5x3 or 3x5 bulls

original thread ↗

Hi, in my current brainstorm for new list I want to fouce on good size of bulls.

I have built and painted 13 with IF and full command. So naturally going to stick the bsb and LV2 butcher with HH. So both the ch are supporting and not really gear for combat. Yeah I know both can hold there own. But however I want to keep them in the supporting role.

So in 5x3 there in back can still hand out attacks but are not in combat them selfs.

3x5 in combat but over all the amount of damage that I can inflict is greatly increased. But the risk of Loseing my bsb is also in increased.

My bulls are supported by my IG which is at 11 w/full command and a SM who's gear is set up to fight.  I plan useing them 4x3 so SM can his full amount of attacks and put hurrtting on some things before the IG attack.

In addition to this blocks I have 4 mf DH ha IF no champ. And a stonehorn.

So I trying to match the synergies of the units.
Going with lv4 maw and lv2 beast.

Just unsure how to lay out the bulls max attacks or steadfast for CR.
IMO, there is no 1 answer to this question. I personally like to run my bulls 3 wide and use that frontage to protect my characters, and get the extra strength on impact hits. I know lots of people like to run 4 wide for the extra hit.

But really, you need to think about being flexible and making it a game-decision. What does the terrain look like? Where do you want to put this unit? Is there room to maneuver a 5 wide unit through the terrain? What army are you fighting And what unit are you likely going to be going head to head with? Don't forget, you can always reform later.

I'm with dirtycrabcakes on this one - formation is something that you should consider mutable, depending on the situation. If you want them to hold up something tough, you run them 3-wide. If you want them to grind something down, 5-wide is the way to go. If you're fighting a small-frontage unit (think 5-wide Swordmasters or something), 4-wide is the right answer. If you're looking for what formation you're going to start in, I'd say 3-wide is what I'd go for - I don't really trust Bulls to run roughshod over that many things.

Yeah that dose make sense, taking in to account the amount of variable factors in any given match.
