Tozons Mountain Eaters - 18/02/13 Full Army Photos (and some new Trappers)
I've been posting here for a while - mostly just looking at some of the Ogre projects that are simply amazing (Masterowen45s Ogres from the North and Anvalous Bret-Ogria blogs are definitely worth a mention for there sheer awesomeness) and hanging in the feeding grounds to get some (normally) sound tactical pointers. But I thought it was time I put some of my pretties on here to show you all what I'm packing.
Hydra - SoM (Painted) Arachnarok (Painted) Warpfire Dragon (Painted)
I managed to get some photos the other day when I was having a game, I will try and photograph the remaining models when I can get round to knocking myself a lightbox together at home.
First up, the big boys themselves - the Mournfang Cav!
Riding into battle:
Champion:
Full Unit:
Then one of my favourite units in Warhammer, Leadbelchers:
Full Unit
Close Up
And finally 3/6 Maneaters (including a guy who doubles as a beast caster - I'll get a better photo of him though)
All 3
Double up as a hunter when desperate!
Hope you guys like them!

An awesome looking army! Your painting is truly sublime, they look very cool with the woad like warpaint and the ME/Beast's Butcher looks pretty smart too. Have a Gnoblar on me

Nice looking army. Is your beast caster mid cast of flock of doom?
My Armies: Empire Ogres
Tozon06 Dec 2012
@ Zolas - Thanks, the blue weapons was a test so only a couple of the maneaters have them at the moment. Some mor guys may do at some point if I get the time.....
@ MasteroDistaster - My first Gnoblar WOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!!! Thanks that's really nice of you to say.
@ Ashborn - Cheers
@ Warlordsteve - he is indeed, I wanted to get him mid spell, have posted a slightly better photo underneath but the Bird is still out of focus, I'll get another one when there's some light and I can get a better photo.
But first, the lastest addition to the army - Taralg Earthshaker, Overlord of the Mountain Eater Tribe.
He's only a quick job as I don't think he'll get used to often but want to try him out soon in a doubles game I am having (not I do have some extra bits to do to him aka fingernails but need a new detail brush!!!)
And here's a better shot of the Beasts caster/ Maneater:

Quick update, just assembling the Ironblaster (that has been sat in a box for about a year....). Just looking at the kit I am dreading how much time it is going to take to paint, so much detail and so many bits. Just trimming/ filing and assembling takes a good few hours!
Tozons Mountain Eaters! Blog here
AshBorn07 Dec 2012
Yeah the IB is crazy! It took me about 20 hours total. Make sure you paint most of it before you assemble...
Nice job on that Beast Caster, that is freakin cool lol

Cheers Ashborn!! I had a spare ogre so was playing around and he came out, may add some extras to beef him out a bit at some point and make him look less like a Bull.
I think I have 17 different parts to paint after assembly........just trying to work out what's meant to go in the holes on each side of the chassis floor. Two massive holes with no instructions as to what goes in! (No jokes people!)
Tozons Mountain Eaters! Blog here
Tozon08 Dec 2012
So after assembly I was left with this:
16 pieces assembled ready to be sprayed. I decided to start on the Ogre on top:
WIP Finished
Not a bad start, hoping to make a start on the actual Ironblaster tomorrow!

