Has anyone made yhetees work?

original thread ↗

i would like to work these guys in somehow. any success stories or just a pipe dream? thinking of having 2 units of 5 support 5 scout stubborn and 5 van/swift stride maneaters.
There is someone on the forum who has, can't remember who, but I have had decent success with mine as flankers, combo chargers, and WE killers (they are fast, remove WE wardsave, and have swiftstride).

The problem is that they have no save and are often outclassed by Mournfangs and Maneaters.

I still use them time to time, because no one expects them just like with a hunter and ten kitties.
My hood is my castle...
Not really. They're just inferior to maneaters in every way. I think there's potential in using multiple small units ... But the models are so horrible I can't find the enthusiasm to bother. Crap rules and crap models equals no way.
I've never tried them myself, but from what I can tell there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. The problem is that the other special choices are just that little bit better or more versatile and so they tend to be left at home.
The main issue is that if you can think of a use for Yhetees, chances are an equal amount of points in Maneaters with Swiftstride and a Standard of Swiftness do it better.

I tried the minimum unit of three recently. They're fine, they're not bad in any way. Maneaters with the Swiftstride option outclass them though, in all but movement, and you can get a standard for that.

The upside is that if you just want nothing more than a cheap squad of three they can sometimes be better, or if you're already wanting to use a unit of Swiftstriding Maneaters for other reasons. Plus, it didn't hurt me as much when I lost them as when I lost Mournfangs or Maneaters, so I guess there's that.

I am looking at using these guys as i already have 3 units of maneaters. I thought that a couple of units of Ys would be an almost cheap way of fielding a fast support unit. They have no armour but i have found that the lack of armour may not be a problem as vs S4+ our units have no save anyway. MFC really are great but am trying to expand my horizons. for 4 yhetees i could get an iron blaster so having 2 units means dropping 2 IBs. I will give them a run this weekend and see how they go.
I play them when I think my High elf friend is getting too frustrated with my leadbelchers and maneaters.
They are good at taking hits from mangler squiggs and pump wagons.

Also, their initiative might make them slightly better against some opponents, when you're able to strike first or at the same time. This make running them at min size easier than with man eaters or other ogres.

The magical attacks are also good against VC, and the -1 Ws aura can also be useful depending on the opponent.

As others have said, they are not bad by themselve, they just suffer from the competition.

Also, I've recently found if you just want an expendable unit they can be better than Maneaters in that regard. Losing maneaters with that +1M magic standard hurts a lot more than some angry monkeys.

Plus, their -1WS thing seems to be functionally identical to WS4 for most targets. Granted, there are cases where that's different, but worth noting nonetheless.

If they changed -1 WS to -1 to Hit like the Mark of Nurgle.. I might consider them. (Probably would require skirmishing too for -1 to BS as well)

They work just great.  They just aren't as good as the rest.  They work fine to have a different list or for flavor lists.  I love Yhetees because they are fun and they work differently with the rest of the army.  Plus, LotGM now affects them, so they have synergy with magic.
