Those special moments

original thread ↗

The other day, I was against High Elves. Amidst the usual chaos of our wizards both violently imploding and units failing charges, something magical happened.

A small unit of swordmasters with a wizard was moving down my right flank. All I had was a pack of three yhetees, one of which was wounded. In desperation, I charge, and was lucky enough to then get a trollguts off on them.

Come the combat, I swallow nervously, and the high elf guy rolls for fear... and fails.

We check the BSB. 14" away.

At this point I cringingly tell the High Elf player about the Yhetee's aura of frost, as well as their other rules. He then, with a weary sigh, points out that his wizard is wearing that magic cloak that makes him immune to non-magical attacks, and curses his luck.

8 dead High Elves and no wounds back later, he then takes his steadfast break test... and fails.

Swiftstride sorts them out.

So, anyone else had one of those moments where the stars align and something epic happens?
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
I was playing with my Goblins vs. Brettonians. It was the final turn of the game and I was down by about 150pts, with no real chance of getting points out of combats. My opponent had a unit of Knights of the Realm (5 rank'n'file left) with a Damsel and his BSB. They had overrun directly past my unit of 25 common goblins with short bows, so I decided what the heck and took my pot-shots. I managed to score 3 wounds with 10 shots, then his armor saves came up TRIPLE ONES! This left 2 rnf Knights and the two characters. I had a Spear Chukka staring down their flank. Rolled, hit, wounded, he failed his Blessing Ward. Next model, wound, fails his Blessing. The unit is now wiped out and I've got a S4 hit against the Damsel. Wound, fails his Blessing, roll 2 wounds and kill her. Common Goblin shooting won me that game. o.0 Both my opponent and I were flabbergasted.

Had a different game with the Gobbos where I was playing against Daemons. Was throwing all of my artillery at the Keeper of Secrets but couldn't even put a wound on it. Kept rolling 1's to wound with the Lobba or he kept making his Ward saves. Finally, turn 3, right before he's about to commit the monstrosity to battle and probably slaughter half my battleline, I get a hit with the Doom Diver. Roll 6 hits, wound with 5 of them (needing 5+ to wound), and he fails every single Ward save. K.O.!
