Person 2#: An ogre codex written by Matt ward? *PUNCH* *THUD*
Person 1#: NO! they're making another Maneater quest!
Person 3#: what's so great about that? *STAB*
Person 1#: BY THE MAW WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
That's right folks I'm back! You may not have heard or seen this but I ran a play by post quest based around maneaters. It was well received but died suddenly when my finals came around.
I want to begin anew.
And I need players.
A group of six volunteers will join me in an epic quest of battle and gluttony.
Or as many as I can get.
Post here if you wish to join. If you ran with me when I last did this you get an automatic pass to the quest (as if there would be line) On Sunday I will message those who will join me. And the character creation begins.
On Monday the game begins.
If you have questions ask me in this thread.
May the maw give you strength.

Alright seems we have enough people to start playing!
Now for character creation.
Its simple to make, if you have played warhammer Which I trust you all have. Stat out characteristics using standard warhammer stats or if you prefer warhammer fantasy rpg stats.
Then describe your maneater.
What weapons, clothing and personality he has and maybe a back story. Add in what special skills he has also. For example like scout or poisoned attacks.
Then name him.
After that I will judge him if he is too powerful or not. Then after you're all done we begin.

Sure have my friend! I made a slight change to Drok. Since playing in the previous campain I really liked how he kept to his sneaky ranged role and thus I have replaced swiftstride with sniper to reflect this more!
Drok Elfeater Drok loves Elven meat. Sure them are skinny and all, but its the fairest meat in the wide world, it just smelts on yer tongue! That is why Drok has set out on a young age as a maneater in search of Elflings. He even got some training from his Uncle Drak, a local hunter, who taught him how to be as sneaky as an Elf...well, not really, but as sneaky as an Ogre can be! Since then Drok hunts Elves of any kind and over the years has gotten pretty good at it too!
His diet of Elven flesh however has denied him the size of Gut an Ogre his age should have however and allthough he is still as strong as a bull, he is somewhat leaner and agile then other Maneaters he encounters and somewhat less tough. Hunting Elves of many kinds has made sure he learned their ways and although Drok might look less impressive in girth and muscle then his companions, he has a very sharp mind and is quicker and more agile then them all, preferring to strike silently from afar instead of the usual loud attack manouvres typical for his kind.
Skills Sniper Scout
Weapons 2 handweapons (1 Dark Elf Draich / 1 High Elf White Lion Axe) 2 Dark Elf repeater crossbows (instead of pistols)
Armour A varied collection of Elven armour and equipment, including Sea dragon cloaks, White lion pelts, Dragon armour and a piece of Druchii jewelry even Droks body could not digest.

Well my Maneater is called Bullgruf Stonesmasher Backstory: Bullgruf was, (and still is) a rough child. He wanted to be a Stonehorn when he grew up. When he went to play with other little guts, they all bruised easily and excluded him for being so rough. Eventually, Bullgruf found a stonehorn slamming a mountain, and challenged the stonehorn. He began punching the mountain, until the mountain broke and Bullgruf stood tall above the rubble. The Stonehorn admired his primitive strenght and followed him wherever he went. He was named "Ruckus" or "Rok". Bullgruf ventured far and wide, making a living as a sell sword. He helped his fellow bellies in the North. Took part in an Impiral excursion in Lustria. Cleared the sewers of the skaven plague single handedly in Bretonnia. But his greatest feat was helping the dwarves. The dwarf lord Vilgromaar had warred with the Orc Warboss Gut-Rippa for many years. The Orcs led a massive attack on his stronghold and Bullgruf was hired. As the Orcs approached, Bullgruf and Ruckus destroyed mountains and cliffs, crushing every single green-skin for miles. Vilgromaar was so pleased that he forged a dwarven warhammer and gromril armour for him and Ruckus. Bullgruf now has heard the call of Gantherogue, and is awaiting his reply. ;-) Favourite Food: Anything really. Even rocks are enjoyable by Bullgruf. Weapon of choice: If he's not pummeling something to mush with his fists, then he's using his special warhammer. Armour: Gromril armour fitted to his size. Skills: Immune to psychology. ( I'm not sure about the second one. Maybe something with the same rules as poison to symbolise his crushing blows? Really hope you pick me and Bullgruf, of course the Stonehorn is for fluff and if you don't ewant him than he won't take him but if you do, well here you go!

I would suggest killing blow.

