Help with a Campaign list

original thread ↗

Down at my local, we are beginning the Crusade Of Fire, and to give my SM some love, I chose to play them.
Only thing is, I'm fairoy rusty with Space Marines. I have a good few models, but missing out on essentials like:
Vindicators
Command Squads
Devastator Squads
Land Speeders
Whirlwinds.
So as you can probably guess, list building is kinda hard. The rules of the campaign are:
1: All units that survive must be bought in the next game, with the same equipment etc.
2: No Special Characters
3: Minimal Proxies
4: Points will ascend from 1000, to 1250, to 1500, to 2000, to a team 2250 each Apocolypse match.
I was thinking of this list, but allas, I don't feel it's very good:
Captain (Have to take one for Warlord and campaign reasons)
Artifcer Armour, Power Sword, Combi-Flamer (135)
10 Tactical Marines with Flamer and Missile Launcher. Seargent has a Power Fist.
10 Tactical Marines with a Meltagun and a Missile Launcher. Seargent has a boltgun and chainsword. (360)
1 Predator with TL Lascannons, and bolter sponsons (130)
But there I am stuck. What else would be good in later games but fill holes in this one? Any help would rrally be appreciated and gnoblers may be given...
Hey dude im a couple of years Space MArine veteran, heres what I'd suggest for you
I would take a swap  captains power sword and flamer for a
 - relic blade and plasma pistol, +2 str at your initative makes you wound most things on 2+ instead of 4+, and pp str 7 ap2 is works wonders on light vechiles and other 3+ (marines or chaos) models and most stuff its wound on a 2+ and it rarley ever overheats.
 - or storm shield and power sword, 2+ save 3+ invunerable and this guy can go toe to toe with almost anything, but i would advise sacrificing your iniative for a thunder hammer or power fist - you can weather attacks with them saves then you can really dish the hurt to anything (insta killing anything t4 [if that still exists] or tear apart vechiles)
- either way I would get rid of combi flamer, flamers are truly apalling imo, youre better off with pot shotting a melta gun at an armoured vechile.

Power fists are great in tactical squads to punch characters or 2+ save attackers on the nose or to tear the rear armour off anything - 2 attacks actually goes along way!

If you can afford it take a plasma cannon and plasma gun on each tactical squad, this gives some tough killing power on nearly anything. Missile launchers are a nice idea but in reality they suck pretty bad - the krak if shot a vechile wastes the squads bolter fire, if shot at troops it will kill 1 max and a str 4 frag will cause like 2 wounds if that.

If you have the model id sponson lascannons onto the pred as this gives it some serious anti tank firepower - h bolters are nice but are wasted if you fire at a tank.

So Captain with that load will help you in a combat mash up
Tactical squads can hold objectives and lay down dome serious anti infantry fire power
Lascannon pred can pop tanks - and if this bad boy goes down you still have anti tank combat skills

For something to add to the list in later games I would defo go for some terminators to run your captain in, these guys are as tough as nails with power weapons getting nurfed - go for thunderhammer and storm shields these guys are arguably the best unit in the game and can take iotas of punishment.

Another pred would be usufull to as 2 tanks is really 4 x the tank as the enemy tank has to kill twice as much and deal with twice the fire power.

A land raider to ferry your terminators and captain into combat and shoot stuff (land raider crusader) would also be mint.

A dreadnaught for 100 points it scares the daylights out of people and if you get it into combat with a squad that can hardly damage it you can sit there and grind the unit down.

Devastators with 4x heavy bolters are also tasty as they can punish any unit by making them take alot of saves.

Anyway hope this helps you out, if you post a quick list of models you have to use I might be able to tailor some advice to that instead of just dreaming up good combos ;D Anyway dude hope this helped and best of luck in the Campaign (:

TLK!
Wow! Tghanks a million! +1 Gnob for you! I have a good few SM models, but rarely used any, so here goes:
Pedro Kantor
x2 Captains/Chapter Masters
2 Chaplains
2 Librarians
Techmarine
4 Servitors
30 Tactical Marines
15 Terminators
7 S.S+T.H Terminators
5 Assault Marines
5 Jump Vanguard Veterans
10 Sterngaurd/Vanguard Veterans
Thunderfire Cannon
2 Predators
Land Raider
Drop Pod
2 Dreadnoughts
Rhino
It's quite a large army, but that's because most of it was my first army and it was my Paint+Convert army. I play as Crimson Fists, so Power Fists and Plasma's and Termies are fluffy.
I must buy a box of Devastator marines. And a Vindicator. It seems these guys perform up and beyond their points value, plus their weapons would be good OSL practice. Once again, thanks a million for your advice and help.
