My opponent denied me one of my rank bonuses claiming all characters can't be a rank. I didn't' argue but after a quick search I think he is wrong. Ranks are formed by models according to the rules, right?

Correct :) Therefore, a rank composed entirely of characters, still counts...

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Yep. You can have a rank of characters. Even a unit of characters.

your rank of characters does count as your first rank. Just because they are not RnF models they are still part of the unit. In that same respect if you had a 3x4 unit of ogres with 3 characters in it set up thusly -
 
I - I - C                             C - C - C
I - I - C    Rather than          I - I - I
I - I - C                               I - I - I
I - I - I                                I - I - I
 
Following those same rulings neither block would be able to claim a rank bonus because there is not enough RnF per rank. Seems a bit silly doesn't it?
So in answer to your question (as far as I am aware) is your characters count towards your rank bonus.

It seemed obvious to me, what threw the debate was the row of ALL characters. No one in my groups has ever seen a row of all characters including me.
