ARMY COMPOSITION COMPETITION: 1000pts!!!! THE WINNERS!!!!!
Time for last army composition competition, now at 1000 pts!!!
The rules are the same as the other two (being changed deadline dates and, of course, pt values):
This is what you all have to do to enter the new competition: 1-post, by replying in this thread, your 1000 pts army list of Ogres (and not more than 1000 pts. Any army with more then 1000 pts will be deleted); 2-describe, briefly, what your tactic is going to be, by filling in the following fields: -where your characters are going to be placed; -what is the role of each unit/character; -what is your general tactic.
One post per person (and no edits of the posts: whoever edits his own post will be disqualified!!!) Posting will end November 27th).
When the competition is over, all members will PM me and tell the three armies they like the most and why. Voting will end December 11th.
The 3 most voted armies will be posted in a sticky thread named The best armies of the kingdom, and will be used as reference for all other members, along with the winners of the 2000 pt and 1500 pts competitions.
The winner will win a young and strong pet gnoblar, great for carrying around the BRB (possibly the heavy and big hard cover one) and the army case (possibly filled with lead miniatures: plastics are just too light).
So, start creating your army, and be ready, cos the last tactics competition is now officially open. Cheers
P.S. please, read the rules regarding posting the armies, and please find the time to fix the army, making it easy and simple to read (especially if you import it from armybuilder), before posting it in this thread.

Well, since no one else wants to go first I will throw up a good 1000 point list.
Heroes Bruiser - General, Great Weapon, Heavy Armor (Usually, in small points games, you can get away without having a luck gnoblar so I have taken him out. I gave him a great weapon so that he can hunt chariots against those pesky Druchii and Khemri)
Butcher - Dispel Scroll, Bang Stick (The bound spell should allow you to get off 2ish spells per turn against even the most mage heavy armies.)
Core 3 Bulls - Naked (These guys are hardy against most other core troops but are small enough in points value to sacrifice in a flank or to redirect a charge.)
3 Ironguts - Banner, Lookout Gnoblar (Joined by one of the heroes, this unit can hold your main battle line.)
3 Ironguts - Banner, Lookout Gnoblar (Joined by one of the heroes, this unit can hold your main battle line. Should concentrate on taking out heavy troops if your Bruiser is here)
3 Ironguts - Naked (This unit can also hold the main battle line and takes on medium troops)
8 Gnoblar Trappers (March block, protect flanks, annoy the other player and perhaps take a table quarter at the end of the game.)
21 Gnoblar Fighters (Screen versus shooting and be an all around speed bump. If you like even battle lines you can change out that last model for a unit champion.)
Total: 999 Points Core makes up 67.8% of your points so you should scopre well in composition against any opponent and you should be prepared to meet most things on the battle field.
This thread is worthless without pictures

Alright, I know Im a lizzie player and still new to Ogres (don't have the army book yet ) but I love this guys and thought Id help out your contest a bit by adding another list. Here goes.
Characters:
Bruiser 169pts Heavy Armor, Siegebreaker, 1x Luck Gnoblar
Butcher 150 pts 1x Dispel Scroll
Core:
3 Bulls 115pts Musician
4 Bulls 150pts Musician
3 Ironguts 204pts Musician, Standard, Lookout Gnoblar, War Banner
20 Gnoblar Fighters 40pts
20 Gnoblar Fighters 40pts
8 Gnoblar Trappers 48pts
Rare: 1 Gorger 75pts
Total: 1996pts
Tactics:
At the very frontlines of this army are the two Gnoblar fighter blocks, slightly off to the side leaving a small gap in the middle. These blocks can serve a dual purpose 1) Take the brunt of the big charges or 2) if the opponent ignores the wee 'uns, they can guard flanks since they're dirt cheap. Not far behind them is the 8 Trapper screen a good distance directly in front of the Ironguts at the center of the army. Flanking the Ironguts are the Bull units, one of them with the Butcher. These bull units are going to be slightly farther up however so they can get in the position for flank charges. And of course the Gorger will hopefully appear later in the game for either some basic warmachine hunting or to rear charge a big unit engaged with some of the ogres or gnoblars. This list is really basic but should hopefully be effective. The ogres themselves should be relatively safe from shooting with tons of gnoblars in front of them but far enough up so that the ogres have alot of breathing room to move around and get ready for some impact hit flank charges. The Ironguts will either take a good head on charge if the gnoblars dont get stuck in, or wheel around for a flank if the opprotunity is open. With the warbanner and the big ole Brusier they should be able to hold combat for a little while until some buddies can come around and flank. Psychology is big in this list since my Bruiser doesn't have any of the nifty items or Kineater to help in that department.
Good luck with the contest, hope you get alot more entires!

