New to ogres and to the forum

original thread ↗

Hello everyone,

So ive done it, just bought 2 battalion boxes and a codex.  Also i figured id join the forum and get in on the action.  Looking forward to getting the army on the table!
Army book* 40k noob!

welcome btw
Haha, army book I mean, and thanks!
First off welcome to the Stronghold, always nice to have another ogre on the team. Secondly, to help build your army I would recommend a firebelly, ironblaster and depending on your preference a tyrant or slaughtermaster. Almost forgot you NEED a Battle Standard Bearer (BSB) that ensures the survival of your army. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask just be sure to read the rules before you ask, so you can clarify what doesn't make sense. Hope I didn't sound too bossy.

Welcome to the forum!

Definitely get an Ironblaster! With that and the Battalion boxes you're set to go for a solid start, other then characters.

Also, I don't mean to toot my own horn, but if you want to learn more about the different units in the book and the tactical choices for them, do have a browse through the tactica index. There's plenty of good information and discussion - largely by folk smarter then I.

Lol Goretooth "yes dad"... :P
As for Monikers post, yes read the tactica. Im assuming you've come from 40k? am I correct in this assumption? :) me too :P Space puppy's all the way! :)
As for your dual battalion set, Nice!
what points level do you think you will play at? 2000pts?
I recommend getting 1-2 Iron blasters, Some Mournfang cav, and a Pack of fenrisian wolves for your Sabre tusks :) As for your characters you can make them ALL from a box of normal ogres with some minor green stuff skills and some imagination :) You know what an apron looks like? well theres a butcher and slaughter master, Mash together 3 ironfists and you got a funky mace/hammer and grab a shield/helm - Tyrant. Buy a Pyre troll from privateer press and take its hands and fireball and stick them on 2 ogres, 2 firebellys!... Everything in the ogres book can be made from a basic ogres box with some imagination and work :) Its why I love em' :)

But my no1 tip is make sure you remove mould lines, on some models you can leave them (Im looking at you skeltons) but on ogres because they are so big, the mould lines are proportionate :)

Thanks for the replys everyone,

@ Goretooth, not bossy at all, appreciate all the info!

@ Moniker, i have read your link a couple of times already and plan to read it a few more times.

@ Mcsheehy, i mostly play 40K but am tired of it, I have been collecting skaven for a while, but have only a few games in with them. My local store plays 3k for points, so it will take a little time to get to that points level.
