whats your opinions on using recast models?

original thread ↗

I was down in my local gw talking with one of the guys down there and the topic went onto people in china makeing copys of not only gw models but forgeworld alongside smaller companys like rackam. these are then sold threw websites and often good old ebay. from what i gatherd the models were a fraction of the price, a aracnarok spirder is about ten sterling.
Just so you know im not advertising this or saying its a good thing, its just some news in the community i thought i would share, like the  3d printer thing. Also i dont mean to offend anyone posting this up hear.
In order for you to have a look at the site, its web address is  coolcastornot.com  i belive theres lots of other out there too.
Your point is understood and it's good that you bring it up. My only problem with recast stuff is that the less profits GW makes, the worse the price hikes in the future will be. If it gets bad enough and they have to start shutting places down, well, that'll kill the hobby for sure.

Of course, I'm also a worst-case scenario guy, so I tend to see what could go wrong lol
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

43/101 Achievements earned! Woo! Got some of the tricky ones!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

GW shutting down their stores is the best thing that could happen for the hobby. They would stop losing money from that silly marketing strategy.

As for Recast stuff.

I personally have no problem with it, I have a few homemade things I've cast up myself(good luck identifying them)

Although at super competitive tournaments I would prefer people to use actual GW products. I paid the premium for GW products, you should too.
Current win streak: 10

ive done a little further research on the whole affair and it appears its quite easy to get hold of, theres a long time shipping but the price and quality seem to be very good.
One of my local gws closed there games nights and rumor has it that it could spread threw to other gws in the norrth of england, sadly i no longer feel any loyalty to the company. To be fair in the other gw nearer me you have to book the table and painting is nearly impossible-i cant justify buying there stormraven, not when it costs me 30 pound on line.
Never saw a "good" recast model, as making an exact copy is near impossible, even if an original model was used.

It's ok in "friendly" games, but I'd keep them at home.

As stated before, such practices will eventually cut into GW's profits, increasing prices and may kill GW altogether ...

Besides, I believe recasting models would be right up there with trampling over copyrights.
When your opponent has the upper hand ... blow it off! *har, har*
I think it's pretty unethical to buy with recast stuff. Using it is a little more grey.
