Played a game this evening with a friend of mine who fielded a particularly nasty wood elf list. The majority was only glade guard, and while I thought that would be ok to match-up against, he took me to task! When I got to within 15" it all went wrong, 100+ bows wounding on 4s decimated my army in short order. What would you guys do if faced by this kind of list?

Some of our lore options have something to address ranged; Iceshard Blizzard, Curse of Anraheir, or maybe just sheer damage to eliminate shooting models. Alternatively (and more easily done) buffing up our toughness has helped me.
Magic aside, Ironcurse Icon is an auto-include when I'm going against a WM heavy army. If I can get my MFC into a unit of archers? Great. Beyond that? Template damage (TT/magic) and hauling butt across the table.

This - I think our speed is our greatest asset. Also, you can use globular screens to protect your own shooting units.

Wood elves hate fire double up on firebelly, the rest of magic was cover in other post.
A scrap launcher maybe, but I am sure he spreads out.
Gorges coming from behind might pressure him some.
Every one dismissed woodevles as week and easy. However they can straight deadly when in the right hands. Perhaps my thoughts of building a toothpick army will happen with there new book.

M6 and return fire from either magic missiles (Firebellies, Heavens SM's) or ranged weaponry (Leadbelchers, Ironblasters) generally does the trick. That, and Mournfangs. Mournfangs will run roughshod through pretty much an entire WE army while shrugging off their shots (S4? Meet 2+ armor saves!).

+2 to existing, not necessarily 2+. Sorry to nitpick.

100 archers? Leadbelchers shoot better.
If you use a combination of leadbelchers, mournfang/ scouting maneaters, ironguts Level 4 heavens or maw, firebelly, BSB you shouldn't have a problem.
The leadbelchers give first turn pressure with shooting. Mournfang put pressure on the units from turn 2 maneaters give pressure to the units from turn one or turn two (depends if you start or not) Just make sure maneaters are big enough.
Why heavens or maw? Maw has +1 toughness and regeneration. heavens has comets, the -1 to hit, reroll 6's and chained lightning. Beast could work too, but is less effective then maw

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

I play WE's fairly regularly and it's the usual butt loads of pew pew with a butt load of trees. Comet always get the job done for me. Land a Comet (boosted or not, either way your laughing) on their heads and not much will be shooting afterwards. Although this plan falls short when you IF Comet and Miscast your SM into the grave followed by 1's and 2's for the rest of the game while waiting for that damn thing to arrive. Dark times....

Anti shooting tactics? "Colonel their shooting at us!" "Well shoot back."
That sums it up. Iblasters, Scrappies, Leadbelchers, Lore of heavens, Ect.
Great weapons make Great weapons. NEVER YIELD!

To me, there's three categories of shooting.
1) There's the TK, High elf, Wood elf flavor of shooting. Just run up to them and destroy them. Augment your guys or hex them with iceshard. Have slightly larger units so you are less likely to take panic tests. Blow them up with fireballs. 2) Then there's the Dark elf repeater bows. These guys keep me up at nights. 2x, str 4, AP, BS 4. They can really decimate an ogre army. I generally will not run up to them. I will try to stay 24.5 inches away. They are move or shoot. These guys you need to fireball, comet, gorger, scraplauncher. 3) And finally theres the shooting thats crafted against ogres, those lovely skinks. 2x POISONOUS shots. Fortunately they are short ranged. And pretty brittle. A couple kitties can tie these guys up.

A Wood Elf army... claiming champion?!?! This aggression will not stand.
I've never had a problem with WE but then again I field armies with 36+ ogres on the ground at 2500. I'm not sure how many points your talking about here but as stated above, SPEED is our greatest asset here. If you aren't in combat by turn three with these kind of armies - you've lost (generally).
Field more bulls than others since they are cheaper per wound and just as effective (if not more) against weedy elves. Make sure you've got a BSB and Ld 9 SM to counter the panic. If you've got IG or ME - shield them with bulls to block LoS or at least provide cover.
With that many archers - all you have to do is get into combat with a handful of ogres - and it's game. Don't declare charges until you're right up on him or until you can redirect effectively. The last thing you want is a failed charge so be conservative.
Focus casting on extended Trollguts and Toothcracker. Focus on easy VP like characters or small elite units. A Firebelly and or Banner of Eternal Flame would do well to combat Treekin/men if he fields them.
On the meta-game side, make your turns exceptionally fast. You will typically lose on VP if you call it after turn 2 or 3. If you can quicken the pace to get in another 2 turns you should be able to make up lost ground in CC. Make sure he doesn't stall but don't be pushy. Don't argue rules and give him the benefit of the doubt on such calls; just make sure the game keeps moving.
I will say that I do not agree with fighting fire with fire in this case. Our shooting, when compared to others, is less effective. I'm saying not to nix shooting; just don't take more than you normally would. Use your shooting to pick off straggling VPs, cause panic, or force him to be more conservative in his deployment (their usual functions).
Good luck! Again I am amazed. Wood elves NEVER perform well in my area. I love playing WE for an easy win (sorry but true) which means I can take it easy and have a fun game. Please post his list!

Note: I expect the following to be "something we all know and take for granted". That said, we've probably all forgotten to take the odd extra cover, or modifier, etc. in the heat of things.
Something that is purely circumstantial but worth mentioning - use of terrain. I'd argue that if it impedes your marching (See: hauling butt across the table) - it should be avoided unless you *really* need the cover, or you *must* garrison (for example: Watchtower).
Some terrain doesn't inhibit marching and provides some degree of cover. That is something that doesn't require magic and might be "on the way" to combat. Sometimes it is worth only marching 9 if it means you get the benefit of cover. Make certain to know your terrain rules such as when you are 50% obscured/etc, and what provides hard/soft cover.
