Legal questions...

original thread ↗

Figured this was the best place to post this, if not, mod please move to appropriate area.

So I've been going to school for programming and for my final I have to create a "database". I was thinking that since this is something that I'll have after the class is complete why not do an "army list creator" program. Now the thing that I'm questioning as far as legal goes is...

If I was to post this to a file sharing site, and make it available to this forum (and the world?!) would that be bad/wrong/cause me financial ruin?
It's pronounced E-No

Here's the other art I do. The majority of it all is with an iPhone too!
There are already a number of programs that do exactly this, that get sold to customers. So it is legal somehow, there is probably a lot of legal mumbo jumbo involved so you would need to look that up first.

If you wanted to be 100% legal, you could make a blank army list creator. One where the user has to manually put in all the possible entries and then save it. Sort of like an Excel template for a particular form.

Or you just have the army options with the point costs. So I could say I want a unit of 9 Ogre Bulls with Ironfists and a Banner Bearer and it would give me the point costs, but none of the rules. I would still need an army book.

That way you wouldn't be giving away the rules for free(which is the issue to avoid) and you would still give a useful too.
