original thread ↗

I am looking for a little help.  This is my first foray into ogres but own all other amrmies bar DE.

I have picked up an assortment of figures and am looking to build a vanilla army rather then pure fluff or a tourney winning uber stomper.

Reading the site I have started with the list below and would like a crtique plus where the next 500 points should go when I expand.

Hi and welcome!

There should be a lot of other lists around the forum about how to build up a new Ogre army starting at 1000-1500 pt. For ogres that point range is a bit difficult so I'd advise you to read a few other threads to get an idea of the comments people get.

Going from other infantry armies to ogres, a good rule of thumb is that when counting models in a unit divide your normal unit sizes by 3.5 and you will get a good indicating for the 'size in ogre models'.

For 1500 pt too many points will go into characters resulting in too few units in the army. All the units you have included are superb and would be good candidates to be expanded as you move towards 2000 pt.

So without being too specific I'd consider a Slaughtermaster light version - maybe go lvl3 and skip the items besides a dispel scroll and a gw - and then keep him out of the worst combats.

The love the sniper-poison man eaters but in a unit of 3-4 they wont be able to proper character snipe (a unit of 6 is the magical number to aim for) so in 1500 pt Id change their ability to stubborn/scout/shiftstride (pick any 2 and the 3 guys will rock out). Shiftstride increase their average charge distance from 13" to 15.5" and increases the likelihood of a 10+ charge roll for d3 impact hits/model. scout allow the perfect deployment on the flank - excellent with the mournfangs! Stubborn is... stubborn... sometimes you just roll poorly and lose a combat although when you get the ogres in combat they dish out pain.

the points free'd up from the man eaters and the SM can be used for more iron guts - these guys are expensive and die fast but are so worth it!

Good luck and enjoy!