I am not too sure about Ws, I think the 4 might be fine (but you are the GM) I don't really mind with Inniative. Oh yeah, his fists counts as two hand weapons and his warhammer is a great weapon. Ruckus is a normal stonehorn. (Did I do that right? Sorry if I didn't. I'm new to this)

Stats are changed Just to get some stats out of the way: The Honorable Gutspit: Guard. Having seen the magic of Chaos destroy many of his friends and paymasters, Gutspit mistrust all magic users, regardless of their intent. stats M WS BS S T I W A LD SV 6 3 4 4 5 4 3 3 8 6+ Equipment: "Witch Hunter" a rifle designed for delivering a heavy payload at better than average range at the cost of a small clip, a long reload time and noise (which Gutspit does not regard as a disadvantage)."Chaos Smasher" a giant rune hammer that comes alive when trying to smash through magical protection. "Drumbeards Tears" Talisman of Magic Resistance. Light Armor. Skills: ItP, Beast tamer, better than average hygiene. Tell me if the stats should be changed, as I am rather new to this. I would like to be a relatively all around ogre, with skills learned from being a Witch Hunter's henchman and guarding a Dwarven Hold for quite awhile. Being a hunter of sorts would also be nice.

Cool thanx. Think I'm going to use my own tyrant's story for this (he is a maneater himself anyway)
Not sure how my stats should look, but my equipment will be as follow (if it can):
Ogre name: Droghbarr Goldfist Weapon: Great Weapon Armour: Full Plate Special Rules: Power hungry - Will always try to fight the strongest opponent available to prove his strength to those around him Short Tempered - Easily angered by minor annoyances (could have this give him hatred maybe?)
Backstory: Dreadfully sorry to bother you my lord..
Yes what is it? growled the figure bent over the maps spread over the massive oak table in the center of the war chamber. The rain had started pelting the gothic arched windows, trying to knock them out of the white marble walls. The cold was trying to creep in through every crack and was aching to seep into the bones. Winter had come early this year.
"My lord, your uhm... guest has arrived" said the page nervously by the door.
"Send him in."
As the servant turned to leave, Count Ludwigg von Drak had already dismissed him from his thoughts. He knew he would have to play these next few moments with a deft hand, otherwise it might be his turn for the headman's block. He cursed under his breath and wished he didn't have to deal with this... savage!
But the Emperor's decision for all the military assets the Empire and its nobles could muster; to be focused to the growing threat in the north, made it impossible for him to deal with this problem on his own. He didn't want to think what might happen to him should the Emperor find out how much money he was spending to pursue his own goals when the entire Empire knew how important the northern threat was.
The doors opened as Count Ludwigg was still lost in thought. He looked up and saw what must probably have been the largest ogre in the world duck and squeeze through the richly carved double doors. This beast wore what seemed to have been various parts of knight's armour, bashed and stitched together to fit over his immense frame. Every time one of its feet hit the checkered tiles of the hall it felt as if the foundations of the citadel were shifting.
It also carried what seemed to be some kind of ancient and rusting bladed staff draped over its grotesquely decorated shoulder. The weapon and ogre gave of the impression that it was capable of slaying three knights along with their mounts with a single strike.
His tiny and obviously stressed page started rambling: "I tried explaining to him that no one may appear before your Grace while armed but he wouldnt and the men wouldn- ."
"You need not explain Jarl" interrupted the Count impatiently.
Count Ludwig could see some of the tension leave the man's shoulders. His eyes however, were exploring every nook and cranny in the room except for the rooms most definite and latest feature; the ogre. The mighty war chamber somehow seemed smaller and the obvious last place the poor man wanted to be.
"You are dismissed Jarl, tell the men not to bother my guest's companions" barked the Count. He had little patience for his tiny, spineless page.
"Thank you my lord." Jarl managed to squeak before ejecting himself from the room.
As the servant reached the door Count Ludwigg suddenly realized with a start that if this had been an organized assassination attempt it would have gone off without a hitch up to this point. He realized how alone he was in the room, alone with a monster that looked like it could kill a giant with its bare fists. Its eyes were disconcertingly small and smouldered with bloodlust. Pulling himself out of his reverie and organizing his thoughts, the count said: "Could I interest you in a drink friend ogre?".
"Cut de fancyness human. Ye send me a message that ye wanted ta do de business?" spat the orge.
Its voice sounded like the slow and guttural boom of a cannon barrage firing from the adjacent hill but Count Ludwigg had found his focus and inner silence; the same mental plane that he was taught to embrace during battle, he was completely calm and focused, he had planned the whole conversation to almost any outcome and was ready to start the negotiations; which he knew would have to be treated as a verbal duel (mayhap not an intellectual one).
"Indeed, I have heard that you have a band of mercenaries unlike any the world has ever seen, and that you rival even the great Golgfag Maneater of days past."
"Bah, no one be better than 'ol Golgfag... at least not yet hehe."
Count Ludwigg knew he had chosen the right tact and that this beast had ambitions of its own; he intended to use them to their full advantage. Anyone that did not know the Count would not have noticed as the corner of his mouth twitched up into a refracted smile for a split second.
"I need you and your... friends, to take care of a problem for me. I would deal with it myself, but because of political issues I must rely on alternative means."
"wat be de kinda problem?"
"Let's just say this problem struggles to stay dead..."
If he doesn't want to then leave it, but if he does then he should come along.

