The Alliance of the Well Travelled Ogres..

original thread ↗

I think that if it were a little less regular, then it could look more tiger-like, and then it wouldn't matter how defined the lines are.
But I like the concept of the patterning.
Loooooooooooooove the finished Mournfang! And the Slayers made me laugh. Keep it up!
Love everything I see here! My only comment... those slayers need a lot more tattoos!!

Can I have that iron blaster please?! :)

Ok... that is an awesome army! loving the paint jobs!
Do you per chance have any WIP on that iron blaster or a list of the kit bashed bits? I can guess some... like the iron blaster :O :P
But seriously. Any chance for a fellow Tyrant? *rawr* :)

Great job!
Chris

Mate! These models look awesome!  :o The glow on them leadies is fantastic, and on second look even the MFC look really good...i am amazed by the work you have done here, now smash all-commers at your touney and show them that your Ogres mean buisness!

If i had any idea how the "pet Gnoblars" thing actually worked, then i would indeed be giving you one for your collection.....sadly, i dont but the thought was there!

Look for a red link below his name/avatar on any of his posts, that says "+1 Gnoblar"

Click it, then write a short explanation for the gift (remember to state the name of the person you are gifting).

Stunning army my good fellow Ogre! Inspiring to say the least!
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!
Thanks everyone for the kind words! :)

Link to a WIP shots of the Iron Blaster, it changed more since that photo. I'll try and get some updated photos now it's been weathered!

http://www.the-vanus-temple.com/converted-ironblaster-complete-doubles-2012/

I think its mainly an Ironblaster with some building struts and the old empire steam tank wheels, I made some pistons and pipes underneath and added the exhaust from the Ork Trukk. I remember it went through about three different stages of construction as I kept changing my mind ;)

Almost there.. the lost ogre has arrived in the post today from Middlesbrough. Truly a well travelled Ogre now ;)

Just the Banner for the Khemri Ogres to do tomorrow and I'm Finished!!

That blue skull mask! Awesome paint job all over dude
The army is stunning Dezartfox!
Thank you for the link! :)
I have had a look on your website also :P
But I do have to apologise! I AM going to steal that idea :P lol
Hate the current model for the Ironblaster :(

One thing I have noticed was the lack of close up on the ginger slayers! :P :P
Discriminating by hair colour are we? :O :P All Joking aside I think (In my opinion) the "Egyptian Influenced" ogres stand out by miles! I love the blue mask and the shoulder pads!

Thank you again for the inspiration Dezart!

Chris

Thanks :)
Feel free to steal away! ;)
I'll be taking a load of photos this evening and this weekend at the tournament. The Well travelled Ogres will be going down to Nottingham for the Throne of Skulls weekend! Haha I have nothing against gingers at all.. my other half is ginger ;)

I'm currently working on the banner for the Khemri Ogres, I wanted the unit to be different to the other unit of Iron guts in the army, and it's a unit I've always wanted to make :) I'll probably do a chaos unit of Ironguts next, not mutated though, just lots of armour and horns to mimic the warriors of Chaos.

More pictures later!
++ The Vanus Temple ++
Ill look forward to them. Will you be posting any battle reports from the Throne Of Skulls?

They do stand out from the rest :) Mission accomplished :)

As for your chaos Ogres I have some myself. Used parts from an old defiler kit :)
Those leg guards make good shields/Ironfists. Also that helm fits "almost" perfectly over an ogres head :)

I'll keep that in mind Chris! I have some of those leg guards somewhere...

FINISHED!
I'll post full army shots shortly :)

Well done! Love the Khemrian Ironguts (not surprising, as I've got a Khemrian Tyrant!)

What sword did you use for your firebelly?
Looks like the sword from the Balrog kit? :)

Thank you again for the WIP pics of the Ironblaster sourced most of the parts (Used wheels from an old Chariot kit) :)
On a side note, how did you do your golds? :)

*Claps.* *Proceeds to walk away before eyes explode in amazeme-*
Too late
That Khemri unit is da bomb!

Lovely freehand on the banner and a very good paint job.
My hood is my castle...
Bravo!
Sorry ive been lurking again dezartfox :) Finished my custom firebellys and now building my iron blaster! Thank you very much :)

But looking over your pics again... where did you learn your freehand?!
Ive not painted for several years (until I started ogres a few months back) and am re-learning the skills :)
Im fine with my dry brushing (sun burst yellow doesn't work!?), Highlighting, shading, blending (kind of)but my freehand is shocking lol. I used to be a really good drawer, although could probably just manage a stick figure just now
Anyway, did you practice on paper? use a stencil? or just go at it in the traditional ogre fashion? :P
Just curious, I know you have a lot of painting experience under your belt from your website (im not stalking honest) and since Ive been intrigued by your ogres I figured who better to ask :) If you don't mind ofc! :)
Also If you don't mind a bonus question :) Were your golds done with GW gold, Devlan mud, Silver highlight? (sorry don't know the names) :)

It's just practice.
My freehand isn't that great, not as good as it used to be anyway. I use a mix of fine pens and paint. I usually draw it out first. I will leave you this link, some excellent tutorials on here:
http://fromthewarp.blogspot.co.uk/p/archives-and-tutorials.html

Ah the golds use no gold paint at all ;)

Silvers, and then washed with Cassandora Yellow Shade. Two coats of that usually give a nice "burnt" gold colour. I use it a lot more on my Necrons:
http://www.the-vanus-temple.com/necrons-triarch-praetorians-and-revisited-lychguard/

As for the tournament. I did excellently... only lost all 5 games out of 5 ;)
Worst part was I didn't even get nominated for Best Painted army for some reason....? Yet there was an Vampire army that was average at best, no gaps filled or anything. No offence to that guy but mine was easily better.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/883769_640359919323412_1264989270_o.jpg

I did overhear the judges telling the White Dwarf photography team not to photograph something as the owner was a professional army painter. I used to paint commissions a lot so I might have fallen into that category. Would explain why my last two armies haven't been nominated.
++ The Vanus Temple ++
really? going to try that on my TK :) Now need to visit GW for some more paint... sigh!
Then again I need more texture anyway... lol
He won the best army?! seriously?!
There are gaps galore (well maybe exaggerated) some mould lines I think other than that its some blending gone wrong :P IMO the bases are the best part :P :P
And now you say "yeh that wasn't the VC army that's a commission..." :P
But yeh... what happened in your games!? lost all 5? was it just 5 bad match ups or just tough opponents? :)
How do they know your a pro army painter? something on the form? (sorry ignorance, never been to one) :P
Also thank you for the link, im going to spend today doing some research since im snowed in :)
