Ogre Kingdoms breakdown (subject to personal opinion)
A comprehensive breakdown of the units, heroes equipment and characters in the ogre kingdoms book.
If you like Greasus Goldtooth, look away now.
Units are given a base score from mind mind of tactical usefulness / how many roles they could fulfil.
1 being total garbage and not worth considering (unless you enjoy losing)
10 being an auto include to most armies (obviously there will be exceptions though.
Lords:
Greasus Goldtooth
1. Personally Id never include him. Nearly 550 points for an oversized version of a tyrant who cant move more than 4 a turn?
Unless I wanted to paint up a sculpt of a typical world of warcraft player, Id never field him. T6 and W6 is nice, but Id rather field a stonehorn for less than half his points cost.
Everyone has their price d3 enemy units within 18 get stupidity? No thanks. If theyre within 18 Im about to charge them anyway! And with high re-rollable leadership across the board on most armies, this ability becomes totally ineffective.
Fat mans crown 4+ ward is 45 points in the brb go figure. Or cast trollguts.
Sceptre of the Tits To be fair NICE, S10? Giggidy. But wait he has three attacks
Skrag the Slaughterer.
2. Hmmmm 425 points for a level 4 caster who cant take any other law
And hes not viable unless you take a ridiculous amount of gorgers
No thanks.
However, if you ever fancy fielding 1,000 points of gorgers in 5 units of 2 then go for it o.O
Tyrant.
7. Only gets the 7 because hes the only way we can get Ld 10 (with discipline banner). A tough hard-nut who will obliterate almost anything he comes into contact with!
However, hes competing with the Slaughtermaster, so I feel his viability is diminished due to this.
Slaughtermaster.
10. Oh my yes. Oh god YES!
Two secs I need a moment
Ok, A level 4 with T5 and 5 wounds? Oh god one more moment please.
In competitive games you can really afford to not field one. Take a butcher to pay the Maw tax, and wack a greedy fist on this guy! Whats that? Death snipe an enemy wizard with 2d6 hits? Bye bye wizard levels.
You could also just wack a hellheart / wardsave / armour / crown of command / stylish hat on this guy and hell be nye-on impossible to kill if hes using gut magic!
Oh the possibilities
Heroes.
Golgfag Maneater.
5. Apart from having a silly name, actually not too bad. However, slightly unreliable, you never know how much equipment he has.
Furthermore his maneaters are then stuck with a set of skills which you cant change The tactical advantage of Maneaters is that they can choose their skills at the start of every game Abit of a hinderance.
All in all though, just over 250 points for a strong maneater Debatable.
Bragg the Gutsman.
1. No.
On a serious not though, you want to pay over 200 points for a challenge character?
No.
Bruiser.
9. You need a bsb. Give him the Rune Maw and plonk him in a gutstar, or gear him up for survivability (as if he needs it!)
Job done. Take one :-P
Hunter.
3. Unless youre doing a 3 stonehorn list, dont even try to justify it, youll fail badly. If you are taking 3 stonehorns give him a charmed shield and GO!
Butcher.
8. Great to pay the maw tax, useful as a unit buffer, and if you want to stay stubborn take two with the sig spell.
Firebelly.
9. Awesome, a S4 breath weapon! A fire mage nuclear bomb? Awesome wack him in some leadbelchers to add to not only their firepower but also combat potential.
Core.
Ogre Bulls.
If you dont know why Ive called them bulls then you are a bandwagoner, hop off at any convenient time, but were not slowing the wagon down so remember to tuck your head between your knees when you jump.
8. Great solid core for 30 points! Give them an ironfist, all the time. No seriously, all the time. Get a black marker pen, and go over the additional hand weapons option, forget they have that option. 2 points for a 6++ on a T4 monster? Bargin! If I was a woman Id buy loads of them and keep them under the stairs with all of my other pairs of ogres.
Ironguts.
10. Got a soft spot for these guys, which is ironic because theyre so hard. In 2k battles take 11 and thats your core done. Give them a banner of discipline, always. So useful for 15 points.
Gnoblars.
1. LOL.
Oh wait youre serious?? My bad. No. Not even for ranks, we dont need it. If you want a redirector take a sabre.
Gnoblar trappers.
7. Now this is actually interesting, take 10 of them for 50 points, Ten times, thats your core done. Now put them in long lines infront of each other, statistically youre opponent will be dead by the end of it. Just remember to put 1,000 points of leadbelchers behind them.
Special people.
Leadbelchers.
9. Oh my yes, why wouldnt you include at least 6? Theyre so so brutal.
Even better, we dont misfire anymore pure gold. Gold laced with LSD. Think of it this way, theyre a unit of dwarf thunderers that can turn around and shoot you.
If you dont take them, dont expect to get into close combat, youll be doing the redirection dance all day long.
Maneaters.
8. A few good set ups with these.
- Character bumming sniper and poison with a brace of pistols each BYE
- Warmachine bumming scout, poison and pistols. BEND OVER DWARFO
- General bumming stubborn and anything really. Give the front rank additional hand weapons and the back rank GWs. Oh yes DIRTY.
Sabretusks.
9. Field them in units of 1. No not two, not three, not 5. 1. Theyre redirectors and warmachine hunters, thats it. About 20 points? Yes please! Always take one or two or three, but in units of 1.
Yhetees.
2. Would have been 5 if it was still -1 to hit from their aura. Still, dont underestimate them, they can be used to attract fire because opponants dont normally quite know what they do
Which is nothing.
Gorger.
1. Are you fielding Skrag? No? Good. Dont feel the gorgers either.
Mournfang.
10. Units of 4 please people. Dont waste time trying out units of 2 or 3 theyll die, which means you give up their points, and that makes panda sad
Take 4 with the dragonhide banner, charge them into their biggest filthiest, homotastic horde theyve got As long as that horde is S3 Theyll just kill EVERYTHING! Then theyll continue off the board and go and kill the mums from that horde In horrible ways.
Rare.
Gnoblar scraplauncher.
6. I know right? 6 seems high! But for 130 points its really pretty good! We all moan about it because it competes with the other rares. Well, try two with two ironblasters and a bucketload of leadbelchers, then ask me if it is really that good.
Plus theres an achievement if you can killing blow the enemies general with it.
Ironblaster.
10. S10 moving cannon-chariot?
This thing just proves that Mr Vetock and Mr Johnson were smoking some GOOOOOOOD Stuff when they wrote this book Damn druggies.
Read the rules, I dont need to justify myself on this one. Aim at the biggest hardest thing on the table, point and click.
S10 grapeshot? On stand and shoot? :-0 I think I just got rid of some love-wee.
Giant.
1. Was crap, now even more expensive Dont do it. Its not even funny
Stonehorn.
7. That hurts me to give it a 7, I actually told the wife I was leaving her for this model. Its so beautiful! Unfortunately we have ironblasters, and when its on the board the Cow-of-Love gets shot at by everyone! People are so mean
Thundertusk.
8. Slightly more flexible tactically than the Cow-of-Love, but still not great Useful aura, but again, we have Ironblasters.
And it doesnt do impact hits. Dont ask, I dont know why either.