Well Gan told me to follow the normal stat line of a maneater and you tweak them with right judgement and stuff based on your character. Like I'm strong but not very leadership-worthy so I have a higher strenght but a lower Leadership etc.

Lemme git in on 'ere. Squire Jagermeister Urthstrider, was raised in the standard tribe way even fighting in his mate Skullsplitter's Ironguts. One campaign he found his way in to the Moot, enchanted the halflings cooking and talent for storytelling he stuck around. The local count of Stirland was visiting and had come under attack by on of the lesser VonCarstien thralls and warband. The count was so releived by Jager's assistance that he offered him a positon in his court, offical bodyguard and squire.

The local count of Stirland was visiting and had come under attack by on of the lesser VonCarstien thralls and warband. The count was so releived by Jager's assistance that he offered him a positon in his court, offical bodyguard and squire.
Welcome wee ogre. I is bigga den yer hur hur. Nah welcome. It's not for me to decide who joins but if ya want to play, Gantherogue is the GM.

If You still gave room for players, definitely interested.
Thinking of playing Brugg Lockjaw Cauldronbearer, an aspiring butcher/maneater who travels the Old World in search of new things to eat, and new spells to discover through gastromancy.

"Well 'eres to me" Maneater stats wont make me cry. Gear, OgreClub, IronFist, OgrePistol, Greatweapon, and a sword from a lady named Cathy?(some thinling in black pajamas came to kill the Count and didnt plan on Jager being there) His armor is a motley assortment of plate breast peices(over his breasts), chainmail and a custom Dwarfen GutPlate, that qualifys as heavy armor. Jager has a hard time throwing anything away, incase he gets hungry. He dresses in Stirlands common colors, with more than a few patc

There hasn't been much news regarding story lately. I wonder what dem lazy ogres are doin? "Oi Drok! Get yo butt down ere!"
Darkminion01 Dec 2012
Oh Im here friend....Lurking.....Allready posted my action so nothing to do but wait for the GM to tell what happens next.
He tells the story and plays everything around us....We are but mere players that control our characters.
You shall fear the warppuppies for the warppuppies have teeth and are hungry, and forsooth they have decided that thy are crunchy and taste good with ketchup
Well You are a bit late, I am not sure how Gantherogue is gonna squeeze in 3 more ogres at this time as we are currently about to fight... something. Gantherogue hasn't been on in a while so I'm not entirely too sure. Have you made stats? Do you know what gear you have? You use the stats a normal maneater has and you can tweak them with right judgement.
Torg01 Dec 2012
I already posted stats/equipment on this thread and they were approved by gantherogue. It's alright if I just sit out for awhile, or until Maneater 3.