AshBorn08 Dec 2012
Good lookin man! When you put the Big Tusks onto the cannon, the little posts have to go into the holes on the cannon (maybe the posts on the Rhinox too, I can't remember). If you paint those, they won't slide in. They'll be too fat. So I'd paint everything but leave those unpainted (just the pegs and the inner circle of the holes).
Also, it's kind of a pain in the ass to put those pieces of cloth that the ogre is holding in place on the cannon.. You may have to do some touch up painting after you work it for a little bit.
AshBorn Check my Gnoblog to see my Frost Tribe Ogres!
Heimdall08 Dec 2012
To me the paintjob ofc is solid. What gives this lot more charachter is ye ol' Mel Gibson Warpaint. Splendid!
You can buy gold as bright as the sun and diamonds as pale as the moon. But you cannot buy the sun, you cannot own the moon...
One handers are for spanking, 2-handers are for killing!
Tozon08 Dec 2012
@ Ashborn - Uh oh! I've already sprayed them, hopefully some "gentle persuasion" will help them in. I'll report back when I eventually get there......
@ Heimdall - Cheers mate! The idea for the warpaint came after reading a random Terry Pratchett book, I'm not trying to imitate William Wallace (or Mel Gibson) I assure you I'll leave that to my Scottish brethren
In between working on the Ironblaster (still in circa 1,000,000 pieces) I managed to get a couple of games in today. I played against my mates WoC army and bizarrely, as we normally do play them, both us us decided against a lvl 4!
I'll do a brief report of the 2 games, both were at 2500pts
The WoC list didn't change each game, it was:
Chaos Lord w/ 4+ Ward, +1s/+1ws/+1a sword Lvl 2 on Fire w/ Scroll BSB w/ Sword of Anti Heroes
BSB w/ Talisman of Preservation Firebelly w/ Dispel Scroll & Ruby Ring
8 Guts w/ Full Command & Dragonhide Banner 8 Bulls w/ Full Command
6 Scouting/ Swiftstride Maneaters w/ Std, Muso & Gleaming pennant. 3x Add Hand Weapons 6 Leadbelchers w/ Muso 6 Leadbelchers w/ Muso 3 Mournfang w/HA & Ironfists Sabretusk Sabretusk Sabretusk
Meet and Engage This game was a 3 turn tabling by the Ogres. My opponent really did not prepare for the Maneaters who deployed behind him. He tried to rectify and made a silly error opening up a rear charge & a flank charge to the Ogres and he last 2 blocks and 2 characters on turn 1. The Mournfang ate some knights, the Leadbelchers obliterated another. Sabretusks kept the Skullcrushers out of the game. Everything just went my way and the Maneaters just ruined all of his plans
MVP: Maneaters eating a 600+ point unit in one turn.....ouch
Game 2
Now was time for something completely different. One character - and it was a tyrant. No magic whatsoever and no BSB. Oh and I was playing the highly rated Giant and scraplauncher........well in for a penny in for a pound!
Tyrant w/ Kineater, Talisman of Preservation
8 Guts w/ Full Command & Dragonhide Banner 9 Bulls w/ Full Command
6 Scouting/ Swiftstride Maneaters w/ Std, Muso & Gleaming pennant. 3x Add Hand Weapons 5 Leadbelchers w/ Muso 5 Leadbelchers w/ Muso 3 Mournfang w/HA & Ironfists Sabretusk Sabretusk Sabretusk
Scraplauncher Giant
This game was going to be more of a challenge. With no magic, no BSB and some really quite low regarded stuff in the list I really couldn't afford to make any mistakes.
The mission we rolled was Battle for The Pass (short table edge deployment), He set up strongly central and due to the sheer volume of stuff I had I was quite spread across the board. The Maneaters once again deployed bang behind the enemy lines ready to cause havoc!
He sent his Lord & 19 guys against the maneaters who eventually succumber - but this 350pt unit trimmed his warriors down to 5 men and kept his lord out of the game for a fair while which was really helpful, I am loving the new unit of maneaters!!!! It was a bit of a war of attrition in the middle with a few combats won or lost by 1 point, the combats of note however were, 1) The Tyrant and Ironguts decimating a unit of warriors in one turn (gogo Dragonhide) opening up the Skullcrushers flank and 2) The Giant Jumping up and down to beat up 19 Warriors and a Sorceror over 2 turns and then overrunning. He later finished off the one remaining Skullcrusher. All in all an absolutely solid win for the 1 character Ogre army. Huzzah!
MVP: Giant & Tyrant for sheer damage and Maneaters for tactically keeping a ruinous Chaos Lord out of the game!
So in the end 2 wins for 2 different and rather unorthodox (for me) Ogre lists. And my newly painted Maneaters and Tyrant really caused difficulties for my opponent.
And here's a picture of the maneaters in question because, well, why not!

