Empire

original thread ↗

Hi guys. So, I have come to that time of year where i want to start a new army. My next project Will be Empire. I like my ogres and the aspect of the army. But I want some of the things were missing out on. Horde blocks, fast cav, aces to All brb lores etc. Plus im getting tired of All the whining about ogres being OP ( i play with 2 stonehorn, hunter.. no HH, ironblster or anything cmon?) anywho. I dont really know what to include in an Empire army. So i just wanted to hear if any of you guys could give me some inputs and ideas of what to get for my new army?  Cheers :)

Well, Empire can have anything they want. It will all depend on your playstyle really.
Combat:
A few knight blocks with some empire greatswords and demigryphs are quite common.
Ranged:
cannons, mortars, crossbow-men and outstiders are quite common.
Magic:
Mage spam with large blocks of empire militia and hurricanums etc.
I agree that it depends on the play style you want.

All cav, infantry and combined arms work well. I wouldn't build the gunline though as just shooting isn't enough to deal with the size of units running around in 8th.
I'd check out www.warhammer-empire.com
My Armies:
Empire
Ogres
A buddy of mine plays a very rounded empire force with a bit of everything so he can handle everything. Pistoliers are amazing and really get under people's skin. And don't forget your captains and generals at home. A good tank set up with a large steadfast unit is nasty with cold-blooded.
I've dreamed of having enough money to start another army, and I'd run a priest-themed army (for my own reasons of course lol). But, yeah, Empire's kinda the "jack-of-all-trades" army that can either be slightly good at everything or REALLY good at one thing depending upon your build. Sadly, however, my experience on the battlefield with/against them is VERY limited, so I don't have much more to add beyond what's already been posted :P
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

43/101 Achievements earned! Woo! Got some of the tricky ones!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

Thanks for the replies guys, appritiate it. I think im gonna start out with the batallion and a wizard pack, seems like its a pretty good mix.

Empire with knights (and demigrifs) seems the way to go now. Of course the horde blocks with support with wagons and priests are awesome too.

All in all I like the army for its diversity and many uses.

Enjoy your new army - it will be great : )

for core, a large block of halberdiers +/- detachments and a group of inner circle knights are good.
shooting-wise, you'll want x2 cannons and a helblaster volleygun
for chaff, pistoliers and 5man archer detachments are good
for characters, you'll want a priest in every main fighting block (they are that good at buffing troops), a bsb and a high LD char, usually a grandmaster/arch lector, occasionally a general.
for combat, you'll want some demi gryphs and a stank to hold up deathstars.
for magic, a lvl4 /scroll is fine as priests can channel and have bound-spell buffs
Demigryphs, nuff said.  IMO the most broken unit in Warhammer.
The dude abides.
How are they broken? I haven't had any problems with them?

I've gotta say, whilst they are a solid unit, they are so very far from being broken. There are many units far more broken than Demigryph Knights. Our very own Ironblaster is more cheesy than they are. Not to mention the relatively imbalanced Skullcannon of Khorne.

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Really, haven't ever had any problems with them? How do you deal with them so easily?  What about when there is a priest and a hero in the unit?

In the light if what else the empire army can field, the grifs are not that broken : ) Although the 1+ AS with T4 is a bit rough for a lot of armies (Ogres incl.). The priest wont do much as the mount will not gain hatred or benefit from prayers... If the Walter is different is open for discussion as I see it.

The way i deal with them is, leadbelchers, man-eaters with pistols, ironblaster for the most part. But I have also had some luck with a beast SM, throwing amber spear and curse of anraheir at them. As for the priest in the unit, I have never faced that, but I can see it as a problem.

if you're worried about priests/heroes in a unit of griffs, point your iron blaster at them. they wont be getting a LoS save in a unit of DG's unless it is massive and the hero is on a pegasus (which priests cannot take)
Let a unit of ironguts run with 2 sabretusks.  Use the sabretusks to redirect the knights and get a charge off with your ironguts.  You will lose 2-3 guts or so, but they won't live through the barrage of S 6 that will pound them into the ground.
Or you can shoot them.  The thing is, don't let them charge.  Be smart with your redirectors and don't put units in front of them that can't take a beating.
The enemy of my enemy is my double enemy.

Assuming your Ironblaster(s) haven't been destroyed by canon fire.

ayup! ironblasters are at least mobile enough to get behind terrain though which is quite an advantage over the standard great cannon that empire have. yours has more wounds too
