Of course, generic Mathhammer would also tell you not to go for heavy armour on your Maneaters (that happens cross-read some threads!), due to the ammount of S4+ unit out yonder.
But I still do equip my scouting, swiftstriding braces-of-ogre-pistols-toting Maneaters with it, due to the local conditions of facing lots of Str 3 units and the fact that being able to avoid 5 of 6 wounds suffered (against S4 or armourpiercing S3) may help you out of a tight spot. Why? That's one (heavily) wounded Ogre instead of a dead un, and scouting Maneaters might be a little way off from the Butcher's buff bubble, so they need some protection.
Seems like I still used a Mathhammer argument to support my preference for heavy armour. Call it insurance armour, if ye likes. But then, your mileage may vary.