Taking the Ironblaster out for its first test drive tomorrow!
Am playing a mate after work, I think it's Orcs and Goblins or may be Brettonians. He wants to play a smallish game so we are going for 1500pts. I'm thinking of the following:
Firebelly w/ Dispel Scroll & Potion of Speed
Bruiser BSB w/ Crown of Command, Heavy Armour & Ironfist
7 Ironguts w/ Full Command, LO Gnoblar & Std of Discipline 10 Gnoblars
The game ended up being over really quickly due to some bizarre luck in the game. We rolled Battle for the Pass and had a couple of bits of magic terrain knocking around but they didn't really affect the game too much!
Deployment was
Doom Diver - Orc Boyds - [Forest] - Big Uns - Boar Boys - Doom Diver
I got first turn in what was probably the most important roll of the game!
In my turn I ran a tusk straight in front of the Big Uns & Boar Boys hoping to tempt them into a charge or slow them down at the least. The Mournfang moved into a good distance to get a charge on the normal boys the next turn and the trappers pushed on. The magic phase was a bust but In the shooting phase the Leadbelchers killed 2 boar boys and the Ironblaster took out a Doom Diver. Not too shabby!
In the OnG first turn the boys failed a charge on the mournfang (needing a 10) and stood nice and close to the mournfang (Mwahahaha) and the big uns failed a frenzy test and had to charge the Sabretusk. The magic phase he got the +3S/ +3A spell on his shaman and nothing else. Shooting was a bust. Combat the sabretusk disappeared in a cloud of gore and the Big Uns ran 12", stopping about 2" away from the leadies.
The Big Turn! Mournfang hit the Boys and the Ironguts and Trappers both charge the flank of the Savage Orc Big Uns. Nothing in the magic phase again. In shooting the Leadbelchers and Ironblaster finish off the Boar Boys.
COMBAT! The Mournfang easily beat the boys in combat, but they are Stubborn on LD8......10.......11.....THEY ARE GONE! The mournfang run down the boys and the BsB. In the IG/ Boyz combat the Firebelly pops his breath attack and the sheer volume of great weapon hits rain down. Combat Won.....by 18!!!!! They fail the double 1 and are run down.
At this point there is only a Doomdiver left and Stu graciously concedes.
Though it was a short game, with a couple of different rolls it could really have gone either way. Me getting first turn and him failing his frenzy roll were really big occurances and won the game for me.
MVP: Excluding dice rolls it has to be the individual sabretusk. He pulled the enemy out of position and set up a great flank charge which was the key moment of the game.
Stu is a great guy and a cracking opponent (next time I envisage the pain train rolling home!) and we'll definitely got another game in the near future!

@ Zolas & MasteroDisastero - It really was, with the lists we had and it being a small game it was going to be brutal one way or another. If my opponent had a couple of extra small units I think that would have made it longer. And yes - Sabretusks are for me one of the best selections in the book!
@ JFB324 - Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it, I will try and get some more on when I manage to get more games in (looking like the new year as something big is occuring next week.....)

Sorry it's been so long, Christmas and all that jazz. No more pictures sadly (boooooooo!) but a new unit has been built (yay!)! My unit of "10 Trappers" has finally been assembled after much fighting with chains, superglue and an elf...........
Hopefully I'll get it painted up this weekend as the bits I need for my third trapper unit have been ebayed so should be here next week and I can start annoying my mates with 3 units of Trappers at a time...mwahahaha!
Sadly the flaming skull piece off of the "Dreadfire Portal" fulcrum seems to be the most elusive model part ever so my next conversion is looking like a forlorn hope