Crudgullet's Hamfists
Crudgullet Worldsplitter - Bruiser with a great weapon and heavy Armor - 142 points
Three Ogre Bulls - Musician - 115 points
Three Ogre Bulls - Musician - 115 points
Three Ironguts - Musician - 154 points
Three Ironguts - Musician - 154 points
Two Leadbelchers - Musician - 120 points
Two Leadbelchers - Musician - 120 points
Twenty Gnoblar Fighters - 40 points
Twenty Gnoblar Fighters - 40 points
In-Game Strategy With this force, I will seek to take advantage of my substantial numbers and speed in order to close the distance with my foe. The bruiser, paired with two units of bulls and gnoblars, will form a strong, adaptable center. The bruiser general will be deployed on his lonesome, but will always seek to stick with his bull and gnoblar entourage in order to make the best use of his improved leadership, as well as to aid in the avoidance of eneny shooting. The fact that he is on his own means he can reliably support any of these central units with a well timed combo-charge. By pairing his heavy attacks with the extra weight of another unit, he is sure to do to some damage to most enemy.
The flanks of my army are formed of two units of leadbelchers and two units of ironguts. These guys fill two roles. First off, the leadbelchers are there to blow away enemy support units, such as combat skirmishers, fast cavalry, lighter chariots, and spawn. The ironguts threaten the troops that the leadbelchers don't really present a threat to, troops like knights and such.
Once enemy support troops have been killed, waylaid, or otherwise neutralised, my flanking element closes on the center. Here, my four flanking units (each capable of negating rank bonuses with a flank charge) will have the ability to surround my opponent's unsupported and outmaneuvered troops. The large number of fast troops in my army also affords me another advantage. Against agressive armies, I have plenty of units that can bait and flee, and still have plenty of troops left to counter charge. The fact that every fast unit in my army comes equipped with a musician will aid in this endeavor.

As usual, I like to participate myself, so here's my 1000 pt army:
I opted for a butcherless army. It is something very different from my usual build, but I have been going through a "thinking-period", lately. I went for this build since: if I face khorne or dwarves, no single butcher can overcome all those magic resistance; if I face skaven or Tzeench or skinks or any other magic heavy army, there is no single butcher that can overcome all those dispell dice or those casting dice... so I went for 2 thifstones on the bruiser, who will join the 3 IG unit; and for the runemaw banner, that will redirect any spell on the near gnoblar unit. The 2 units of bulls will work as screens or flanking protection, according if I'll face slow armies or fast armies. The trappers were taken only for fluff reasons... I like to take them, and I always find a role for them, might it be marchblocking, quarter hunting, warmachine crew killing. I also went for a different deployment: not my usual deny flank, but, unless I see my opponent doing anything "funny" I plan in having the IGs in the center, flanked by the bulls.
cheers
P.S. edit: thanx Mr.Himmler for pointing out the error on the point value (even though it was pretty obvious) . ari-Cheers

1 Bruiser: Heavy Armor+Great Weapon= 142 1 Butcher: Skullmantle= 150
For the Bruiser, I usualy send him out on his own, flanking or causing distraction.
For the Butcher, he is alone as well, behind the lines augmenting ogres...I've found Braingobbler+Skullmantle= run away!!!! (go figure)

