Mordheim List Help needed

original thread ↗

Hello everyone, the local gaming club and I have started up on Mordheim, and, I think I like the look of Mercenaries. I was thinking of playing as Marienbergers. I made a list, and we will feature a campaign of probably 30+ games. Here is my initial startoff list:
Captain:
Heavy Armour, Helmet, Brace of Duelling pistols :170
Champion:
Light Armour, Shield, Helmet, Spear: 80
Champion:
Light Armour, Shield, Helmet, Sword:80
Youngblood:
Buckler, Sword, Toughened Leathers, Helmet:50
Youngblood:
Toughened Leathers, Helmet, Buckler, Sword:50
That comes to 430 and I don't know what Henchmen I should buy. I have 170 points left, should I buy marksmen? Swordsmen? Warriors? I am trying to go for a balance in shooting/combat. Is this advised?
I also heard that Mercenaries are under powered at most, are they right? I mean, I see Skaven and Witch Hunters being very powerful, but Mercs don't have any "speciality". Or am I missing something here?
Any advise from you guys would really help me out as I don't want to be an underdog for 30+ campaigns and get crushed every time.
I've only played Mordheim a few times, but from what I remember Mercs do indeed have a kind of underdog status. Their main advantage is a decent weapons selection list in comparison to the others (Tomb Guardians had a really naff choice of gear, though getting a wizard and 3 wound leader helped...)

Marienburgers always seemed like the weakest Mercs to me though - only getting a bit of cash isn't great in the long run, whereas Rieklanders and Middenheimers get permanent buffs.

I wouldn't pour too much into fancy gear to be honest, I preferred numbers and loads of henchmen. But then my early games were against the Carnival of Chaos and Tomb Guardians, so I was rather desperately trying to gank tough expensive individual models...
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
Armor is pointless IMO. Get max heroes, two hand weapons, and plenty of henchmen. Worry about gear later. Helmets can be life savers. One of the few armors I bother with at the start.

Launch your hench men into the danger zone so you can get most of your heroes into the wyrdstoneroll at the end.Maximising gold and purchases
