Road to the Throne of Skulls and beyond

original thread ↗

Hi all! I'm going to dedicate this Gnoblog to the gradual completion of my 2000pts Throne of Skulls army, as well as any other ogre models/projects that take my fancy!

PERCENTAGE OF LIST COMPLETED: Approximately 52%

My army List is as follows:

Slaughtermaster MAW       1/1 Completed
level 4
Great Weapon
Earthing Rod
Rock Eye

Bruiser BSB                        1/1 Completed
Rune Maw
Great Weapon
Heavy armour
Death cheater

Firebelly                             1/1 Completed
level 2
Hellheart

4 units of 10 Gnoblar trappers        1/40 Completed

9 Ogres with Ironfists and full command        6/9 Completed

7 Maneaters with full command, dragonhide banner and some additionnal hand weapons for the front rank
1/7 Completed

Thundertusk     0/1 Completed

I'm pretty happy with the list and some of the models are already finished, so I shall commence with the images.
The basic colour scheme is as shown on these ogres:

I decided to go with two contrasting colours for their trousers, basically picked out at random, but they've definitely grown on me - I kind of like the empire-ish theme they create, even if the colours don't match up to any empire province as far as I know. But I digress...

More Ogres (Including command) for a total of 6 completed Ogres:

I'll be updating the original post with a amount completed tally and possibly a percentage of points complete!
Eg: 6/9 Ogres completed
My Slaughtermaster General! Can you guess the inspiration? ;)

This idea was originally a joke from a friend, but I liked the idea and went with it! xD Props go to him for making the chef's hat though - it's the only bit of greenstuff work in this blog that isn't my own.

Side projects, ho!
This is the beginnings of an Ironblaster - I'm not using one in my army, but It shows the paintscheme I'll be using for the thundertusk/any other beasties or fur I'm using in this army. For whatever reason I decided that all creatures in the caves my ogres come from have the same colour fur! :p
Rhinox:

What do you think of the paintscheme?

More pictures (including firebelly, BSB and a giant)coming soon!
Very nice, espcially the rhinox. Might use that kind of scheme on my Thundertusk... hmm yes..
Thanks! I'm going to try to get some photos of my BSB and such before I leave for work in a few hours so stay tuned, there's much more to come :)
Update time! Here's some photos of my giant, I use him in friendlies and fun games but in a 2000 point tournament list he has to stay in the caves :(. It's a shame too, if it had been 2400 I would have included him (I have a soft spot for the slave giant :) ).

Now for my favourite model/conversion that I've done so far: My bruiser BSB!

I converted him using the Pirate maneater GW model, a minotaur banner arm and flag, plus the Maw icon from the Thundertusk kit. This was also my first ever attempt at freehand! Huzzah :D

Some closeups:
The icon:

The Bruiser:
I went for a more tanned skin tone with my maneaters and my bruiser, my logic being there would be no way they'd be as pale as the rest of my cave dwellers having spent so long travelling on the ocean.

And Finally some WIP shots of the tribe's Firebelly (Although he is now finished I don't have any finished photos of him yet, I'll get on that tomorrow):

I went on to paint the mask a similar bone colour as the gut-plate, however after my attempt at directional lighting it came out more as orangey-yellow.

Next up most likely will be the finished Firebelly plus WIP maneater conversions! (I used the basic ogres kit)
Mini update!

Here is the more or less finished firebelly!
(I think i'll probably give the flame another layer or so)

I'm particularly happy with the bug on his gutplate and his weapons, but how do you think the fire/directional lighting worked out?
Great stuff!

Which ToS are you going too? I'm off to the one in mid March :)

OSL looks great, I'd recommend using some of the Lamenters Yellow Glaze to blend the colours together nicely :)
++ The Vanus Temple ++
That's the one I'm going to! I'm driving up to nottingham with 3 friends, one other of whom is another ogre player :)
Awesome :) I can see Ogres and Warriors of Chaos being very popular this year!
++ The Vanus Temple ++
Moar updates!
Here is a picture of my completed maneater captain/champion! He could also double as a hunter should I chose to take one:

He is inspired by captain ahab, so naturally he has a harpoon with which to deal with any pesky white whales one might run across

+50 points (and a cookie) to anyone who can guess what kit/model that cape is from!

I also tried to keep with the pirate theme for my maneaters, here are some pictures pirate maneaters in various stages of completion!

Bellower:

Standard bearer (with the dragon hide banner):

Regular guys:

I had to build a maneater especially to stand behind my maneater captain as his cape prevented him from standing in front of most models:

Yes that is a treasure chest on his base ;)

I have another maneater conversion in the works involving a leadbelcher cannon and some greenstuff! (And a dagger between someones teeth) stay tuned :)
