Can anyone recommend an easy recipe to approximate the old (1ed) Ogre skin

Hey all, I'm a WFB newbie and a really slow, beginner painter.  I've joined a 'Paint and Grow' league to finally get off my butt and build a WFB army, and I'm going with Ogre Kingdoms.  I got the old pre-release army box years ago and am using that as my base.  Maybe that's why I really want to paint my guys in that old greyish tone? 

Regardless, I'm not too hot a painter.  I was hoping you folks might be able to recommend a fairly easy paint scheme that would come close to that old look?  As I said I'm still just a beginning painter, so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit to make things simpler.  But a nice basecoat/highlight/wash scheme that would get near that color would be really great.

I've never found two old school skin tutorials that were exactly the same but what could be used, in order from base coat to highlight, is Graveyard Earth, Commando Khaki and/or Bleached Bone (basically browns with no red to them) mixed with Codex Grey (a browner grey lacking any blue if I remember). If you don't already know all these paints have different names now but equivalent lists are just an internet search away. A typical wash used was what is now Reikland Fleshshade but it has a red tint to it so you may like Agrax Earthshade better.

I wish I could be more specific but it may take some test painting on your part with these various colors to see what looks best to you. I had to spend an hour or so testing color combinations until I found what I liked. I'd tell you my mix but you can see from my avatar picture it's not what you're looking for.

it is more skin tones but hopefully you'll find some of it useful.

Doing base colors, wash, highlight works. For fast ogre skin I have done the dark base color (brown, grey your pick) and then drybrushed a lighter tone over before applying my wash - the drybrush is not fantastic though and I highly recommend you to retouch a lot of highlights afterwards.

But you may be able to see how the paint gets a bit "grinded" on the bigger surfaces.

I use Dheneb Stone, Agrax Earthshade/Devlan Mud, Kommando Khaki to smooth it out again, then some Ogryn Flesh around the eyes and lips.

Managed to find this on a web search:

3:1 mix of graveyard earth and shadow grey. highlighted by adding kommando khaki. keep adding KK and then wash the recesses with Scorched brown.

Shadow Grey is now The Fang, and Graveyard Earth is Steel Legion Drab. Or at least that's their equivalents. Oh, and Khommando Khaki is now Karak Stone and scorched brown is Rhinox Hide.
