Stonehorn or Thundertusk?

Eventually I want to get either a stonehorn or thundertusk for my ogre army.

I can see the good points of both with the stonehorn being more killy but the thundertusk perhaps more flexiblw with its shooting attack and asl aura for nearby enemies.

I prefer the look of the stonehorn but want it to do well in games too. Which is the best option? It had been suggested to.me that I magnetise the head and don't glue in the crew so I may well go.down that route as long as it is fairly simple.

I may even go for both if funds allow (which may depend on whether I decide to.convert a unit of maneaters with brace of pistols).

I magnetized mine and it works out great. Another option is play a few games with each without gluing the head on and see which one you really like more. For me I thought I would like the Thundertusk more but turns out I enjoy the Stonehorn play style more.

Thanks for the advice. I am at the moment leaning towards the thundertusk as I am starting to realise that the ogres work best by using units to buff other units like the asl aura of the tusk while the stonehorn is all about the smashiness.

I think magnetising is the best option.

How'd you magnetize your TT/Stonehorn Blailah? I tried and tried. I just couldn't find any magnets strong enough that would fit in the body while also holding the heads weight.

Hey guys, first real post, woo hoo! Never magnetised a Stone horn bit have used a few on other big models.

My suggestion would be find a spot to pin the joint without glueing and a magnet, the pin takes the weight while the magnet holds the part in still and to the model.  Also especially if space is an issue magnetise a nail, in this case put the nail in the neck as well as a pin with a magnet in the head.  The nail trick also works well for small parts buy themselves, like weapons, and is a good way to make your magnet supply stretch.

Finally, after months of lurking and paying homage to other people's talents (by shamelessly stealing ideas) I finally thought I could value add.

Grey Templar - I used three 3x2 mm magnets glued together in the head and another one or two (can't remember now) 3x2 mm through the plastic of the body where the head attaches. I then used a 5x10 mm inside the body cavity to hold everything together. I added sprue off-cuts inside the cavity to provide something for the greenstuff I mushed around the big magnet to stick to. Clear as mud I'm sure, but if I can work out how to get photos small enough to post I will. 

It holds just fine for either head. It even holds a converted stonehorn/thundertusk hybrid carrying the extra weight of both sets of tusks.

I find that using magnet to magnet a far better hold than magnet to metal. It's just a matter of finding the write magnet for the job, and if you are going far enough to magnetize a model than spending a little extra to get the right ones for the job is worth it.

I picked up some neodymium magnets from my local Hobby Lobby. Places one inside each head and one inside the main body where the head attaches. If it wasn't for the small gaps between the magnets and the plastics I think the magnets would be too strong, each is about 10k gauze or what ever is used to measure the pull. To hold them in place I use a plumbers puddy that works just like greenstuff just far cheaper cost wise and bought from walmart. Than I place one more in each of the back pieces held in with "greenstuff". I'll post pictures as soon as I get it back from my Mom who is painting it to be a center piece to my army when displayed (she paints for a living doing ceramics).
