As my friend and I are still new to WHFB we are slowly building our armies currently up to the 1K lists. Problem being he gets beaten to a pulp by my awesome ogres. Just to help him out I am trying to build an awesome 1K list to play vs and ogre army, but I do not know much about VC.
So what would you lot fear to come up against in a 1K VC list?

At 1k points the VC don't really have anything and ogre would fear. There just isn't enough points for a VC player to get anything scary. I play against VC weekly at 1500 points and and even than they only really get one trick.

Yeah pretty much what we have been thinking....best bet would force everyone else to get painting so we can play bigger battles

Although it's nice having unpainted models doesn't mean you cant play bigger games

intend on having a game this coming friday (gotta love RDO's)
He is keeping his list close to his chest but from what i can tell he is attempting to go ethereal heavy with terror units to play against my lack of magic attacks and low LD
to combat this i am running
Firebelly lvl2 with GW, dispell scroll/ruby ring of ruin
6 IG - FC with STD DISC
3 ME with BoP poison and sniper
then i do not know what to run
stonehorn
ironblaster
2x MFC
sabres
leadbelchers
is what i have. definately want to run the ME's as i have never run them before and have only just finished building them but not sure if 3 is enough. thoughts?

Its much easier to make a weaker 1k ogre army than it is to make a strong 1k VC game. Play with alot of 3-4 man units with no bsb and no banner of discipline. Then with every ogre killed, you run the big risk of hitching a ride on the panic train, really evening out the games, but still remaining fun and strategic.

It's not specifically good against ogres, and he'd probably have to substitute models, but has your friend tried a cavalry list?
- Tooled up vampire hero (suggest barded Nightmare, Heavy Armour, Shield, Talisman of Endurance, Sword of Might, Red Fury for a good amount of damage output combined with a 2+ save and a 5+ ward)
- Dire wolf core (should be ~ 32)
- Black Knights to house the general
- Another unit of Black Knights or Blood Knights as a 2nd combat block.
Use the wolves as early deployment drops so he can see where his opponents are placing their units and as throw away/ re-directing units so he can hopefully take on the opponents army in pieces with the combined strength of his 2 cavalry units. It doesn't have much in the way of magic which can be a problem for VC but I think investing enough in magic to make it worthwhile won't leave enough points for any decent combat units.
