Lustrian Ogres

original thread ↗

Once upon a time, literally years ago, I started my army of Lustrian themed Ogres. It's finally done! Well, to be honest, it was done several months ago, but I've only just been organized enough, and inspired enough, to upload some photos. I'll do it over five days, for a laugh. Lords, Heroes, Core, Special, Rare.

Credit where credit is due. Some of these ideas have been shamelessly stolen adapted from some of the folks on this very forum. The army literally wouldn't have looked as good without you. You'll know who you are!

Day 1: Lords!

1 Slaughtermaster is about it...

If y'all have any comments/questions/queries/requests, I'll be more than happy to hear them  :D.
Exams are finished, and I am back in business baby!

Check it out, pet Gnoblar!  I dub thee Scumbo.
Very cool, looking forward to seeing more!

Must be time for an update! Next cab off the rank is the Hero section. That'd be one Firebelly, one Bruiser BSB, and one Butcher. For anybody who is curious, I normally run my lord with Lore of Beasts, hence the Butcher tax.

Firebelly!

Bruiser BSB (inspiration taken from a model on this very site)

Butcher! The veterans amongst you will recognise my take on the Halfling 'Cookbook', from the old book  ;).

The whole team together.

Questions/comments appreciated  :).

Loving this so far! The characters all look great. I especially like the human and halfling.

Cheers! Glad you like the theme. More is coming.

The next update is a little slow, being core... but keep an eye out for the rest!

Glad you like it! I hope you keep looking in and commenting, it's no fun if I'm throwing down uncommented work haha.

Anyway, a bit of a boring update today - core unit! I play an Irongut horde, so that's all I need for core, really!

There's a few conversions smattered about in there. I wonder if any of you recognise where those jungle trees at the back came from, for example?

Very nice unit but do you not find it a bit ch arac ter heavy and maybe putting all your eggs in one basket? Personally I prefer a mid size unit of guts and one of bulls (8-10 men in each plus character). In larger games there will be a second unit of bulls as well when I get the minis.

Anyway nice work. Looking forward to seeing a Lustria themed stonehorn and ironblaster!
Oh and I think the trees come from the 3rd edition dark eldar battleforce set.

In short, yes. It's totally putting all my eggs in one basket haha. Still, it's fun, even if on occasion a Purple Sun really ruins my day!  :P

Well picked! The third edition box is where I found them.

Nice looking units, I see you've used a Mournfang GW and some other weapon swap. The unit looks great, it has a lot of character! (Bad pun totally intended)

That is a terrible pun . Yes, I've used a pair of Mournfang great weapons in the unit. I think the other is an old Chaos Warrior halberd... I don't know, I pulled it from a voluminous bits box! You're about to see why I had mournfang weapons lying around...

Mournfangs!

I'm sure this will come as no surprise. I believe it's been done before on here. Half these models are metal, and half are finecast, and I'll say it now, finecast was far better to work with. I could heat and repose the 'saurs, and good luck doing that with a metal model!

But wait, there's more! Check now, and you can see three single Sabertusks!

Loving this army. Is the Bsb a hint that we will be seeing věry skinky gnoblars?
Wow those mournfang or "Dinofangs" are fantastic!  And as for those sabre tusks!  Wow the edition of tails are really nice cheetah paint job is really exceptional!

I am loving the progress and look of this army  8) , great work dude, keep the pictures comming.
Looking awesome so far. Great use of the theme!

May I recommend a little flesh wash on the ogre skin and on the gold? It will add quite a bit of depth. Other than that, awesome!
Wow I love the Carnofangs!!! Nice usage of LM bits as well. This blog is a real treat and now a daily stop. Looking forward to tomorrow's update.

Lots of replies! I love it. It's nice for people to take an interest. I don't normally rate my own work highly, but I was pretty proud of this mob. Especially since a LOT of it was done very quickly before a local tournament. Yay night before tourney painting  :P.

Loving this army. Is the Bsb a hint that we will be seeing věry skinky gnoblars?

Sadly, no. I did actually convert and paint some Gnoblars up, but they didn't even make the cut for my army list in the end! I'll see if I can track down my favourite, I'll post him up at the end.

There were many DinoRider (if any of you remember that awesome show) references when people saw my army. I do like the name Dinofangs though haha.

The leopard paint job (yes, it's different from Cheetah spots, yay research for painting  8)) and the tails really helped the Sabertusk models, which didn't really do a lot for me at first. I was going to use the riderless finecast Cold Ones, but it just confused everybody - not what you want in a tournament . I believe I got the idea for tails on this site somewhere too!

Cheers for the Gnoblar! I'll have him scrape up the dino-poop.

Cheers! More pictures are incoming... right now!

Cheers! I think a strong theme works best. Nobody is going to ask what the theme is on this army  :). As for the painting reccomendations, the perils of last minute painting! I have highlighted some of the gold on the characters, but on the Dinofangs(tm) I simply didn't have the time! If I retouch the army, it's certainly on the list!

Wow I love the Carnofangs!!! Nice usage of LM bits as well. This blog is a real treat and now a daily stop. Looking forward to tomorrow's update.

Thanks! I do like the Carnofangs/Dinofangs. So dangerous on the tabletop too, so much damage . The army was... expensive haha, that was one painful unit to purchase, but I think the effect was worth it  :D. Tomorrows update... is NOW!

Must be time for Rare choices. The first comes as no surprise to y'all, I'm sure... A pair of Ironblasters!

I still don't know how I painted these guys so fast haha. I must have thrown them together in a day or two. Considering I'm normally SO SLOW... not good . Hence, a lot more could have been done I guess, but it got the point across. Cannons are cool. Dinosaurs are cool. Big cannons on big dinosaurs... well, you can see where I'm going with that!

Now, the pride and joy. Ironically, the pride and joy, the thing that bought most people to the army to have a look... is certainly the worst painted bit . Still, let's see what you all think about this beasty. It's a Thundertusk, but not as you know it...

I actually had crazy plans for this thing, but time pressure meant this was the best I could do. What does everybody think? Questions/comments welcome, of course! I'll have some pics tomorrow of the army as a whole, and then I guess I'm done. Sad times! Tell your friends, spread the word, I want people to have a look. To feed my ego, if nothing else

Brilliant!!!! I love the Stegadonblasters, they look awesome! The idea behing the Thunderdusk is awesome as well. Great stuff, so much eye candy in this blog.

Thankee kindly! Simple ideas, when you get around to it. Plus many of them are stolen anyway haha.

The Dinotusk! I love it. It's big enough to kick a giant in the face (and did so in my tournament ). Sadly, I don't have much farther to go... that was the rare section, after all!

Stegoblasters! Man soooo sweet.  And that Dinotusk I just don't even know what to say.  :D

:D Cheers. It impressed a few people, I was hoping you guys would approve.

Now, to round things off, a few pictures taken on the day of my local tournament. Gets the scale of the Dinotusk across a bit better I find.

Oh noes, you will see my identity!

Final thoughts/questions/comments welcome! I only just made the 'one post per new day' bracket... time for me to catch some zzz's.

I love it.  How does your brontosaurus work with true line of sight?  He could see over castle walls, lol!
The enemy of my enemy is my double enemy.
While I normally cringe when seeing dino toys in armies, this one is just to cool/fun to ignore.

Fits right in. :)
My hood is my castle...
Man, I'm having a blast! The thing that I love about all of the recent ogre miniatures, such as the thundertusk, is that they make me feel like I'm six again and playing with DinoRiders (anyone remember them?) and this army is taking it that one brilliant extra step! Have a gnoblar!
Enough words. Witness...
