Warriors of Chaos (Gonna start gathering them.)

original thread ↗

So, I thought I should wait for the new book for them (if it comes as rumored), I've always wanted to gather them, just because..well..North rules. (Vikings, Nords of old etc.) :3 The reason for Ogres was North themed army of brutes. (that is how I see them. :D) and I know they are more like Mongols but.. ^^'

Reason why I didnt start to gather them was simply the idea of ruling the gaming board with army that has hellish strong AS and above average core units. (but now I think differently. :D)

I already have a Lord on Manticore underway (painting it slowly and as accurately as I can) and I thought of a list like this: (2000p)    (Warriors of Ymir)

1x Chaos Sorcerer Lord: Manticore, Upg 4, Mark of Nurgle.

1x Exalted hero: MoK, Shield, Soporific Musk, Collar of Khrone, Sword of Might

15x Warriors: FC, Shields, MoN, Festering Shroud
15x Warriors: FC, Shields, MoK, Rapturous Std
20x Marauders: FC, Shields, MoK
5x Hounds: poison
5x Hounds: poison

5x Knights: FC, MoS
5x Chosen: FC, Shields, Halberds

Thought of getting couple of chariots to make warshrine's and maybe more marauders? Also Hellcannon is quite must.

So, what ya think? Pretty newb list but.. :D
and any suggestions to make it fun & competitive. (or the other. :3 more to fun now, 'cause there is no tournament places close up yet, one shop is coming and is thinking of keeping a small tourneys but we shall see. :) )

Honestly I've never seen Marauders perform well.  Part of that issue is that most people here give them GWs, and my Bulls just obliterate them.

Might I recommend a Warshrine as well?  Preferably with the MoT.  As long as you're not do the double warshrine with a Chosen star horse-****, then most people don't complain, and it really is a great addition to the army.
I've thought of the shrine thing. :) Readed about it and it really sounds great. :D

And I really dont like that horse star combo thing with the shrines. :/ takes all the fun out of playing the army. (What I've noticed when reading battlereps.) And for the marauders, have to still think about the mark, thought of slaanesh, so that they wouldnt just run away and stay there as tar pit and let the others flank the one who charges. :/ (if this really works, then I'm going to stick to that tactic)

Also I've gotten the idea that not many uses the Manticore mount..well, it is expensive and you can get something better with the points but..I think it would perform well as hunting the warmachines and casting spells on your back. :P and still have some 'decent' fighting power in it. :)

Then you definitely want to go with a talisman of preservation and the MoT for added survivability

+1 on this lol... It's this alone why I can't wait for their new rulebook and the inevitable nerfing they're going to get.

Honestly, if they changed the shrine boosts to "end-of-turn" or "next shooting phase" instead of having it be a permanent change (until the next shrine boost), I'd be ok with that. Sorta.

And I've seen how Marauders could work, but when my opponent's Epidemius sucks himself into the warp first turn, it greatly diminishes the unit's potential. ;)

New book WLD: 21/10/3 - Haven't kept up on this! Solid win, followed by a good training-game tie!

Marauders work on the principle that you can't kill enough of them to be meaningful before they swing. And then you are dead.

GW marauders with the MoK are not cool to get hit with. But if you don't take a big enough unit(50+) then it won't make a difference.

I'll slam some Regenerating Bulls into the front and a unit of MFC into the side. The unit then evaporates before they swing.

It doesn't even have to be Trollguts.  Bulls with just about any kind of buff spell on them will seriously mess them up.  Trollguts helps mitigate the return damage, but I've found Wildform to be the most devastating.  going from wounding on a 3+ to a 4+ makes a big difference.

It makes a big difference, but seriously, for around what, 350 points, 50 GW Marauders of Khorne will absolutely wreck anything of even close-to-similar-points cost in a front charge.  Plus, they're cheap as chips (I'm really looking forward to the nerfing here) and you can and will have multiple units here.

Of course, with Frenzy, they're easy to bait of out position, but sooner or later you run right into the Chosen and that's a fight that is just plain tough to win.
Eat your Greenies!
Actually, for 350 you get 60 Marauders of Khorne, which is what a lot of people go for (heck, I've seen a tournament list with 2 units of those - nicely painted, too). Most lists just can't put enough of a dent on them to mitigate the return beating 40 Great Weapon attacks at WS4 provide.

My philosophy on gaming, courtesy of Herm Edwards.
Marauder hordes are rough, especially when backed by the chosenstar, as rothgar and Gutlord have stated.  Do not skimp on chaffe points, though.  Dogs and Marauder Horsemen are vital or you will spend all game chasing two eagles around or (worse) have your battle line stretched out and the marauders having to take break tests against isolated flank charges on their own leadership.

Also, be wary of character assasins on Monsterous cavalry mounts, which is a tactic I use a lot in my west coast metagame (lots of WoC out here) to stifle this army.  The mandatory challenge rule can be used against you to great effect by these kinds of characters.
668 The Neighbor of the Beast
The new WD has an update for WoC. I suggest you look into that 1st.

They are getting some pretty sick monstrous cav for 60 pts if you ask me...

Is it a full fledged WD codex ala the last one or just some unit additions?
668 The Neighbor of the Beast
It looks like just unit additions from what I've seen. No new rules for Shrines but a model, monstrous cav on juggy for rare, marauder Slannesh cav for special and some models for special characters.

Its pretty much like the Terrorghiest was for VCs. It got released a few monts before the actual book to build hype.
