Mighty empires

original thread ↗

Friends and I are looking at starting some sort of campaign system. Looking closely at mighty empires currently but as I play ogres I have a few questions.

Is ME rules setup to be inline with 8th edition and if not would playing ogres put me at a big disadvantage?
Also other than ME what campaign style systems does everyone recommend running?

When we run the ME campaign we did our own house rules mixed with some ideas from the Generals' Compendium. I would recommend Blood in the Badlands if you get a hold of a copy because there are tons of ideas to use. The basic booklet in ME is way too basic for my taste but I suspect as a starter it works.

I played Ogres in the campaign (and have played Empire before that).

I would definitely echo Shadowlord on getting the Blood in the Badlands book. It is a little pricey IMHO, but totally worth it, because it has some great ideas for campaigns and thematic games.

I like ME, but have only ever played them once.

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
We combined 2 sets of ME to rebuild the map from the "Blood in the Badlands" book.
In two weeks our campaing is finished and we are already dicussing lots of rules we do not like or want to change.

I am playing my ogres and haven't lost a single game.
This may have something to do with us playing at 1000 pts, where most armies are struggling to field an army which works.

ME is a nice simple and quick campaign to run and can be fun in developing your own map too.  The Blood in the Badlands is a great campaign setting too but is slightly more involving (but not too bad).  If you want a campaign with substance I suggest Border Princes (I believe it's from General's Compendium).  You might have a hard time finding it though unless someone at your hobby center already owns it.

I think Ogres are a pretty viable army as they do well in small and larger games.  They are still highly competitive with enough variety in the book to be able to adjust to pretty much any campaign setting.

Thanks for the replies, we have just put the order in for the ME set so it is on its way.....kinda excited now, maybe this will spark a few of the lazy people I play with to paint some more minis

I still own a copy of the General's compendium. There are many great ideas in that to make a very interesting campaign. That being said, since the rules taken from 6th edition, it needs a little tweaking. Ogres aren't even in there yet.
I'm working on my own set of rules inspired from the Border Princes Campaign in that book. Just gotta convince some players to play with me now :>(
Armies played: Ogre Kingdoms and Lizardmen
Record in 8th :         W  /  L  /  D
Ogre Kingdoms:        9  /  2  /  0
I run a campaign oriented group here and we switch back and forth between Mighty Empires, Blood in the Bandlands, Boarder Princes, and my own General's Compendium inspired Games Mastered campaign with my own 20 page campaign rulebook.  The GM campaign is heavily involved and usually lasts for 14-18 months with just about anything you can think of involved from trade to casualty replenishments, to seasons!  It's a great setting and we have a lot of fun but you have to have really dedicated players involved.

This, a gazillion times this.

Without serious interest from players it will just fail.