Well I say you'l be introduced pretty soon. Aslong as Gantherogue gets a break. The way I see it, you could be upstairs fast asleep in the tavern!
Darkminion01 Dec 2012
Hey Torg,
I think Gant wont be posting this weekend. He'll squeze you in when he is back. Or you could just make a post and introduce yourself. Hell, you could have been sleeping behind the bar and just woke up over the sound or something.
As to how this works, it is quite easy. The players decide everything their characters do. The Gamemaster (or GM) being Gantherogue plays all our surroundings, npc, etc. In play by post games a certain level of assumption is often needed to keep the game going. For example:
in a face to face game if you want to order a drink it would go like:
player: Do I see a serving girl? GM: Yes, you see a young girl walking around with trays of drinks, she is just finishing at a table. player: I call out to her and raise my arm holding up three fingers GM: She doesnt seem to hear you for some reason player: I yell harder. GM: Nope, still not responding player: I throw an empty bottle at her
Sine play by post goes much slower most players are allowed to assume little things to keep the game going, since the short above example might take several hours or even days of posting while it is not very earthshattering stuff. So in a PBP game it is natural to post in a single post:
player: I sit down at a table, locate the serving wench and order some drinks. After that I just sit around and wait for the others to arrive.
Or something like that. Be carefull however to not take this too far. I found the action of Brainfreezer a good example of this. He made a post inventing a Captain in the bar, who was in love with the serving wench and he made a fight with him, punching him out in a broken heap.
This you cannot do (no attack on you Brainfreezer, I know it was just meant as a funny post, not to mess stuff up)(and it didn't) because inventing Non player character (npcs) and deciding how they react on the players is the job of the GM. If everybody in the game would just make stuff up as we go it would turn out to be unworkable in the end, so best leave that with the GM.
Further when making a post try to give it some flaver. Not every post has to be a page long of text, but it makes fun reading for others if some effort was put into it.
Text in Italic, like this - Are thoughts of a character. Offcourse others do not know these thoughts so do not directly react to them, but they give flavor to the character
In the end it all goes pretty easily and you'll be quick to addept, just try to have fun!

Brain. Just read your last post. Some friendly meant advice.
You just confirmed that there are zombies right outside the Inn and you have engaded with them, tearing off limbs.
It is for the GM to tell us that there are zombies there, not for us to simply invent them there. It seems very likely I agree that there will be a zombie attack looking at the titel and the fact what the dying guy screamed, but in fact all your character knows is:
" HELP! HELP! NO NOT THEM! Pl-please anyone! THEY'RE COMING! NO! YOU MUST FLEE!! FLEE THEY HUNGER !! FOR YOUR HEARTS YOUR FLESH AND NOOOOOO! S-SPARE MEEE!!!"
For all you know it is Beastmen, or Deamons, Vampires, Ghouls, a pack of wild wolves, well anything that gets hungry really. Besides that, you do not know how Gantherogue wants to introduce them into the story. Perhaps they are not right outside the Inn, but instead he wants to engage us further away where the beasts are attacking the guardhouse of the village or something.
I know you are just doing your best and are eager to go on, but I have seen a lot of games been ruined by this phenominon. Because now you are killing zombies, whats stopping Drok from posting he is looking out of the window and suddenly sees a terrorgheist decending on the village. Then MaanNaam is fighting off Nagash near the Well, while Torg decides that this is the time all the Dragons of Ulthuan awaken and save the village!
Not trying to be a dick here and telling you what to do, just trying to give you the guidelines of my experience with pbp games. I hope I am able to deliver this message in a friendly way (english is not my main language and social subtleties are sometimes hampered by this)

Sorry guys, I removed my earlier posts. Didn't think of it that way, and I see your point D. I was just a bit excited and was eager to play. Don't worry, I take no offence and see this as helpful feedback. Thank you for your kind yet serious phrasing (Your English is impeccable by the way. I too have learned English as my second language (Irish being my first)) Thanks Drok. I'l try to "contain" myself

I am glad you take it so well....Us Dutch and you Irish have allways went well together in my experience, so lets keep it that way aye?
It is really the best when a GM posts something like he did to make a single response all and then wait for him to reply. That way he wont get confused and can cover all our actions in his post.
This also is so once combat starts, if we keep posting new actions its not good. Because your first swing might be a critical miss and you might trip because of it. If you allready posted several actions after that first swing, well you can see that might become problematic.
Lets all just hope Gant will post soon and we can do some bashing finally!

Cloiseann mo chroí na focail sin! Comaidimid ar gcairdeas is ar sláinte! (Those words ring true! Lets keep our friendship and our health! A bit of an old Irish saying:-) Can't wait. I wonder how things are gonna go down. One question, do we use normal d6 I assume? Or something else?

It's a pity, as it has been over a month :-( Can anyone get in touch with Gan? I hope this topic doesn't die...

Very disapointing indeed. Don't know whats going on with Gantherrogue, but must be some RL stuff going on else he wouldn't start a game and abandone it immidiately after it starts...
