I did max multi wounds on the template. Dead Teclis before my opponent even took his first movement phase.

Beautiful day.

Once lost two large blocks of Beastmen Infantry, containing BSB and Great Bray General, before my first turn started.

Screaming Skull catapult hit my Cygor (was trialling one out) and instantly killed him. Panicked the aforementioned blocks, who failed all their tests and shot off the board. Some impressive running there.

Could be worse though - actually saw a Brett army, consisting of only three units (two uber knight blocks and a peasant bowman line), lose its two knight blocks in exactly the same way. Naturally, the ten Bowmen didn't go on to defeat the Tomb King army...
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
As lizardmen vs Tomb Kings. 1000-1500 or something. I had one big unit of 30(36?) Saurus as my only block. One screaming skull catapult shot, kills the guy under the hole (I should note that the tomb kings player ALWAYS hits dead on with his catapults. Almost never scatters) at which point they fail the cold blooded Ld8 panic test. They run towards the boards edge, and as such a deep unit 6x5 or 6x6 they don't have far to go... but I roll a 3! They have a chance to rally!

They don't.
Adepticon 3000pt last year. First game against High Elves. My opponent had 114 sea guard in one unit. I had a unit of 24 Ironguts and 6 characters in horde formation. There was one round of combat, needless to say, the High Elves didn't win it. The game was over in 45 minutes.
Well, last night my friends and I played a doubles, 2000 pts each. Ogres (me) and WoC vs Lizards and Woodies. We got first turn, and in that I sniped a lvl 3 life caster from the Woodies with my Ironblaster, second turn of ours we destroyed a block of 8 Treekin (two firebellies and a block of Forsaken with Flaming Sword), their second turn the Slann miscasts twice, once cupped hands, the second he rollled a 4 for the miscast table, doesn't get sucked in, but 17/20 of his Temple Guard dies while I'm in perfect double charge range with two units of Bulls...they gave up after the miscast...
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!