You're right SeBM, those last photos are dreadful - I was taking them before work and very sleepy. Whacked a mini photo area up today to take some photos of my new toys (Hydra, Arachnarok & "Gorgers George", as well as my Giant thats been painted for a long while.
The Hydra & Arachnarok have been sitting there for a while, the Hydras been part finished for a few weeks so I finished it up Sunday and did the Arachnarok too as it was sat there looking at me, they're both for SoM but the Arachnarok may be a stand in Stonehorn at some point too as I want to test it out.
The Gorger I picked up on Tuesday as I don't own one and thought I should!!!
the Giant is a semi-regular pick for me. Generally dreadful sometimes he just destroys the opponent and wins games for me - not even joking!!!
Hope these are better:
HYDRA
ARACHNAROK
GIANT
GORGERS GEORGE
I also did a intro game for a colleague last night, such good fun!!! I used my Skaven army and he chose the Ogres. I'd made 2 even lists out and tried really hard to make them balanced which seemed to work as he won (winning an intro game, who'da thunk it ) but I managed to make it a balanced game where he still lost some bits and pieces. As it was an intro game I won't do a report but the more amusing pieces of activity:
Mournfang eating a Doonwheel only to be stomped by some Rat Ogres
Ironguts charging a horde of Plaguemonks only to be decimated. The plague priest caused 3 wounds on a firebelly in one turn - with no magic items.....
Thanks for reading and I hope you liked the models!

Skaven and Ogres are great armies to collect together as they play so differently! The problem with Skaven is that no matter how much I paint I seem to have another hundred or so models still waiting (current painted model count for Skaven is around 300)....
I'll probably just post them here on the Stronghold as it is the only warhammer forum I've found that I like the community!

The new chaos models are simply awesome. But as I'm not a WoC player and have no intention of being so I had to find a way to work some of them into my army. The Dragon Ogres are my favourite models so I had the idea of turning them in substitute Rhinox riders - they are big, look mean, tough & as though they can dish it out!!!
I wanted them to have heavy armour & Ironfists so a weapon swap and some extra armour was a must and then I needed to change the heads (and greenstuff the giant gaps!) so that they looked more "Ogrey" and less "Chaosy".
Anyway, here's the pics:

The Stonehorn is nearly done! Hopefully tonight I should be able to finish him off (as long as League of Legends doesn't get in the way too much). I now have a difficult decision to make.
What next?
The options currently are:
- Thundertusk (may buy anyway as want the pelt for the hunter conversion
- Box of 6 Bulls for conversions to: Hunter, Maneater, 2x Slavedrivers (Gnoblars) leaving me 2 spares
- 2 Mournfang
- Start working through the special characters (probably Bragg to start).
I am thinking I might pick up the bulls + Thundertusk for conversion central as there are loads of nice bits on that kit (plus the spares from the Stonehorn + MFC).

Evening all,
So not any models painted today but I have started converting 3 new ogres, the greenstuff is currently drying on them.
I did do something else hobby related though, no not playing a game silly - taking photos. My good friends Andy & Gary are setting up a painting company and so I have done some photos for them so thought I would share. The page is on facebook here https://www.facebook.com/WanderingStudios?ref=stream&hc_location=stream.
Hope you like the models (and my photos ), if you did, especially if after commissions, have a look!

So I was at Warhammer World recently and a friend was playing against some Ogres and the guy had a Thundertusk.....nice model I thought. I really need to add some big beasts to my army - enter the Stonehorn above.
It was a fun model to paint but I can't really have one of those without adding the Thundertusk as well, so I've managed to paint one of these bad boys up too!
I picked up some spare bodies as well so I could play with some conversions.
First up a slaver for a "hopefully will get painted but probably not" gnoblar unit:

