Monthly Painting Challenge - March 2013

What? March already? That's right... time for the March Painting Challenge! You only have until the 10th to make your pledges and get painting! Time to make up for the shorter month of February and get some models done!!


Just joining in? The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or build/convert a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and report back with your progress, if and when you manage to complete it. From here on out we will refer to this as your "Pledge"!

The Rules:

• All Pledges will be frozen after the 10th day of the month. There is no changing of *any* pledge after day 10. Pledges are still accepted after the 10th of the month, but they can not be changed once they are made.
• If you finish your pledge, and you would like to really impress the rest of the Stronghold, you can then go on to add a Bonus pledge. Any additions to your pledge made before the 10th go onto your initial pledge and will not count as a Bonus pledge.
• We need to know The number of Models when you post your pledge. 3, 8, 10, or even 100. Saying "A unit" is not acceptable.
• Extra incentive: I will be awarding to those who complete their pledge. I'll also be awarding an extra to the one pledgee who posts the best photos of their pledge throughout the month!

*Please* post the progression of your work (pictures if at all possible). One of the best things about this thread is watching everyone's work come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make separate posts, and then link into this thread so that others can comment directly in your own thread in the Butchers Cauldron or your Gnoblog.

FAQ
Q: So I can Only do Ogre Kingdoms or GW Minis, for my pledge?
A: No. There isn't anything stopping you from building and/or painting anything you like, however this is the Ogre Stronghold, and we are naturally more excited to see Ogre models. If you're working on one of your other Armies or projects, and/or any other Models, please feel free to make a Pledge.

Q: I need to change my Pledge!
A: well.. You have until the 10th day of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There may be small prizes awarded for photographic evidence, but you really only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We'll do one of these close to the beginning of every month...

Q: What if I finish my pledge but decide to do more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's not as big of an accomplishment  to make a pledge with 75% of the project painted at the start of the month...  That's not to say that sometimes the last 25% of the project your working on is not more than worth being a pledge of its own..

Q. I have not completed my Pledge for the past few months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting challenge is to develop some discipline as to what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not able to complete your pledge for the month, then reduce the size of it.

Dedled - Finish converting and paint 2 Ironguts, convert 1 Mournfang cavalry.
stokerd - Paint 1 Firebelly, 5 Ironguts, and finish converting 2 Mournfang cavalry.
RelicPCS - Paint 1 Firebelly, 2 Butchers, 3 "Gorgers", 1 Thundertusk, 40 Gnoblars, finish 1 Ironblaster, magnetize and paint 2 Bulls, convert 3 Maneaters, and 1 Tyrant. 
Zolas - Paint 1 Ironblaster cannon, 1 Ironblaster Rhinox, 1 Ninja Maneater.
Shadowlord - Paint Arachnarok crew, 10 Savage Orcs, convert and paint 1 Savage Orc BSB, and 1 Savage Orc Shaman.
Goretooth -  Convert and paint 2 Ogres, finish painting Thundertusk rider, paint 2 Ghouls.

Right, since i failed so badly last month, i am going to "reign in" my ambitions, based on my slow pace, and eire on the side of caution this month. Also, as painting time is the only time i get to listen to hours of uninterupted music too (which i forgot to detail in Feb) in the hope that it will get me back on track, i will pledge that too (though totally un-needed i know). Also, i am discounting anything i pledged last month...as i think in the "guide" it kind of suggested that 75% complete is no type of pledge at all. So for this month i pledge to do;

6 Ogre Bulls

yep, i know it sounds a bit lame, but i want these guys to be finished. They will be part of a unit currently dubbed the "Paymasters of Mourn" sub titled "the Repo-men". Green stuff will be required to get these guys to look how i visualize them.

In addition to this, as an additional bonus (so not really part of the pledge) i will;
Finish 4 Leadbelchers
Finish 8 Ironguts
Undercoat and paint 2 mournfang Cav
Undercoat and paint 1 IronBlaster

I will do all this whilst listening to; The Cult (Sonic Temple), The Mission (Children), Glen Danzig (Black Aria I & II), Cannibal Corpse (Eviseration Plague), Carter USM (30 Something) and for this month only anything by Megadeth.

And, whilst a bit lame, that is my pledge oh Ogre makers of the great Maw.....

The 40 gnoblars are painted and I'm about to start basing them... damn I'm sick of gnoblars now!

I feel that gnoblar pain, did 80 night goblins in a week a while back.

Irongut champion done, left my basing paints and tufts at a friend so that'll be finished next weekend.

Had a busy building night, and finished 4 man-eaters, built the last 2 bulls and added some tidbits to the butchers. All that remains for this army is painting and basing, and add some flavor bits to the rest of the army.

So far I have failed on my pledge. Been too busy building Necromunda terrain instead of finishing the assembly of my gang!!!!!

Okay got down to it and spent some time getting together my Goliath gang (look familiar Hragged?  ). It's strictly out of the box type stuff so far. Thinking about adding a bit of detail stuff still. Gotta break out the green stuff. In the meantime...

somehow my pledge didn't make it in (Net Gnoblars, indeed!) but I'm back on Ogres and working on: Bulls, a Gorger, Pirate Maneater, and chaining slave tribes to better tribe.  Pledge bulls unit this month and all of this by next month.

Productive month so far! BSB is finished and based, just awaiting the freehand design to do when all the banners in the army are painted.





And nearly there with the Firebelly. All basecoats and washes are done, just tidying up and highlighting. Then the dreaded flames, which I'm leaving to last.

And the standard bearer is finished, not very happy with it but he'll have to do.
I'll have to bonus pledge it up on the irongut musician, should have time tomorrow.

Getting there with the pledge! Only a few days left and only the Mournfang riders to finish! Here is the finished Firebelly.

Had problems with the fire, but I think it will do! Even a little OLS attempted on the face plate, bandages and arm.

Pledge completed! I had a very busy month so I only pledged to do the wrappings. They were time consuming, with half a dozen layers on them to get them just right. I'm pleased.

Fantastic work all! I managed to get my existing models assembled but no progress on the new ones I got. Instead I built a team of Lobstermen, a bunch of terrain, and then a few minis for my D&D group

After a busy day of painting I have completed this months pledge.

4 Mournfang cav riders are complete, pics arent brilliant as fairly dark.

Right from the outset i should say, for the second month running i failed to meet my megre pledge of a mere 6 bulls. There is a reason though...

On the 5th of last March i was served with a (section 21) eviction order, so have been running around like a mad man packing stuff into boxes and trying to find somwhere to live! Sadly, any attention to models would have been met by extreme violence by my better half (though i did manage to get 4 of my 6 bulls done  ).

I was going to post up a picture of these "repo-men" ogres, but i've packed the damn camera somewhere and can't find it. Numpty. I am going to bow-out of next (this) months painting challenge in order to come back fighting fit hopefully in May. Whilst it makes no odds to anyone but me, i half feel like i have let people down by pledging stuff and not doing it. I will come back and really put some in some effort in May.

Now, how the hell am i going to box up 10,000pts of orks without breaking them.....

Failed pledge again.  I did do a little painting but not much.  Mrs and my son have been quite poorly lately so not much time to paint as a result.  Will try and get some painting for done next month.
