Gnoblog of an Aspiring Ogre Painter

Started an Ironbalster this weekend and wanted to share my efforts.  C&C are always welcomed.

Definitely a model that needs to be painted in pieces.  I started with the cart, here it is basecoated:

Applied some washes to the cart, some highlights/scratches to the metal and hooked up the wheels.

Rhinox is next....still need detail work, but I will finish that after assembly.

The big tusks were next.  I primed them white and then hit them with sepia shade.

Blending and feathering are techniques I struggle with, so I just used some bone over the wash.  Here how it is coming, I am fairly happy with the effect so far.

Looking great so far mate! I was a little unsure of how light your initial basecoat on the wood was, but the wash has turned out great!

I also struggle with the feathering technique, but think your alternative is fantastic! I think I will have to borrow the idea

First tusk almost done, just need to weather the metal.

Working on the second tusk, got the canon based and washed.

I really like how the model is coming along now! I think the light ivory colour of the tusk creates a great contrast against the colour of the Rhinox and the chassis

Gnoblar in place, both tusks done (need to scratch up metal) with right tusk attached...starting to come together.

I like the bright colors of the chassis - did you apply more than one type of wash?
I am a bit sad of how dark my chassis ended up - takes a lot of contrast away.

The big tusk can be done without bleeding. From a grey'ish brown undercoat. I painted each 'section' of horn 2/3 of the way toward the end of each section with bleeched bone in thin stripes parallel to the tusk. It creates a good worn horn - if that is what you wanted : )

I look forward to see how you do the cannon..

Thanks for sharing your picture, no apology needed.  That tusk looks awesome.  I was going for a more ivory look, more like the GW picture.

For the chasis I based it with Zandri dust and then just did a couple of washes with Agrax Earthshade.

Got all the additional accessories primed and based last night.  Hopefully I can finish them all up tonight and get the ogre based.

This is coming along very nicely! I like your painting style - very clean and neat, which is just what I'm attempting myself at the moment! Looking forward to seeing this progress!

Just a couple more little details...but for the most part done

Looks great - the dark colored metal gives a good contrast to the model.

Painting some Ogres using Army Painter's Flesh Primer as base coat. Started with the primer then shaded the flesh with Agrax Earthshade.

The only question I have; is why are the tips of the horns a darker colour than the rest? Sorry if I have missed the answer to this already

In nature if horns get to a certain length (usually bordering on too long) they go a darker colour, google some yak horns and you might find an example from them, thats why many warhammer horns by eavy metal are like that just some hyper realism

Thanks, I appreciate that.  Good luck with it.  Don't let it intimidate you.  Take it slow and work it in pieces.  Great model and I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.  Cheers.

The model is very special and I can see why opinions would differ. I like it, maybe because it is special : )
