My personal opinion would be to get rid of the tyrant. The character combo that I use is a Slaughtermaster with Glittering Scales, Fencers Blades, Greedy Fist, (the spells he uses will vary depending on the army I'm facing but this character and the BSB are always the same) and a bruiser BSB with Gold Sigil Sword, Crown of Command, heavy armour, ironfist (usually these 2 join a unit of 8 ironguts with Standard of Discipline). The end result has seen these 2 and their Irongut delivery system shrug off just about anything (though the Ironguts will eventually fall in a protracted combat the 2 characters can prove nigh on invincible). I have seen this combo survive 5 turns in combat with virtually every unit in the enemy army and come out on top (most recently it has been charged by 30 great weapon bestigors and 40 gors including characters and through 4 full turns of combat it wipex them all out - though only the characters survived - my slaughtermaster even shrugged off a last ditch charge from a unit of minotaurs with Doombull as the combo of magic items combined with Trollguts meant the units were hitting him on 5s & 6s with a 4+ ward save. Aside from this I've seen similar feats of arms against Tomb Kings and Skaven on more than 1 occasion). Seriously try it out, if this one unit can achieve all this, imagine the damage that can be done if you support them or counter-charge witb your other units. Used well you can win games of up to 3k with this (admittedly 850 pointish) unit alone.

Apologies for such a long post but this combo is awesome!

As a side note, having a Thundertusk near this unit makes it all the more devastating - have fun
Oh, and at 2400 points I'd highly recommend having no less than 2 Ironblasters, that way the likes of Daemon princes Bloodthirsters, etc. shouldn't get anywhere near your soft and squishy units. You'll also find a minimum of 2 lone sabretusks essential for interfering with your enemy's movement and mis-directing.
That's a different build for a Tyrant, think I might want to try it.

I like the dragonhide banner over the rune maw. The rune maw only works if the unit is 'targeted' and some of the spells that hurts us ogres the most don't target a unit(purple sun and pit of shades). You can put in a crusher in the ogre unit with the points saved.
Come over for dinner, we're having... YOU.

Pit does target the enemy unit if they aim at it. It's a common misconception but there's an FAQ that makes it clear.

Q: Do ranged direct damage spells that use a template have to target an enemy unit? (p31)
A: Yes, the template must be placed over the target enemy unit.
thats a handy thing to know as i have been pitted before losing numerous Ogres :(

im a fan of the rune maw as i dont have to invest so much into magic then.

i can get by with a level 2 and a dispell scroll as my main unit with my gen and bsb in are normally fine..in regards to combat they can look after themselves :P

also, im not the biggest fan of magic, its handy...but the most unreliable thing in warhammer in my opinoin next to warmachines. plus, i have lost a game turn 1 before when my opponent had the fisrt turn and just shot stupid amounts of stuff..made my generals bsb unit run of the table and the rest ofthe army behind them. I really believe in higher leadership whenever possible. Plus with the build of the tyrant...he is hard to take down. i think people under estimate the re roll wounding him. that with toughness 5, decent armour and a good ward really goes far (as in he doesnt die :P)

in reagrds to iron blasters, as i mentioned earlier, they are very unreliable. taking two does increase chances of killing things, but also increases chances of just blowing up giving points away. i much prefer to have units who tend to fail only charges if anything...but i make sure im in a situation where im not bothered about being charged so much (always strikes last aura comes in handy here). i dont know what blood thirsters are like to be honest at all...but i imagine what i will do is deploy my mannies in front of him at an angle to atleast take some wounds of him and if not kill him tie him up for abit.
and a 850 point wrecking ball is good but pricey...my wrecking ball is not far off it but thats why i take the higher leadership. theres not much our armies wrecking balls cant plough through especially after couple rounds of combat, but on that dreadful turn you lose combat by one...im thankfull of every point of leadership i can get my hands on...really want to try and work crown of command in but i aint putting any more characters in that unit. lol

All valid points, and when I get the chance I have a nice Tyrant build I like to use though it only comes out to play in games over 3k simply because I've found the Slaughtermaster build infinitely more versatile especially given my club comprises more high quality tournament players (especially for games where you can tailor lists to your opponent) who write filthy lists.
On the matter of maneaters I've found that I can't justify using them in smaller games (under 3k) as they seem overpriced. What do you guys see as so impressive about them? What have I missed?
