Silk Road Tribe (large image warning)

Hey everyone,
         I thought I'd come out of the shadows and post up some of my paint jobs. With the help of my girlfriends camera phone I final got some half decent photos but some are blurry so please forgive my noobness as its my first time taking minis public.
         These guys are largely done besides some small cleanup like basing. My general theme is to keep them a little more eastern flavored so they all have nice pants likely made from kimonos and the like. Everything is made from the basic plastic boxes and various bits so no metal and no finecast. Questions ,comments and critiques welcome. Hopefully I can update this reasonably regularly. Sorry if the images are too large.

Very nicely painted, and some neat conversions too. I really like the standard bearer for your Bulls and Bruiser/Tyrant 2's shield is simple, but brilliant!

Models look fantastic but are you planning to base them?

Some fantastic models there matey the last tyrant and standard bearer are particularly impressive.

Johnny-Crass - I don't know if I'm going to base them. I hadn't intended to since I generally don't like when my bases wildly clash with whatever terrain I'm playing on. Also I don't know how/have never done any basing before. That said I'm fairly happy with how they look so far so maybe they do deserve themed bases. I know what i want the bases to look like. The bone filled desert levels from act 2 of Diablo 3. But I really doubt I could get them to look that way across the whole army in any reasonable way. In the very least I will repaint the bases black or brown.
Any suggestions?
Green grass seems pretty standard and not too hard I suppose and would fit with a Mongolian plains concept. Snow probably wouldn't be terrible either but I fear all that stark white clashing plus that maybe above my skill level. Whatever I did I wouldn't be happy unless I really nailed. Wish some company made 40mm scenic bases and did it super cheap.

I love the Leadbelcher with the fake eye stuck to his eyepatch! You pulled it off quite nicely. The Tilean stallion made me laugh too. Nice work!

Your second Bruiser/Tyrant is inspiring, and its mostly just plastic parts too and the generic plastic Ogre body, somebody give him a Gnoblar.

Yeah the only bits on that second Tyrant that's not from the Ironguts box is the Chaos Warrior cloak on his back. Was a real pain to hollow that out also. Luckily I got a friend to dremel it. I should take a birds eye shot so you can see that his collar forms a maw around his neck. Other then the Chaos Warrior cloak part and some green stuff on the shield its a fairly simple conversion just allot of bit chopping.

Shield is the Ironguts' banner top obviously.
Bulls' gutplate halved and carved into a crescent for the shoulders.
Bulls' Champ gutplate halved and hollowed out to the teeth for the collar.
The plates on his one arm are from the upper part of two ironfists as are the piece that connect the front and back half of his collar piece.
His horns are from the large cow skull banner top from the bulls sprue.
the hammer is clearly just two ironfist fronts mashed on top of a standard Bull hammer weapon.

I had made this Tyrant really as my backup since I wanted the one with that large green sword to be my man guy but in play the brass demon there has turned out to fits how I kit out tyrants more often and is more recognizable on the table anyway. I'm not a huge fan of Chaos themed Ogres (too much damn chaos in Warhammer as it is I say) so I prefer the Blademaster style tyrant myself but what are you gonna do?

Clean up area and catch edges in Red Gore

Dab on Blazing Orange very haphazardly with a crappy ruined brush.

Made some more progress on my bulk metal painting.
Still having a hard time getting the photos to show the reality here so the differences might be a tad subtle.

Lighter drybrush of Boltgun Metal.

At this point I like the metal but it is too warm so I do a light wash of Regal Blue then to define some details and generally grubby it up a bit I wash the metal with a very thin black.

This is hard to see in the photos but here is an attempt at a comparison


Next step is just touch up and scratches but that will have to wait till another day

quick update here's step 6.

Highlights using chainmail silver are done with some very light drybrushing. I focus on brushing from harsh angles and also scrap the side of the brush across smooth areas to create bighter metal scratched areas. by being a little careful and using moderation this ,for me at least, is a decent way to get some good details done fairly quickly. If I mess up I can just rewash with black and then try again.

Of course saying all that doesn't mean much when your photos aren't good enough to show it.

Great conversions! especially your bruisers and tyrant, so simple yet really captures that "I'm the boss" feel!

p.s, Did you just use the battalion bits + green stuff with most of your conversions?

Awesome work, that tyrant/bruiser is kitbashing art.  Is the neck guard on him from a gutplate?

ThisisQ - yeah i have only used plastic in everything. No finecast or metal. Pretty much everything is from the Battalion box yeah or a little greenstuff. there are some few random plastic bits here and there in my army from other forces as I;ve been able to beg them off of friends' armies sprues.
