New official GW FAQ

original thread ↗

So we got some new FAQs yesterday, but we Ogres didn't get a simple clarification for the Greedy Fist. Shame on you GW!!!

Also, nothing on Golgfag...

You can find the FAQ at the link below.

A big change I see is you can no longer voluntarily move through a Vortex. So they will prevent charges.

Handy if your high Inititive opponent plops a purple sun between you and him. He won't be able to charge through it while using it to shield his army because it works both ways.

Also, if you unvoluntarily move through a Vortex your movement ends immediatly on the other side. So if a unit fails a Frenzy test and charges through the Vortex it will automatically fail the charge and simply be placed 1" beyond it.

Another thing is the War Alter doesn't give its rider Stubborn. I find that odd. Not sure what that means in melee. Is the War Alter not stubborn while riding the War Alter. Whats going on here.

Can't you end a remains in play spell at any time? Your opponent would just cancel it before he charged.
Well, reading the FaQ regarding Greedy Fist, my interpretation would be in order for the wizard to lose a level it has to be wounded by an attack classified as either Melee or Ranged. SO say if you hit them with a spell that says " Treat this as a ranged attack" or whatever the wording on that sort of stuff is.. yeah I would let that slide. But for lets say Spirit leech, that's not a ranged attack its a Direct Damage spell that says " For every point the caster wins by, the opponent suffers a wound". NOW if it said " the opponent suffers a wound, treat these as if they were a ranged attack" or something like that sure cool. But as it stands NO MORE Deathfisters. Least we still have hellheart and Ironblasters :D
When maw gives you lemons, APPEASE HIM!

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

It is about some other death spells that are quite effective at taking out wizards. And a spell is a ranged attack, that still removes wizard levels thanks to the faq
I've said before, but I personally go for the path of least game time wasted.  But it is a little frustrating that P1 of the FAQ says it's CC only, and Page 2 says it can be used at range.  I just took the lesser of 2 evils and now run a heavens caster.  Finding the best counter to a mage is either a Mournfang to the face, or sniper eaters.  Still, updated FAQ would be nice, as I have one player in particular who tends to lean towards an FAQ should be completely ignored if it contains direct contradictions.

It doesn't say CC only...but seriously, just use heavens or Maw, it's better anyways.
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!
How does heavens or maw help? I am pretty curious and would like to try it

It doesn't as far as the Greedy Fist goes. They're really just better lores to put on your SM for most situations. If your gaming group doesn't think that Death Fisting is still viable, use poison sniping maneaters with a Heavens or Maw SM.

If they do think it's still viable (which they should...) Deathfist to your hearts content.

But it does

Change the last sentence to “In addition, an enemy Wizard loses a Wizard level and a randomly selected spell each time they are hit in close combat by an Ogre wearing the Greedy Fist.”

No it doesn't. Show me the word "only" in that Errata.

If the word "only" is not implied by that sentence, what is the point of that piece of errata?

Because playing by the rules and playing by RAW are not necessarily the same thing.
Exactly. Really, the argument is that if it doesn't say "only close combat" you can apply it to ranged too? That could be applied to a whole host of other things.