Tactica
Characters: The Bruiser General can join the first unit of three Bulls, but is more effective ran alone. If running him alone, always challenge, your Cathayan Longsword will enable you to stab enemy characters and unit champions full of holes, and with your Gut Maw on there's no reason to fear being wounded. He's probably the toughest hero on the field, and if you have a few turns before you charge use your handguns to light people up and as an additional hand weapon. He can also be used to hold up units for turns, preventing any unwanted flanks or rears on your units. Your general also makes some very tasty bait to certain enemies, but you should only flee with him if it provides a golden opportunity. The unit of three Bulls will be run as bait, place them in the middle of your formation. They should run ahead of your other units, attempting to draw a charge: flee with them as often as is safe. Try to get the opponent out of position to gang up on your units, the other two units of four Bulls won't fair well under pressure of a flank! Flank as often as you can, it's a must with this army. Gang up on one unit, try to smash through them in one or two turns. However, if you have a decision of charging one enemy unit in the flank and the front with two units of Ogres or charging two seperate enemy units, each in the flank, then take the latter! Your two units of four Bulls will flank as often as they can, but need to charge to avoid some hurt. Charge as often as possible. And as mentioned in the section on the General, use your brace of pistols!

Alrighty well i've never actually played a 1000pts army before but i thought i would give it a go, sounds like fun. haha. so here it is:
Bruiser: Heavy armour, Cathayan Longsword, Luck Gnob 147 pts.
Butcher - 130 pts Butcher: two theifstones - 160 pts.
well terrain permitting my centre would be deployed with a unit of bulls containing the itemless butcher and the unit of four ironguts with the Bruiser and butcher (theifstones). Iront guts deployed 3 to a rank thus giving them a secon line. i realize this doesn't give me any rank bonuses but may allow for a stronger bull charge and may aid in preventing being outnumbered, by having a higher unit strength. plus if the round of combat goes on, the bruiser hopefully will be able to strike with the cathayan longsword, and lessen the blow to the ironguts which will strike last. both butchers would be on the ends closest to each other, thus allowing gut magic to be cast on either unit (6" radius). The centre would be deployed the full 12 inches on with the 2 leadbelchers on the opposite side of the bulls. Marching forward first turn to close the gap and allow for them to release their cannons hopefully by turn two. and from there on play support for the unit of bulls with the butcher. The 25 gnoblars deployed next to the leadbelchers to aid in negating flank charges and adding numbers. to the opposite side of the ironguts would be the second unit of bulls deployed only 10" on and help in preventing flank charges from any enemy units. For magic perferably trying to get Trollguts or Toothcracker off in the first round. obviously not trollguts on the unit with magic resistance. but with two butchers it gives me 6 dice to try and cast spells with. hopefully get something off. and with 4 dispel dice plus my generals unit having magic resistance 2, hopefully be able to negate any magic targeted at units in a 1000 pt army. once in hand to hand, trying for trollguts and/or bullgorger especially to up the damage the bruiser can deal out with a +1 wpn skill if i could get +1 str off very good. Main idea is to get the centre units across the board as quickly as possible and lay some pain onto the enemy. hahaha.

