Christmas Dilemma!

original thread ↗

So, my wife needs help finding me a gift around $50 that I would AND that should be "fun" (ie no tools, office stuff, etc.).

Problem: She said no Warhammer stuff or Magic: the Gathering cards, my two biggest collection items.

So... I can't find anything that I've really liked otherwise.

Any tips or ideas? Any inspiration to help me help her would help me help her, and that's helpful. :D
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

Take up Warmachine ;)

All the starter boxes are on the $50 mark and give you a good start to an army. Plus they are all legal forces so you can start playing immediatly.
Current win streak: 10

Things Fluffy,my Stonehorn, has flattened: Ancient Stegadon, Unit of 5 Chariots with Tomb king, Chaos Lord, Herald of Khorne on Jugger,

Possibly a few black library books if you like reading?  I know it could technically be warhammer but I assume your wife means the models side of it.  :D

Chuck Norris was the fourth wise man and gave Jesus his favorite gift, a beard. The other wise men were so hacked off, they got Chuck Norris removed from the bible. Mysteriously, they all later died of Roundhouse kick related injuries.
Anything that involves fire.
I would be dead right now were it not for the heroics of Skywalker!

Dreadball! A fast, fun game very similar to Blood Bowl but in the future! Look up mantic games and find "Dreadball"!

That actually looks quite good imo.  :D

it's epic and the starter set is only $50 and are all legal lists. Plus any player teams after that are dirt cheap ($12 for 8 models?!?!)
I'm liking these ideas so far! I might mention them to her ;)

I think she may also possibly get me Guild Wars 2 via Amazon (only $44 ish atm), but of course I can't be certain :D

btw... where would you even find any Warmachine/Horde players? I guess, if I did get into those games, I'd find the players, but it would seem to me that they'd be harder to find than WHFB players.

Guild wars is an epic game, I got it on Steam for €35 so maybe hang tough for a sale.
Warmahordes players are hard to find but if you do get into it, you could always persuade people to try it and who knows? More players! Warmahordes is very good as there aren't any rule spamming going on. Special characters are a bit broken but they are rarely used (we play without them).
Dreadball is an easy to start up game. You could just buy a starter set, have two legal and COMPETITIVE (well to the game's point of balance) teams already and you can start a league! Everyone just pick a team between the Humans, Orks, Dwarfs or the Skaven (different names of course) and you can each play for the "CUP". Winning the cup allows your team money for new players, more players, etc.
Of course I'm not trying to dictate what you buy but you have some great options right there :-)
Is she at all into games?   The new Star Trek Catan looks pretty sweet.  Picked it up, but havn't played it yet myself.  Runs $40 to 50 most places (including Target).
Sadly, no, she's not a huge gamer (it's our "opposites attract" touch; she's a big movie person and I'm not, while I'm a big gamer and she's not :P). So, any game-like stuff like a boardgame or cardgame or anything like that tends to be out of the question. It's tough, but we manage ;) hehehe

Your wife is using euphemism. She wants to buy "bedroom" toys. Sorry to break it to you so roughly.

Let's keep it clean shall we?
So I'm guessing paint and modeling supplies are out of the question as well? How about supplies to build your own terrain? Or maybe a pre-paid Visa card or something of the sort....in order to buy warhammer or magic stuff.

There's gotta be a way around this. Hahaha

But really, I've heard nothing but good reviews about GW2...been thinking about picking up a copy for myself next time I see it on sale (whenever that will be....)
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!

Dude. She doesn't need bedroom toys with me. ;)

...ok. I'll be good here on in. Sorta. ;)

So, it sounds like my wife has something in mind already. I showed her some of these ideas, and I think she felt really inspired. If, by giggling and rolling her eyes means that she felt really inspired, that is. :P

Or she likes our little jokes here ;-)
You can find a used nook color for around that.  Root it and you have a decent tablet for battle scribe and movies.
This limit of $50, can go a long way, provided your mind isn't stuck in a "gaming gutter" 24/7.

A gift card to a place you enjoy eating at, maybe you have other hobbies, something to excel your position at your place of employment.

As much as I enjoy receiving GW products, sometimes you're better off reconnecting with family, over the holidays.

... Or, you can throw all this "mush" into the wind, and just slap $50 in a card XD

When your opponent has the upper hand ... blow it off! *har, har*

I agree! However, my wife's against gift cards, because they're not really "presents," more like excuses for not really getting to know the person (that's my view, sorta, too :P maybe I'm a tad extreme on that thinking).

I think about what other hobbies I have, and the sad part is... I don't, really, have any, anymore. lol... I played a bit of Magic: the Gathering a while back, and I run a D&D group, but M:tG isn't that great of a gift for me these days, and I have all the D&D books I ever could want/need.

I have been considering looking up Pathfinder books, though... ;) lol...

Are there any non-Black Library novels out there that anyone would care to recommend? I already have almost all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels (love them!), and I would consider looking into other novelists of a similar nature (comedic medieval fantasy era).

This is a definite case of aussie slang getting in the way, because I was wondering why you would do that to a tablet and would you need some kind of hole saw.

As for my recommendation, I've recently started reading Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series, which has been really good, though they lean towards the grittier side.

If you haven't read The Dresden Files, it's urban fantasy (rather than medieval) and tends towards a humourous bent
