I played high elves the other day at around 3000 or 3500 and i decided that i wanted to take a goofy list. He did as well so it was pretty fun. Both of us took things we had never tested before, so it was interesting.
I can't remember exact lists, but this is in the general area.
I ran a tyrant with 2 lvl 1 FBs. Tyrant was lightly equipped. FBs had Dis Scroll and HH.
Hunter running with some cats.
Bruiser, bsb light equipment
2 units of 12 bulls full command
1 unit of 8 leadbelchers, mus
1 unit of 6 maneaters, poison swift stride
6 Yhetees
1x3 kitties and a large unit as well
2 ironblasters
several units of gnoblars
He had
Lvl 4 mage, etherial
prince on eagle
noble on eagle
noble on eagle
noble on eagle
bsb on eagle
50 spearment
30 whitelions
20 whitelions
30 archers
maybe some other stuff.
This fight seemed like i was going to die from the start. I had 2 lvl 1 mages going up against a HE mage that was accompanied by a banner of sorcery. He was using death magic on me...
It was the closest and most stressful game i have ever had in my life. I had to let little spells go and save for p-sun and the -1 S -1 T spells. One ironblaster blew up 1st turn, and he had completely out maneuvered me with 5 characters on eagles. Somehow, i managed to keep his magic in check the entire game. I used the hellheart but he had an item that absorbed the 1st miscast. He later rolled 2 miscasts on chaff spells and got sucked into the warp. The game came down to a combat with my tyrant, a FB and my bulls getting hammered by: A prince on eagle in the front, a diminished group of white lions on my right flank, and 2 nobles on eagles in the rear. I was getting beat badly in this combat, but steadfast was keeping me there. I finally got an ironblaster to charge and kill an eagle. I finally killed his white lions, and the other eagle broke. We called the game after I won that last combat. All he had left was his prince, bsb and a remnant of his other unit of white lions. I had 1 tyrant, 1 fb, 2 bulls, 1 iron blaster, 2 yhetees, hunter, maneaters. That one combat went on for 4-5 rounds and had he been able to break that unit, i would have been toast. I was hindered though, because i brought a weak tyrant and his lord had a 2+/4++ and all i had was +1 to hit and a 3+ save. He got 4 wounds on me and i got 2 wounds on him in that challenge.
With only lvl 1 wizards against HE, i thought i would get creamed, but I managed to pull out a victory in a REALLY long and hard fought game.