So I played 3 games this weekend, resulting in 3 wins! Go Ogres!!!
The games were:
- 5000pts vs Goblins. We used the "Invasion Scenario" in the back of the rulebook. - 500 (1000)pts doubles game. Pitched Battle, Empire & Ogres v WoC & WoC - 4000pts vs Warriors of Chaos. Pitched battle with some special rules.
Here are the highlights:
5000pts vs Goblins - Invasion Scenario
I was the attacker. This scenario is just not very fun sadly, it can turn into a negative game if the defender wants it to. Luckily Nick is a great opponent and therefore we managed to have a great game. 5000pts meant I got to try loads of new toys out, yhetees, a gorger, thundertusk, stonehorn and still space for my Tyrant.
I started the game massively on the back foot as not only was I the attacker but thanks to Skarsnik nearly half of my army was in reserve (on a roll of a 6 for each unit!!!!). It took a while for me to present a threat but in the end I won for 2 reasons.
1) I used Braingobbla to cause a LD test on a mangler colossal squig (LD 3). He then ran into a horde of snotlings, locking them in combat and massively ruined that entire flanks plan.
2) My Stonehorn was ruinous on the other flank taking out a Giant, an Arachnarok and most of Skarsniks unit with a little help from a Gorger. He eventually died to a Goblin spearmen but is turning into a favourite!
MVP: Stonehorn. Just ruinous!
Honorable Mention: Slaughtermaster for that one spell (despite dieing to a 35pt spearchukka) Honorable Mention: Skarsnik for stopping half the Ogre army turning up
LVP: Yhetees & Ironguts. At no point did they get anywhere near combat after suffering Skarsniks ire
500 (1000)pts doubles game
We had a rule here of no minimum unit size so I was using:
Firebelly 3x Ironguts 2x Single Mournfang 3x Single Leadbelcher
Me and my empire mate just outplayed the opponent and every time we charged there was an empire block backed by Ogres so even with some less than amazing rolling we stacked the combat res in our favour.
MVP: The one leadbelcher that nobably sacrificed himself the keep a unit of Maruader Horseman and a Skullcrusher out of the game
LVP: Any warrior of Chaos, they died like they were goblins
4000pts vs Warriors of Chaos
There were a few special rules in this game but none came into play. I used my campaign special rule assassin to try and kill of Archaon before the game but to no avail.
Being faced with a massive battleline of Chaos I opted for a refused flank. He had first turn and shoved most of a chaos army in my face......I was genuinely concerned about my ability to deal with it all. In my turn I managed to declare and complete 7(!!!!) charges, most of these were 2 units into 2 to try and ensure Ogre victory.
The dust cleared and suddenly things looked good for the ogres, every unit charged had been wiped out......including Archaon, Skullcrushers and a unit of 10 knights. All in all about 2000pts (half his army) had gone down T1.....I had lost about 2 models thanks to the Thundertusk in the middle of the chaos giving his ASL bubble.
The rest of the game was just picking stuff up after that. My luck can be shown by the fact I lost one combat all game......and got snake eyes to stay.
MVP: Thundertusk! That ASL aura just allowed me to delete a couple of units with no reply. Would be fun to try in a MSU army....
Honorable mention: The Firebelly with Hellheart causing his Lvl 4 to dimensional cascade kill himself, cause the Lvl 2 to take a wound and finish all hopes of a chaos comeback.
LVP: Archaon, 650+pts of nothing. Could be horrible in the right games but got no chance to prove himself.
So that was my Friday + Saturday days of gaming. Was great fun to have some bigger games, though it's a shame the last one was so one sided, but with 2 in your face armies sometimes that just happens.
The Stonehorn in both games I used it was just ruinous, it dominated every charge - the not rolling to hit and getting 3D3+3 impact hits (my dice were too good to not roll a 10 literally EVERY TIME) just destroyed all before it.
Looking forward to this weekend, got a couple more games planned including another doubles game (same teams as above) but at 2400 + 600pts of SoM monsters.
Cheers

It was a Colossal Squig not a mangler - my bad. Hence why it got stuck in combat.

