Ogre Shooty list

original thread ↗

Hey guys, me again.
I have been challenged by a friend who is either going to be taking Skaven or WoC (wont tell me)
After 6 games and winning every single one I have decided I would like to try a shooty ogres list!
What do you guys think? viable?
However I honestly have no idea when it comes to this so I am looking for suggestions and help! :)

Maybe split up the one unit of Leadbelchers into 2 units?  2 units of 6 and 1 unit of 10.  That way you can either target both units of 6 at the same target (like a unit of 12) or you can split their fire at two different targets when you need to take out smaller enemy units.
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
I would run something close to the following

Groups of 6 leadbelchers are enough and with three you can pick and choose more targets.

List would be really fun to play....but not many games as gun lines are boring IMO

Bruiser: Armour Of Destiny; great weapon.
Butcher: Dispel Scroll; Ruby Ring Of Ruin; Level 2 Wizard.

9 Ironguts: Gutlord; Bellower; standard bearer; Standard of Discipline.
18 Gnoblars: Gnoblar Trappers.

6 Leadbelchers: Bellower.
6 Leadbelchers: Bellower.
6 Leadbelchers: Bellower.

Those who live by the sword, get shot by those who don't.

You will be wasted by anything making in into combat : ) ...and actually most will make it into combat.

6 belcher will super-break against 1+ AS opponent. On a average shooting round they will cause 1.17 wounds against T4 1+AS troops (WoC knights and juggers) and in CC deal 0.75 wounds.
Assuming you shoot one chaos knight (remember no stand and shoot) then 4 vanilla knights+FC will cause 5 wounds - winning combat by 5-7. And Chaos knights are just the lesser evil here : ) Also trolls with a 4+ regen will be a pest.
I ahve little experience with skaven but shooting slaves with belchers seems like a waste of fire power?

I guess what I am trying to say is the WoC creeps me out when playing ogres! ; )

Belchers are great in combat against cheap infantry with little armor, but they will eventually lose combat and then they wont be steadfast - be careful or use the stubborn sig. spell.

Good luck!

Just deploy close to the table edge against armies like WoC.  That gives you another turn of shooting before combat.  it also helps to screen your LBs with gnoblars with trappers upgrade.

Move up the gnoblars and wheel them when the enemy gets close so they can't overrun into your LBs.  WoC really doesn't like trappers.
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
Shooty lists are really where Firebellies shine IMO. That added bit of firepower (no pun intended) is really all the belchers need in order to make their small-medium sized impact to a medium-large size impact.

The lore of fire is really a great synergy with Leaddies. It can boost them, make units stay stationary, remove chaff, kill regen, and some others. Really, the big issue here is that your leaddies are max lvl 2, whereas in 2000 and up games you're bound to see a lvl 4 pop up at least once. This is where things get difficult, because now you have to worry about the cost benefit of bringing offensive magic items or defensive.

A Healheart would be an awesome gamble. One Firebelly nuking system. Issue relies in him getting close enough to the casters while staying back with the leaddies... and the HH isn't always that reliable.

A quick list I just threw together:
Bruiser BSB - Crown o' Command, Dragonhelm, Luckstone, HA, IF
Firebelly General - RRoR, Dispell Scroll, Lvl2

7 Ironguts - Full Command, Standard of Discipline
3 Bulls - XHW
3 Bulls - XHW

6 Leaddies
6 Leaddies
8 Leaddies
2x1 Sabres

Ironblaster
1997 pts

Cons first:
Firebelly general (low ld and survivability), No defensive boost on Ironguts, only 2 sabres... :P

Pros:
Firebelly IMO much better than lvl 2 Maw, combat support with enough shooting to be considered shooty list, 2 sabres...

Suggestions: Another lvl 2 Firebelly somehow
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!
I think scrap launchers are a must for a shooty army as are sniper maneaters at higher points.

Fire belly on a magic carpet might be a good option for this list.

Slaughtermaster with heavens is likewise a nice choice.
Well, if you wanna run a really shooty list, have all your core be Gnoblars ;) (they have throwing weapons!)

So, what if, you say, did this:

Firebelly General - Ruby Ring of Ruin, D-Scroll

10x10 Gnoblar Trappers (yeah you read that right) - 500

3x6 Leadbelchers - Musician in each ( comes out to 804)
3 Maneaters - Poison Sniper with BoP and Mus (I believe that's 196?? don't have my book with me)

2 Ironblasters - 340

No BSB, because you're only going to be shooting anyways. Plus, no sabres needed to redirect, as you will have enough gnobs to muddle up the field. Put the FBelly with the Maneaters, and you're golden ;)

...

That being said, I dunno if this will be any sort of an effective list. But, if you're looking for fun, this should cover that!
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

43/101 Achievements earned! Woo! Got some of the tricky ones!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

Thanks guys :)

He is taking WoC so I think I will leave my shooty list for this game ;)
Got his girlfriend to ask him ;) All is fair in love and war! :)
As for the 10x10 Gnoblars I think that may upset him a little having all those dangerous terrain tests lol

If he has the habbit of running loads of marauders, go with the MFC.  If he is a chaos warrior fan then go with the ME with AhW and a few GW in the second rank.
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
