2000pts Vs Brets

original thread ↗

Hey guys. First off I will apologise this Bret army is all from memory! oh dear... ;)
Ive e-mailed my buddy and asked for a copy... so I will update appropriately :)
Ogres - (I'm sorry ive never ran a hoard before and I was curious!)
SM - Gruts, Level 4, Dispel Scroll - Maw
Bruiser - BsB, AoD
Butcher - Crown Of Command, Level 2 - Heavens
21x Iron Guts - Discipline, Standard, Bellower, Champ (ran 7x3 +3 spare)
4x MFC - DHB, Banner, Muso, HA, IF

Brets (from memory until I get a reply)
2x Paladin - 1 Bsb, other WS10 armour and +1S Sword I believe.
Damsel- Level 2, Dispel Scroll
3x9 KotR Full command
6 Grails
2x9 Knights Errant
20 Men at arms
20 bows
Treb
close enough... I think :P

Anyway we rolled and I deployed first. Sat my MASSIVE hoard on the left flank (plan was to keep my flank protected with the table edge until the first charges went off) and MFC Centre table incase they needed help. (Silly to think I thought they might need help...) He set up, grails, damsel, Knights Errant, 2x KotR, 20 bows, treb all on same side as my ogres. Then 1x KotR and errants on the other side to challenge my MFC with the men at arms.
We rolled for first turn and he won... so he prayed... +5 ward sucks.
Rolled for magic -
SM - Guts, Toothcracker, Braingobbler, Maw
Butcher - Blizzard, Convergence
Damsel - Dwellers, Flesh to Stone

Turn 1 - Ogres
Movement -
I moved my ogres up 10" to provoke charges while remaining at a distance (kind of) MFC moved up 8" so as to "threaten" the knights movement without being at much risk of being charged T1.
Magic - Rolled 6+2
2 Diced Braingobbler and got 5+6 with my level "6". He let it through and I cast it on his archer unit causing them to flee, making the treb flee also. (bad set up on his part, didn't think he expected it) Troll guts 4 diced with +7 to cast now and got it off easily he rolled 5 dice to dispel and failed. 2 Diced Tooth cracker on my guts aswell and got it off easily again. So T5, 4++ Guts :) :)

Turn 1 - Brets
Movement -
Grail knights, KotR, Knights Errant all got successful charges on my guts. other KotR didn't make it. 2" short I believe :P Rallied archers, moved the other unit of archers up to threaten a flank next turn. Marched his Men at arms towards my MFC WELL within charge distance. then angled both his knight units to threaten my charge... Don't know why he didn't just move them...
Magic - Rolled 5-1
5 Diced Flesh to stone and I failed to dispel. 4x 1's seriously!? So that went on his KotR with General (paladin with WS10)
Combat -
Paladin goes first and deals 1 wound. (haha) then after every unit attacked (including ponies) I realised I had I3 characters ;) So I took 3 wounds total. lost 1 ogre :( Attacks back I rolled VERY poorly and killed 4 Ponies total! :( Lost combat and passed my Stubborn re-rollable leadership on 1-1! :)

Turn 2 - Ogres
Movement -
Swift reform on MFC because I didn't want to charge into a massive pincer lol. Had an idea he would elect to flee with his Men at arms anyway. So marched 16" towards the "big" combat. (he didn't expect that, as I am usually VERY aggressive with my MFC)
Magic - Rolled Double 6! :)
3 Dice on tooth cracker, he lets it go (saving for Guts) 3 Dice on convergence... Dispel scroll. 4 Dice at guts... Irresistible. meh! rolled 5 and lost a wound on 1 ogre killed two ponies! :) and lost my remaining dice :P He wasn't too chuffed lmao.
Combat -
He strikes first and kills off another ogre, 3 wounds total. (doesn't have charge bonus this turn)
I strike back and kill 5 KotR, 5 Grails, 7 Errants :) So by this point ive caused 1/3 of wounds done with gruts sickle! lol. Damsel runs 11", Grail runs 5", General runs 6" I pursue general and over run 7" getting both general and grail.
Turn 2 - Brets
Movement -
Fails to rally Damsel and she sits on table edge (1" away... so close)
He reforms remaining KotR and marches behind my MFC. Errants march up also. Men at arms follow suit.
Charges archers into my flank, charges KotR into my front (of ogres that is)
Magic -
Cant do anything, his damsel is running for the hills.
Shooting -
He can fire his treb this turn because it failed leadership test on T1 :)
It scatters off the Mfc and lands 2" from his Knights :P
Combat -
Make way with Bruiser to front corner to attack archers. Kill 6 archers removing rank bonus, receiving no wounds. KotR do nothing and I butcher 6 with my guts. attacking with 3 ranks of guts is devastating!
He failed leaderships, archer run off side of table with a 12! and KotR flee 8". I choose to re-form and pass Ld test. Turned to face the remaining knights ignoring the treb and unit of archers sitting idle. (plan was to brain gobbler them again while they were in range) Ld6 and 3" from table edge ;)

Turn 3 - Ogres
Movement -
Swift re-formed Mfc into 2x2 formation. I don't this to move out of his front arc of KotR while keeping them in mine.I moved forward enough that his knights would block his own charge from the errants :)
Ogres marched forward preventing them from re-forming and moving out of MFC's charge arc. They move forward MFC get flank, they move back ogres get charge :P
Magic - Rolled 4-4
Brain gobbler on archers and they ran off table. Treb failed Ld again and could not shoot next turn. Threw dice at guts and tooth cracker for a laugh :)

Turn 3 - Brets
Movement -
Moved KotR forward and decided MFC were less dangerous than ogres :P (forgot his BsB was in this unit)
Errants moved around the side, MaA marched towards ogres.

Turn 4 - Ogres
Charged MFC into KotR, Charged ogres into MaA with an 11.

*** Opponent conceded ***

Let me know what you think of the batrep
( I don't do many and any tips/pointers would be helpful! )
Like I said, ive never ran a hoard before and tbh I wont again as it was particularly disgusting! :) :P

I do however have a few questions from the battle if someone would be happy to help?
1) Do ogres get impact his on an over run (say I clipped another unit like the KotR that charged me T2, I was 2" out)
2) Can I cast Brain Gobbler from combat? (I don't think so) sorry Im still relatively new to fantasy :P
3) Do I get stomps against Cav? ( I didn't take any because I didn't check the BRB, just assumed I didn't)
And now I don't have it to hand ;) :P ... Using store copy mine had a fight with my paint! :( The paint
    won...
4) Can you charge through your own units?

Wow you have a fantastic memory! I too am relatively new to fantasy but this is my understanding
1) An overrun is a pursuit move and is treated the same. This counts as a charge so you do get impact hits but resolved in the next round of combat (unless the new enemy is already in close combat and hasn't been resolved, just like a normal pursuit).
2) As Brain Gobbler is a hex, you can cast it into a unit in combat and you may cast it from combat. It is magic missiles you cannot fire from combat.
3) Yes you can, you can stomp anything!
4) No you cannot charge or move through your own unit. Neither can you come within one inch of them unless you do a charge past them. Units must always remain 1 inch apart.

Hope this helped! My only slight criticisms of the BR is that it is too detailed about what happened. Maybe rather than explaining each roll, maybe just do resolution. Sorry to be critical about your efforts.
Thank you for the criticism :) I noted each of the rolls... just not the army list. doh!

As for the stomp question. I looked it up in the BrB and we don't :(