Another weekend and another 2 more games campaign games, I carried on with the "Loadsa Monsters" as I'd tried to do the week before.
Game 1 - 2000pts vs WoC
My list was a thing of beauty (in my eyes) - really fun though tiny as only 2000pts:
310 Lvl 4 Slaughtermaster w/ D Scroll 180 Bruiser BSB w/ Armour of Destiny 480 10 Ironguts w/ Full Command, LO Gnoblar & Std of Disc 25 10 Gnoblars 220 3 Mournfang w/ Muso 220 3 Mournfang w/ Muso 21 Sabretusk 21 Sabretusk 21 Sabretusk 250 Stonehorn 250 Thundertusk
33 models at 2000pts and 10 of those are Gnoblars! Either way it was going to be brutal. His list was:
Lvl 3 Daemon Prince of Tzeentch w/ Tzeentch Lvl 2 Tzeentch on Disc w/ metal and extra spell BsB
Another small but brutal army. It was going to be hard against this list, 2 rediculously hard to kill flyers (and no cannons!) as well as 6 Skull Crushers. Mournfang are silly good but those things take the biscuit frankly!
We were playing a "King of the Hill" game (watchtower but a hill not a tower), in addition to this - if you were withing 6" of the hill at the start of the magic phase a random effect would occur.
Game highlights
1) He flew his Daemon prince forward, I charged it on a suicide run with my Thundertusk hoping to hold him up for a couple of Turns. My random effect gives me flaming attacks.....he has a Dragonhelm - D'oh! Over 2 rounds of combat the Thundertusk kills the Daemon Prince.
2) Mournfang flank attacks. Having a unit on each flank I managed to bait him around and set up flank charges on a Jugger unit and an overrun into his Sorceror.
All in all my "Pincer" tactic worked and I managed to wipe him out and claim the hill!
MVP: Thundertusk for going boss mode and downing a Daemon Prince Honorable Mention: His Chaos Warrior champion for slaying said Thundertusk the turn after (and getting ye of the Gods for it!) LVP: Gnoblars. They were a deployment drop, and only moved 4" all game
Game 2 - Ogres & Empire vs WoC & WoC
This game was 2400 +2400 doubles where every player had 600pts(ish) of Storm of Magic monsters for a healthy 6000pts a side game.
Me and Jack planned are armies to be: - Empire magic, warrior priests, Steam tanks and shooting - Ogres monsters and hitty units
The 3 warrior priests sat in Ogre units for the re-rolls! It was a fun little tactic we found but made no real difference to the game.
This game was just mental - on our side the list of monsters we had were:
Thundertusk
Hunter on Stonehorn
Stonehorn
Warpfire Dragon
Hydra 1
Hydra 2
Manticore
Storm Dragon
Steam Tank 1
Steam Tank 2
And that was just one side of the table! The game was really fun but came down to, we had a plan, they did not. We planned our lists to work together and then played a refused flank game to minimise the chance of having to face a million (or 12) skullcrushers and all the monsters at the same time. We won the flank we were on and then proceeded to piecemeal the army over the remaining turns.
MVP: Cannons managing to take down the Exalted Unclean One before it ruined our army Honorable Mention: One of the Steam tanks just blocking loads of his army off and not dying LVP1: Hunter on Stonehorn Died T2 without causing a wound.... LVP2: Little Warpfire Dragon - don't even bother ever taking it, it is dreadful!
So the Ogre win streak continues!
We won the campaign Good 5 - 1 Evil in the end but it was good fun the whole time through
Cheers

