40K Ruins bases

original thread ↗

So, I have had a Tau army for about 2 years now, and with the new book and all, I decided I should probably get to some painting and basing. I want to go for a long, drawn out city fight, so I'll be painting them in the blueish grey armor that's featured on the Sa'cea Sept fire warrior in the old rulebook.

Now, I'm trying to come up with ideas for bases. The basics include Firewarriors with rocks and rubble all over the base, but I do plan on getting the Riptide and the new commander. Anyone have ideas for 'destroyed city building' rubble for bases that large?

I was almost thinking, since the Riptide is so poseable (and huge), of having it pushing over a wall that it was hiding behind with it's shield arm and aiming with it's other arm, while looking like it's walking out from behind/around the rubble it's knocking over... with blast marks and such all over it.

For the new commander suit, I was thinking of having it look like it was jumping out of a window or such.

Comments? Concerns? Funny noises?

You could look in the basing kit for the smaller models, use flint and bits of barbed wire to look like debries from blow out buildings. As for the larger models maybe look into some of the building kits such as the manufactorium (don't really know what the others are called) These usually have windows to leap out of and walls to shelter behind.

Also the plastic is quite maleable so you can really bash it about and make it look shot up with girders poking this way and that. You could also do the riptide hunkering down behind a blown out tank chassis on an urban road (if the base is that big?) or kicking it/stamping on it - or another cool idea might be having a building on the base and the riptide just poking its ion cannon through a window at some marines or summin - depends on your budget really

Anyway id defo go with one of the building kits you will get so much out of it you could base your whole army and then some with one kit,

Cheers,

The GW buildings is definitely where I was leaning (I'm just broke, so that'll have to wait)

A friend of mine suggested cardboard, but I think if it's something I'll be placing on a base permanently, I think I'd like it to look at least a little professional...

I really like your idea of stomping on a tank, or maybe a walker or a couple of Marines...just need some money for marines or a walker or a tank. Hahaha :P

Thanks for the input TLK!

The riptide striding out from behind a building sounds ace :)

As far as standard rubble bases go, if you were to make a couple of masters/originals, I could probably cast them in resin en masse :) As I have recently discovered with my Cityscape Vostroyan IG army, it is a damn sight cheaper than keep forking out for basing kits :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
oooOOOooo, that sounds interesting....I may take you up on that offer at some point. It'll be a little bit, due to funds being low after upstate NY's killer winter months (darn you oil heating!!!!), but we'll see...