Big Shaman (Butcher) Dispell scroll 155
3 Ironguts joined by Skulkraka Standard-Lookout Gnob 169
3 Ironguts joined by Big Shaman Standard-Lookout Gnob 169
4 Bulls XHW Bellower 166
23 Runtz 46
8 Sneaky Runtz 48
5 Fast Cavalry Spear Shield 80
1000pts Pd:4 Dd:3+1 Dispel scroll
The Runtz will be deployed first in a table quarter. The Bulls will be deployed straight infront of the enemies nastiest unit and will be flanked by the Fast Cavalry. But this will only be if the enemy deploys his nasty unit on a flank so one of his flanks are open.Otherwise the Fast cav will be deployed on the flank closest to the nasty unit. The IG´s will be deployed on the left OR the right side of the Bulls, with the IG´s with the "butcher" in the middle. The Sneaky Runtz (Trappers) will be deployed so that they will attack Warmchines (if they have any) or so they can run behind the lines of the enemy.
The deployment could be something like this:
Fast Cav-Bulls-Ironguts-Ironguts*-Runtz
*=Generals Unit
Movement: The Fast cav will ride upp behind the lines or stay on the flank of the nastiest unit, always threatening with a flank/rear charge and to the front of that unit the Bulls will be ready. So if the unit charges the Bulls, they will flee and the fast cav will have a opening for a rear/flank charge. The Ig´s will be able to hold their own. Everything will kinda move straight ahead. The Generals unit will be flanked with the Runtz (If they have time to catch upp).
Magic: All spells by the "butcher" will be cast with two dice, starting with the one i want to get off. Against Bretts or other armies with Heavy Cav i´ll start with the Bonecruncher and then follow upp with the Trollguts on his own unit. In every battle, every turn i will cast one hitty spell (Bonecruncher and Braingobbler) and one buff spell.
In theese small battles almost all of my units will be within the generals LD range.
Pet Gnoblars: Snikgit, Wasnuff and Watzit

Im relatively new to O K but this is my 1000 list anyway:
Heroes:
Bruiser- (General) 172 Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, 2x Gnoblar Thiefstones (Goes with Ironguts)
Butcher- 155 Bangstick (Goes with Ogre bulls with ironfists)
Trappers: The trappers in my army will be mainly used as a distraction or for march blocking a unit. I may also keep the enemys fire of my ogres for a turn or two
Bruiser: The Bruiser will be used for his leadership and his good magic resistance. He is also a great a great fighter and will be there to challenge there champions and heroes and rack up a few kills. Joining ironguts.
Butcher: The butchers magic will be used on the offense with the bangstick and 4 power dice. He will boost up the ogre units with toothcracker and trollguts while causing as much panic and damage as he can upon the enemy. Will join the ogre bulls with ironfists.
Ogre bulls (ones with ironfists): The ogre bulls along with the butcher will be used as a support unit and will still be able to take out the stronger units:
Ogre Bulls (naked): These ogres will be used as bait and screens and try to get the odd flank charge in if possible. Mainly used as a diversion.
Ironguts: The ironguts and the bruiser will be used as the hammer unit.
Leadbelchers: The leadbelchers will start on the flank and will deny any flankers and kill them. They should be able enough to take on any flankers as they are 3 ogres strong with cannons. They will also be used as flankers themselves if they get the chance and will kill the odd chariot or two from there shooting.
The tactic i will be using is have the leadbelchers deployed on a flank with the bulls with butcher in the centre with the bruiser with ironguts. The naked bulls will probaly be deployed on the opposite flank of the leadbelchers. In the following turns i will cast defensive spells on my ironguts, bruiser, butcher and bulls in the centre to hopefully prevent them from getting shot too much. The trappers will be harrasing any shooting units (hopefully getting a charge on one) and will be a nuisance getting in the way. If all goes well and my ogres arrive mainly unscathed i would have surrounded the player practically with the naked bulls on one flank the leadbelchers on the other and the butcher bruiser units in the centre. Then i will try charge in and wipe out everything.

Ok, end of competition: now START VOTING! Remember to PM me your 3 favorite armies, and why.
example: I like XXXX's army best, because I like the MSU tactic; I like YYYYY's army, second, because I like lot's of IGs; I like WWWW's as third, because I like lots of butchers.
(dunno... just some stupid reasons that slipped my mind... but I know you can come up with something more colorful).

I was doubting between Ikim and Ganymede, but I have to say: IKIM. I like them both because of the less characters is more units idea.
Why Ikim? because his army is most of what I like in my armies. Hardhitters a little anti magic and he still has a mistake in his list: 54 points for 10 trappers?
Final vote: Ikim