So I've not done much hobby recently (gaming or painting) though I did play a game against the new Dark Elf book on the weekend so thought I'd write a little battle report.
My mates played first Warriors (knight list) vs Dark Elves (Hellebron list) and the DE won a narrow victory. Then is was the Ogres turn!
Ogres
Ignore the slight illegality of the list - we agreed the hunter could be the general but that he didn't have an inspiring presence.
Hunter on Stonehorn w/ Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, Pot of Foolhardiness & Beserker Sword Hunter w/ Crown of Command, Other Tricksters Shard, Enchanted Shield & GW
9 Ironguts w/ Full Command 6 Ironguts w/ Full Command
RAAAAAAAAWR!!!!!! MONSTERS! A dual hunter list, one on foot with a block of 8 doggies and another mounted on a Stonehorn. Throw in another stonehorn, a thundertusk & 6 Mournfang you have a tough, fast army - that's before you face the small issue of 15 Ironguts.....
Dark Elves
Morathi (flying lvl 4....and I have no shooting. Bugger)
Death Hag BSB
30 Witch Elves w/ FCM 10 Darkshards 10 Darkshards
3x 5 Shades (this time with great weapons) Cold one Chariot 2x Hydras 24 Executioners w/ FCM 2x Bolt Throwers
A similar list from last time but with him knowing that I would probably avoid Hellebron like the plague he swapped her out for Morathi, who I'd never be able to kill (or could I??) The inneffective Cold One Knights made way for a tasty block of Executioners (striking at initiative, Str 6 rerolling 1s to wound - very tasty).
The Game
I totally forgot he'd dropped Hellebron from the first game versus warriors. He had left the model in the unit as a unit champion and my brain just did quite kick into gear and realise, he had told me but I just did not take it into account. Therefore my entire game strategy was take whatever magic/ shooting he could lay on me to the face (Morathi casting on +6 +D3 vs my no mages left me really no choice) and try and be very aggressive whilst avoiding Hellebron (not Hellebron) like the proverbial plague.
Set up. He deploys quite traditionally, blocks in the middle monsters on either flank and shooty units towards the back. I went deployed flank (heavy on my right) with a hunter and a unit of mournfang over on the left. When he realised what I was doing he focused a bit more on the side where I was more heavily deployed.
With his +1 from having not many units he got first turn. Not really any movement bar flying Morathi into magic range. He killed a couple of Sabretusks from the big unit but then couldn't kill of either of the lone ones as the T4 is just too strong! Magic hurt. My general took 3 wounds and his Stonehorn another 3 - looking like a very vulnerable unit now!
My turn was charge city. Well it should have been. My hunter/sabretusks unit needed to roll a 6 to get into his darkshards and managed an almighty 4 (on 3 dice). Morathi fled and audacious 16" charge from my Stonehorn who redirected into a Cold one chariot. The mournfang charged quite centrally into a unit of Shades. The charge I made were won in pretty much with impact hits alone. A hydra also got scared and ran away in front of my other thundertusk (unit destroyed within 6")
The DE turn 2 was a mixed bag. Magic did nothing as he failed a boosted spell and only having one caster meant nothing could happen. Shooting knocked off a couple of Sabretusks and one bolt thrower whiffed whilst the other killed my hunter borne aloft the Stonehorn. In combat his executioners charged up the board and wiped out a unit of Mournfang without reply. To quote kids these days " #brutal "
My turn was offensive. I got a tusk 1" away from Hellebrons (not Hellebrons) unit so to stop her charging. Combo'd the Thundertusk & 6 Ironguts into the Executioners, Stonehorn #1 into darkshards, Stonehorn #2 into the Hydras flank & Hunter/Dogs into sme Drakshards. All 4 combats were solid victories for the Ogres though the executioners remained steadfastly (though I realised in the excitement I forgot to attack with the Thundertusk & riders - 10A wasted......d'oh).
By this point he is worried - his bolt throwers are about to get charged by a stonehorn, the witch elves are still trying to do anything and being stopped by a pesky dog that just will not die, Morathi is struggling to do anything meaningful and everything else bar a hydra & shades is dead. He charges the Hydra into the mournfang and the shooting/ magic is sub par (dog in front of witches still lives). The hydra dies in a round to the MFC. The executioners go down allowing me to reform.......to face Morathi.
In my turn I wipe out everything that remains bar Hellebrons (not Hellebrons) unit and everything repositions to charge the unit. "Haha I reckon I can finally take Hellebron out!" I triumphantly laugh. "Ummm.....Hellebrons not in the army numnuts.".
So a tabling by the most aggressive Ogre army I have made, great fun game. Well for me - the Dark elves were probably less amused.
MVP: Everything in the Ogre army, did exactly what was needed. LVP: Me not realising about BLOODY HELLEBRON.
Final Thoughts
The DE book is awesome, and can be really varied. 7 monster list? Witch Elf Khainite list? Can't touch this fast shooty list? ALL of them are viable, and look decent. Some parts look really strong (all 8 lores, really??), some weaker (medusa at 90pts!) but overall I think there are a lot of lists than can be made that are going to be really, really fun and I'm excited by the prospect of more games against it.
